Yesterday I cleared the Decks for the Next-Gen

im somewhat preparing for next gen also. Bought a new HDTV, paid my X360 pre-order, in the process of selling off all my games.

Im going to start with a clear slate, no backlog, no more saves to go back to, 100 percent forcus on next gen gaming in november.

The only current gen games on my list are Fable LC, ProEvo 5 and Zelda. Everything else im going to ignore or forget

Damn, I still have all my systems. Which is every damn system out there pretty much, all the way back to intellivision, colecovision, and commodore64 that I got from my parents... I basically just have a storage room that I put them in when I'm not using them. They all come out and get hooked up every now and then for that old school/nostalgia fix I need every now and then. I'll probably sell em all off in one big bundle in like 20-30 years when I completely stop gaming. Or maybe I'll make it one hell of a present to a lucky grandchild or something.

My TV only does PIP via HDMI so I wish Xbox 360 did HDMI. I can play PS3 and watch TV at the same time though.

X360 does do HDMI, MS just isn't releasing a 1st party HDMI cable. Pelican is though if you're into that kind of thing. I hope other 3rd party accesory companies like Monster step up to the HDMI plate too.

I traded in my console hardware and software. No more PS2 or Gamecube. I still have to hang on the the Xbox for work reasons.

I used some of my store credit to pick up my Animal Crossing unit (DS) and grabbed some used copies of Lost in Blue, Nintendogs (for Mrs. Stinkles) as well as a copy of whatever MX game runs in 1080i (it looks sweet and bland).

I redid my cabling. Now my component switch box is almost empty. I wish the 360 had HDMI, then I could reduce the clutter further.

I installed Windows Media Center Edition on my Shuttle PC, hooked it up to a satellite box and networked it.

In November, I will mod my Xbox and dedicate it soley to MAME.

Now, roll on the new shit. The old shit is dead.

Lame. As a collector, I hang on to everything. Oh well, have fun wasting your stuff on those shitty store tradein prices. I made that mistake in the past when I was short on money and I will never make it again.

You know, you don't have to finish games. Hell, I have a bunch of games I haven't opened, and probably won't ever. For a collector just owning them is good enough. I guess I'm in the minority.

You think Monster would miss an opportunity to rape gamers? They will certainly put out an HDMI cable, and it'll cost $100.

I fail to see how missing out on DQ8, SotC, FFXII, KH2, Zelda, etc etc in exchange for launch titles is 'keeping with the times'... unless you are talking about graphics only.

Exactly. The best games of this gen are yet to come.

Well missing out could also mean playing them later on down the road on the new systems using backwards compatibility. You don't always have to play games right when they come out. Maybe his priorities changed. He can always play em later. And just cause he sold the old systems, doesn't mean he can't play older games on the new ones.

I don't understand this gotta play 'em all attitude. No game is a must play experience. They're just something you do with your free time. I've gradually narrowed down the types of games I like to play (a lot) to strategy games (not real time), action/adventure, and racing games. And of those genres I usually just find 2-3 games (or series of games) that fit me best. And of those games the only one I can't skip is Advance Wars. Well, as far as I know.

I'll spend more time with the 3 titles in the Xbox launch library that I want than I have on all the consoles I owned (sold a couple weeks ago) all year. I don't think they'll surpass the time I spent on various Fire Emblems on the GBA this year but that's it.

Traded in my PS2 this afternoon. I'm keeping the Gamecube because the wife likes to play it and the Xbox because I have ten months left on my Xbox Live account and I can't tear myself away from Halo 2's multiplayer.

Using that logic, isn't it smarter to wait a while before you buy a next-gen console?

I've traded in systems in the past and ALWAYS end up re-buying them. I will never trade in a system again, or games for that matter.

That's news to me. I don't think X360 has a digital video output necessary for HDMI cable.

Well, considering what Gamestop gave me and what I could pick one up for on ebay right now, even if I did have to buy it back, I would be in good shape. :)

Well considering all next gen are backwards compatible to some extent, keeping current systems or rebuying them next gen would be just dumb (except for the xbox 1). No reason to keep a ps1 this gen either.

....Except for that fact that your old saves apparently won't work on both Xbox360 and PS3. Unless there's some way to transfer from the PS2 hard drive to the PS3 one.

That certainly would be a bitch for some games. Certainly no reason to keep an old system tho.
