Yooka-Laylee |OT| Reptile Rolling in the 90’s

It's just another example why you shouldn't listen to reviews anymore. Reviewers are just bad at playing games. They want them as easy as possible nowadays.
The only exception is Dark Souls and I really doubt many reviewers finished the Souls games.
I don't want to blame reviewers but I don't understand how can one person have an opinion over all kinds of games. There are great popular games out there that just aren't for me.

I completed the first world!

Kind of bullshit that Kickstarter backers who went for the PC version have to wait until it officially released.

Couldn't they have given out reviewer/ streamer codes for those that backed it?

Yeah that sucks, it's the only game I've backed, and I expected to be able to play it at the same time as console users at least... My friends are already 10 hours in and telling me how they love it -__- I would have had the time to play yesterday, but I won't be able to today, so fuck.

any tips for the boss in the first world? Rolling is so frustrating, lol

edit: Yeah, this is BS. Third phase is impossible, can't even jump over the first tree trunk without getting hit

I haven't done the boss yet, but one general advice for rolling: You need not push the analogstick fully. Use that, then it becomes much easier to control rolling.

Havent been to boss yet but that was a surprising discovery. You can control the pace of rolling as if you were walking.

Banjo Kazooie took me more than 40 to 100% the first time. Yooka could take me more because I tend to walk around places I've visited a lot just to be sure I haven't missed anything.

40 hours? Thats pretty crazy, I think the game is pretty short, the only level it
Took me more than an hour- hour and a half to 100 percent was clik clok woods because some real bs
Jiggies and the platforming once you get higher up the tree

Okay does anyone know how to get to the third world yet? I've spent literally about an hour wandering around every inch of the Hive and can't find any way to move forward.

I've checked out the library, the arcade, the main hub area outside worlds 1 and 2, and found a shortcut between the two and have every move I can purchase at the moment. Am I missing something obvious here? Do I need to progress far enough in World 2 for something to happen?

Played a bit of the Toybox on Steam yesterday! Seems like a nice return of the collect-a-thon platformer genre, which is exactly what I backed it for. Hope the game holds up! Can't wait to try it out tonight!

Talk to Trowser in the library.

I don't think he shows up until you speak to him in world 2.

You should be able to find Trowzer in the library and get a new skill that will allow you to move on.
If he's not there maybe you need to expand the second world and beat the boss first?

I'm upset I haven't received mine yet... I paid extra so that I could get physical and now I'm getting it after most people.

Yikes, just typing that made me realize how awful that sounds. I'm disappointed it's not here yet, but happy to have contributed to such a charming gaming with (generally) positive impressions.

Today plz, though :(

Ah, thank you both! I kept missing him for some reason.

I was a kid and BK, along with OoT were my first 3D exploration games, before that I had only played Goldenye, Mario Kart and Wave Race. But I think it most had to do with the fact that I would boot the game and randomly explore the worlds without the purpose of completing them, just enjoying moving around, jumping on enemies etc... I also remember getting my ass kicked hard at Mad Monsters Mansion the first time I went there. Those were the days...

I had to stop pushing forward on the analogue stick so I could jump higher to clear those logs. Took me like 6 attempts before I learnt that :/

You don't need to jump at all, at least I didn't. Treating the analog stick with care while rolling and it becomes a quite simple boss fight.

I personally found the boss fight quite simple, but the third phase literally has no way to get to him without jumping. There are constant lines of three logs in a row taking up the entire ramp. How did you get past that without jumping?

Loving it so far, and unlocking abilities and tonics as I go is definitely opening it up. Got to tje second world last night- Gloomy Gem Grotto took me waay longer than what I care to admit.

Digging what I've played so far (got a few pagies in the expanded Tribal world). Its delightfully old school - its not perfect, and I can see why some may not like how its pretty much just a bigger and prettier N64 game, but I appreciate it for what it is.

Yet to encounter a character that resonates with as much as the Banjo Kazooie counterparts, though. Maybe Capital B, I dig his design.

Seems to be Banjo-Threeie in all but name. Fun and looks great. Wish you could silence just the gibberish speech sounds during the triggered dialogue that plays outside of direct NPC interactions. That spring sound effect ceaselessly playing for the first world's Dr. Puzz transformation was evil given how much ground you have to cover between those plants. *boing* *boing* *boing*. . .

Xbox One version runs fine outside of a couple spots where the framerate drops a bit for a second or two with fire covering a lot of the screen on one path upward in world one and where the area is damagingly cold in a frosty ice fog in world two. Otherwise, just a bit of old school 3D camera antics in tight spaces and having the perspective forced in a direction in places. Also, someone working on this game is clearly in love with steering heavy ice cubes as both the world two transformation form and the first Rextro game are sensitive analogue control tests. More nitpicks and the camera is a minor burden at times, but the game is excellent so far if you're ready for more Banjo.

I just played 1 hour but the vibe that YL gives to me is superb. Really awesome game and quite beatifull also.

The control is a little awkward in the begining though

Played it for about two hours. First impression is pretty good. Definitely true to the old Rare games and what the kickstarter aimed for.

I can see why reviewers were lukewarm or even negative about it, but it all depends on how much certain elements bother you. Leveldesign seems a bit unfocused but it also is not actively detracting from my experience thus far. The game plays well and the atmosphere is definitely there, with lot's of charming tunes. Sometimes the humor is a bit too much on the nose, but overall I like the characters and their designs as well. Furthermore, the game does not seem to be very easy, based on some quests I have done, which I dig.

I can think of many (major and minor) criticisms, but the way the game as a whole comes together makes it really enjoyable for me and I look forward to playing it more.

Haven't played yet, but I watched the Giant Bomb Quick Look on this game yesterday and they spent like 20 minutes just trying this boss over and over.

The trick is that you jump much higher when you're not moving. Just inch your way up the platform and jump over the logs as they roll at you while NOT moving forward. It becomes really easy after that.

yep, it was very easy once you figure it out. :D

It's kind of hidden and took me a bit too. Bubble into the water in the big filled room(big room leading off of the library with the fish tank in the middle where you learn bubble form) and you will see a grate with a pumpkin that you can walk past and swim up to the level. Easy to miss actually.
