Yooka-Laylee |OT| Reptile Rolling in the 90’s

How do you get to World 3? this shit is starting to piss me off. Also fuck the second worlds boss, I gave up, I couldn't melt the asshole down enough without dying.

Just expanding world 3, I'm still waiting for the game to plunge off a cliff because I'm still really quite enjoying it.
Going back through Tooie and DK64 a few years ago seems to have given me a greater tolerance for some of the jank and rough minigames. The infamous grotto area of the ice world certainly could've used a checkpoint halfway through but I enjoyed the actual obstacle course in that section for what it's worth.

World three is beyond the library, there's an ice switch that opens the door, said door is in that corridor leading to the Rextro arcade and where Trowzer teaches the glide to reach world 2.

As for that boss, the projectiles struggle to hit if you keep moving horizontally, you can also use the moving fan as cover.

You go to the library like Trowzer told you. It's the door with the giant book above it.

The guy complaining about double glazing salesmen was tough...and I watched the GB quick look so I thought I had it easy. Really gets you accustomed to the details of the way he controls while rolling.

I'm trying to figure out how to get to the 2nd world after acquiring about 16 pagies and expanding the fist, but it seems like I need to pay $1.99

While you're floating you can also let go of A and press it again, to continue floating at a lower altitude. Nice with a few techniques you have to discover for yourself.

I couldn't get this to work :( Is it a skill you unlock? If I let go he just drops and doesn't float again when I press it.

Btw if you haven't pressed the d-pad buttons yet, go for it :)

God, I really want to like this game but the controls are not good. The roll is nice for traversing the stage quickly but having to be precise with it is frustrating when you're moving too quickly...

Wow, I never actually got hit more than one time during that boss. It does take WAY too long, though.

You can roll slower and more precisely by not tilting the control stick the full way. Not sure about keyboard, though.

It took me a shockingly long time to remember the attack/stun potential of the sonar blast, all those googly eyed objects that I clumsily tried to purely physically attack to my own detriment...

I don't think so. You will need the float move obviously, but then jump up, keep A pressed until you start floating and then let go and press/hold it again shortly there after.

You get a new skin for Yooka. It
gives him a pair of shorts since people were complaining that he was naked when the game was first revealed.

The skin carries over into new games so you could do a second playthrough with it.

That all?

Was wondering if it'd have something more akin to bonus boss/ending
Ok then

Whats the trick to the yellow gems that are at/below the track in the kartos parts? Trying to do the one in the
casino
and I feel like I need to get them to get the pagie.

Also its bs that you can be hit and lose gems after the finish loop.

You can jump just slightly after the kart leaves the track to get them.

That world 4 boss is probably the hardest boss fight I have ever played in any game ever.

Yea, it was shit. Immediately following the horrific Kartos challenge was even more painful.

Though really, only phase 1 is horrible. The following phases are quite easy, but you don't get much time to practice given how likely low your health is from phase 1(and your nerves are shot with concern over screwing up just to avoid another restart). But definitely a frustrating mess all around.

Just did the grotto and that was it? The only thing where I died quite a bit was the section right after using the green smiley propellor platform. They made a ridge of snow and that kept fucking up my rolling jump onto the ice platform. That was an odd design decision, but the path of the cave itself really isn't that long and if you don't roll full apeed you should be fine for most part.

About three hours in...

I don't know how I feel about this game. Had a pretty fun playthrough today, but it's almost like...work? Like I want to complete it as a classic BK-fan, but I'm not having fun with it really and there are a lot of little annoyances which seem to only increase as the game progresses judging by reactions here. Camera's off, the physics seems strange and untested at parts---like you can jump to places you shouldn't be able to I think, but it's not done like how Mario 64 did it where it felt like an accomplishment rewarding using the controls but rather just poor design---and there are numerous glitches which ruin the polish. Like one time a character gave me a Pagie and the camera was zoomed out with a pole blocking the NPC, just really bothered me.

I will say on the music end they definitely haven't lost their touch, the music isn't super memorable but it totally nails the classic style of N64 Rare platformers, and I don't mind the voices either. Also the dialogue is pretty great and humorous without being too mean-spirited like Nuts-N-Bolts felt at times, and I especially love Rextro. Character designs aren't anything special, probably weaker than BK overall thought that game never really had great designs in the first place imo, and I'm not really interested in seeing an "expanded universe" with such a middling initial entry.

Perhaps my thoughts will change as I progress, but for the moment I want to get back to Persona 5 and put this on the backburner.

Bad. Basically try and memorise the entire fight because you have no time to react.

Honestly, as badly designed as a lot of segments in this game are, I haven't had any major trouble in any of the "trouble spots" a lot of people are getting stuck at. Don't get me wrong, the first two bosses, dark cave in world 2, and Rextro minigames are absolute dog shit from a basic game design perspective, but I've had no real trouble with any of it.

I'm up to the 3rd world and at worst the game is just head-scratch inducing but hardly rage inducing.

For the record I think the same applies to Sonic 06 so maybe I just "get"
platformers more easily than most people, as egotistical as that probably sounds

Hey, quick question guys.

I'm going to pick up this game, but I am torn between the PS4 or PC version. Anyone have any idea which version I should get?

I don't have the best PC, so I have no idea how it would run compared to my Pro.

Specs:
16gb ram
Win 10
AMD Radeon HD 7870
Phenom II X4 980 Black

Is it possible to get 1080/60 on this setup or should I just go PS4 Pro?

Note: specs are to my best memory, since I am on my phone.

I was actually thinking along similar lines myself earlier, well minus Sonic 06, I ain't touching that game with a 50 ft pole.
I haven't felt particularly hindered by the controls thus far.

So has anyone heard Tropic Trials play anywhere in the game? It's one of the best songs on the soundtrack and it's never shown up.

Yea, it was shit. Immediately following the horrific Kartos challenge was even more painful.

Phase 1 is pretty easy once you figure out the gimmick, just jump over the spike balls and shoot the one that's too close to safely jump.

I don't like the layout of the first level in this game. I find myself getting lost way too often and having to go to higher ground to figure out where to go. Even using the main temple where Trowzer's is as a base point doesn't seem to help, when usually in a game like this that would act as the central area.

I don't know if it's just me or Playtonic got a bit sloppy there.

I... I liked it.

It took me two tries to get the hang of it the first time, and one try to beat Rex's hi-score. Really wasn't that bad to me, and I assume it's supposed to reference Rare's Pro-Am?

I thought the big temple worked fine as as compass.

You might get a bit more lost in World 2 (There are caves that connect some areas) but you should be fine from world 3 onwards.

When you can immediately pick out that a Dave Wise tune just dropped in the world 3 boss.

Speaking of that boss, I thought it was a good battle coming from the previous 2 except I could never avoid one particular attack
when the upright tentacle follows your movement, shit hits for two damage and I couldn't seem to out pace it even jump spamming

Bad. Basically try and memorise the entire fight because you have no time to react.

this is actually not true. Though memorisation helps, you see each obstacle in time so you can react, including those where you need to brake or speed up . For those, you need on your first try to hope that it fits, but it does, so that's fine I think. The boss definitely is very tight though and the second phase is quite difficult to do flawlessly.

@Nocturnowl: Run in a circle, when it gets stationary, do a double jump and jump toward the point where it crashed, avoiding the wave by going into its center.

I think the people who hate the Kartos segments because they're too hard will be pleasantly surprised by his challenge in World 5.

The boss definitely is very tight though and the second phase is quite difficult to do flawlessly.

His second phase was the hardest until I realized you can just spam the cannon while he's in front of you. It's not very obvious though since you couldn't do it in the first phase, you expect him to only be vulnerable when he's charging.

Ah yeah it was a skill you unlock to float! I was just doing a double jump before.

Snake guy gives it to you on the way to the second world.

Man, This casino level.

I'm enjoying myself but Rextro's Hurdle Hijinx is giving me fits. I just can't seem to time everything correctly, the course seems to go on forever.

The
Helicopter
is by far the best transformation so far, really enjoying that.

But I need some tips on the slot machine next to Kratos, how the hell do you manage the pattern there?

Other than that, I'm enjoying the game immensely. I think World 3 is my favorite so far.
I have 23/25 Pagies on that level alone.

Started World 3 tonight and got about 10 pagies in it. I will wait to see what the expanded version is like, but so far it is better than World 1 and massively better than World 2. I'm starting to have a lot of fun with it again but I know it will crash down when I get to World 4. Hahaha

Anyways taking a break and going back to Persona 5. I can't binge this game without feeling burnt out. Although props on the World 3 boss being passable since the first two drove me mad.

Am I correct to assume that collecting some quills/pagies in the earlier worlds will require special abilities that I pick up in later worlds? Feels like that's the case, and I don't want to spend any more time on Tribalstack Tropics at the moment if there's no way to get some of these collectables.

Really enjoying my time with the game, BTW. I was worried leading up to release but I ended up playing for three hours straight tonight right from the start. I'll join in the chorus and say that the camera is a pain at times, but it's not nearly as bad as some other older 3D platformers that I went back to years after release (Sonic Adventure 2 in particular, I couldn't play that for more than two hours because of the camera).

Also very pleased with performance. I have an i5-2500k @ 4.0 Ghz and R9 380 2GB and I get pretty much a locked 60 FPS at 1080p on the "Beautiful" preset without any noticeable stutter. For anyone who has played far into the game, is the performance in Tribalstack Tropics indicative of what I can expect in the later worlds, or would you say that they're more demanding?

i don't understand why they had to make so many of the controls janky asf. even the basic chameleon roll is complete shit when compared to something as smooth and accurate as talon trot.

This game got significantly better for me once I unlocked some more mobility abilities and turned off v sync so the game doesn't run like garbage.

They really should give you the flying jump and high jump abilities a lot earlier, especially since Banjo fans are so used to having both moves as core abilities.

I think they intentionally made the roll unwieldy so you don't constantly use it like in Banjo-Kazooie where the Talon Trot is straight up better than walking.

Yeah. They could have given you the high jump by default and made the hover obtained in the first world. Sonar could have been the ability used to get to the second world.

Please explain (streaming method).

Need an Nvidia gpu, uses geforce experience nothing else needed on PC (apart from pairing with geforce experience, and finding your local IP address to connect to).

Program is moonlight (on ios and android store (free) works with chrome via extension (webgl) and java too for laptops etc. There's even a Vita homebrew app, which is how I played Snake Pass. Though the latency is even better on my phone.

More details about what I've done to set it up and how it works here and here.

Very low latency even on 2.4GHz router (check links above). My £40 5Ghz router should come soon hopefully, though I've not had issues at 2.4, I just want it as good as it can be.

I've been playing basically everything this way since I got it set up last week. PC library and graphics on a handheld (with nice phone screen) to play games in bed, for free. Very nice mount for DS4 too. I highly recommend it. Grab a cheap micro usb to micro usb cable too to be safe.

bonus once you've set it up, retroarch is an allinone emulator for free (at least on android), even has n64, psp and ps1 support. I was playing Banjo Kazooie on it waiting for this to release (and wipeout 2097).

Yooka Laylee looks incredible on it, though I'm on max settings on PC and 1440p, streaming at 60fps with unnoticeable latency to a samsung 6 edge+.

I'm going to make a thread after I get my 5GHz router.

The Hivory Hub on Youtube just helped me solve my slot machine problem.

Recommend them for anyone needing some pointers without ruining the challenge for you.

I kinda like the game so far, but the it does have some problems that are hurting my enjoyment so far:

1) Camera is bad, really bad. It's too close, it reacts to every single movement of the characters and it tries to "help" you all the time, but ends up having exact the opposite effect.

2) Characters movements are very clunky, it doesn't feel good doing any movement in particular.

3) The game some times looks gorgeous, but everything is so static, lifeless.

I'm gonna keep playing, but so far i'm not feeling it. I really wanted it to be great, unfortunatelly, it isn't the case...what a shame, i absolutelly loved B-K and B-T.
