Yoshi's Touch & Go verdict?

GDJustin

stuck my tongue deep inside Atlus' cookies
I read every word of the topics that sprung up around the game's release, and I was really glad to see the almost unanimously positive impressions, but because of how new the game was they couldn't address my biggest concern: depth. That was something only time could tell. Its been a while, so new thread, ho!

For those of you who picked up the game, are you still playing it? Does it feel more like a minigame (albeit a really good one) stretched out to be released on its own? Is it worth the $35 (sigh... what happened to the $30 pricetag?) its going to sell for next month?

Basically, I fully understand that the game itself is great fun. No one needs to sell me on that. I'm just curious as to how much meat you feel the package has, after spending more time with it. Even if you say "not much" I still might end up picking it up...

Is it really $35? I thought all first-party games were $29.99...

I held off on importing. Mostly because I didn't want to spend $50 just to have it a month earlier... Anyway, I'm glad it's out, regardless of its depth or lack thereof -- at E3, I was literally praying that Balloon Trip would become a retail product just so I could play that part again and again...

Touched's MSRP is $35 as well. There were some very isolated reports of it being sold for $30 (Sears, I believe), but virtually everywhere has it for $35. Gamestop and EB have Yoshi for $35 as well, so I'm assuming thats Nintendo's position for their bigger DS releases. Sucks, too. A $30 pricetag would create more separation between DS and PSP pricetags, which Nintendo could really use.

Offtopic, but I'm surprised Wario Ware Twisted is $29.99. I thought the Gyro-ma-thing would increase the price by at least $5

It's my favourite game on the DS and by quite a margin. I'm still putting in about an hour a day, occassionally I'd go 2 days without playing but then I just pick it up for a quick blast and before you know it 2 hours have passed. Huge amount of depth to it as well.

At first, surviving is an achievment but then you'll want to better your score. You'll work out ways of getting higher combos and soon the game will just click. The game also challenges you when you improve. I'm up to over 10,000m on Endless and as a "reward" the baby Mario stage has adapted and made itself much more taxing. I'm lucky to score 140, where before it was up to 180.

Anyone else still playing?
I'm up to the following.
Score Attack: 643 (185 Baby Mario)
Endless: 10,025m (Orange Yoshi)

I wonder if retailers themselves are marking up the games...

Toys 'R Us, EB, and Gamestop have a knack for doing that, and games that would normall be $29.99 elsewhere are $5 more there sometimes...

that wouldn't explain Best Buy, Target, or Wal-Mart though...

funny thing is I've looked for the game at Best Buy and Target but they didn't have it, I don't think they ever got any... that or they have lazy employees...

Thanks for the impressions Chibbi. Any other Yoshi owners have anything to add, in regards to the depth of the package?

Yea, best game on the DS by far.

Really good in short <30 min bursts for trains/buses. Though I think I would get tired of it if I played it at home for a week. It's a nice game for travel that's always fun and has that 'gotta beat my score' addiction to it. Anyone with a DS should buy it.

Despite that $35 US price tag though, Touched! is only listing at $40 Canadian, so it might be markup from other retailers, who knows.
