So a few days ago I started reading Fire & Blood.

EVERY page was at least 5 new characters being introduced, if even for just that one time. This knight went here, that one over there, there was something happening over there, etc.

There is no way GRRM is not totally confused at this point where all the characters are and what each of them is doing.

You are not getting a new book.

At this point he will have to die for the book to advance honestly. The world he created is good enough. We got many books, 2 HBO series, and probably good games like Hogwards legacy, Batman and Spiderman will happen sooner or later. Winds of Winter is like Half life 3. it was fated not to happen. Better to think like that and maybe be pleasantly surprised in the future in my opinion.

It'll be done when it's done. I don't see the point speculating on Martin's mindset about it when we don't really have anything to go on other than him saying he's working on it. It's a big complicated book. Up to this point there have been a bunch of distinct plot threads and this is the part where they all start tying together. We know from what has said before about the Meereenese Knot that figuring out how to integrate character threads together was the trickiest part of ADWD for him. He's also just a slow writer, as he himself admits. I'd rather we get the version he's happy with, even if it takes ages, rather than one he rushes just because some people want their next fix now.

the set of books sat in my cupboard for a good 8-9 years without being touched before i finally got rid of them. some poor sucker out there can read them and be disappointed. i got about 2 books in and gave up. not that i thought they were bad.... i just didn't want to invest my time into them knowing they'd never be finished.

I have considered getting rid of my Kingkiller Chronicles books and the Song and Ice books. But I didn't get the courage to do it.

I only read GoT and about half of Clash. i did think about going back to read them all and just come up with my own head canon of what happened but i still didn't want to spend the time reading them all. I got other shit to read. Maybe if I ever find myself stuck on what to read I'll buy them again. I actually also, stupidly, bought them all on Kindle but was pissed off at myself and permanently deleted them lol.

Like I said in an above post he says he's working on it so it is what it is and that's all we have to go on. There's no point speculating wildly, especially about his mortality. Maybe he decides he no longer wants to write it, which is fair enough that's his choice he doesn't owe anyone anything. But he hasn't said anything to indicate that so I'll just wait for it to come out. Plenty of other stuff to read in the meantime.

The indications are that timeline somebody posted above and the fact that he's done a billion other things since putting out the last book. He's way more into other projects.

That's fair, I get that you didn't mean to be that harsh. But it is indicative of the waves of comments he receives. The guy has had to close comment sections on his blogs because he couldn't even talk about having watched a football game without a bunch of people saying he's a lazy fat fuck who is going to die soon. All that over a book's release being delayed and coming from his supposed fans. Just seems to me like a massive overreaction.

He's said he's working on it and that although working on different projects is part of how he does things ASOIAF is his main focus. People can speculate if they like but it's not like there's anything definitive to prove otherwise From what he has said before his process involves a lot of rewriting and writing up multiple versions of a section to see which suits best. It's a long process and one that can result in taking one step forward but two steps back but that's just how he works at this point. The story has gotten more complex and is therefore taking longer to produce. It'd be great if TWOW had been released already and I get people being frustrated that it's taken so long but it's just the nature of these things sometimes. Not everything is on a completely fixed timetable.

OMG, yes! I loved the first two books, it does seem GRRM rubbed off on him. I almost feel like I should wait until a series has completed before getting invested in it so I'm not disappointed when it doesn't get completed. The Netflix cycle, but with books.

How do you figure he sold half a saga? The first book came out 15 years before the show. Nobody cared until HBO made Game of Thrones around the time of the sixth book. He made his money from the TV show and those fans got an ending.

They are all great. The show took liberties from the books, but the product from all sides is better for Fire and Blood existing. It did so much to grow the setting to Harry Potter levels and damn near Tolkien.


I say that as a lifelong fan of the series.
