You can actually share Xbox One and PS4 games with a friend?

On PS4 the non-primary console must be signed into the game owners account to play. This is different than how PS3 work.

Yup, so pretty much your "primary console" is actually your friends console if you are trying to share games and PS+. I guess the trade off then is either "Do I want the licences on my account?" versus "Do I want to be limited to just my PSN account on my console?"

The PS3 was much more relaxed given you can make any 2 (originally 5) PS3's active for all your licenses. Also allowed for a trick I'm sure many did which is create a dummy PSN account to share between you and a friend and buy games on that, so no one's account info needs to be shared. And that could essentially be done for every buddy you wanted to share stuff with. But that is no longer possible with the PS4's approach.

It's the same on the PS3, you could share with up to 5 people, then they reduced it to 2.

So if I buy a digital PS4 game I can let my little cousin download it from my account and play it on his own account, without setting his PS4 as my main console?

The kid is only 14 years old, his parents are broke and he is a sweet kid. I used to let him download all my PS3 games and gave him most of my disc based games. I gave him his PS4 too but I thought he couldn't download games from my account anymore.

Yeah, it's called lending your game disc.

This doesn't sound like sharing. Sounds like trying to do a workaround by having to make someone else's console set as your home console.

You're sensitive as fuck bro. Please post a link to the article stating they don't care who you share with.

I thought it was common knowledge that Microsoft love dropping the banhammer. Many people have gotten system bans on the Xbox 360 by doing the gamesharing of signing into a friends account. Downloading the game, then said friend goes into download history and redownloads the game. I'm sorry that you've never seen any of these posts but they do exist.

Major Nelson was doing a twitch stream and a user asked if it was ok to do the primary system swap to share with a friend and his statement was that that was not how they intend the feature to be used and he does not recommend it. But don't mind me. I'm just spreading false rumors.

Nice attitude 'bro', you sure sound tough.

On PS3, I was able to let my brother sign in as me, download the games I had paid for, then sign back in as himself and play. That way he could get trophies.

Can this be done on PS4 or does he need to remain signed in as me?

That is completely different. I share games digitally with my brother. It is a built-in system feature on Xbox One. When you buy a digital title is tied to your account and your Home Xbox.

A group of 5 of us only had to buy each game once for most of the ps3s life. My account has all the rock band dlc. Pretty happy with how that all went down.

Fuck ≠ tough.

NeoGAF often requires you to be accountable. So, in your post about MS being ban-happy for game sharing and Sony isn't, people are going to expect links. Just saying you heard Major Nelson say it in a podcast isn't going to cut it.

Also, using foul language is allowed, as is using the word "Bro" and even a Gears avatar is OK. But when you put all 3 together with a "junior member" moniker under your name, it really lends to the stereotype that most on this site are trying to avoid. That being: "Dudebro".

Not an attack, just an observation and friendly advice.

You set your xbox or PlayStation as your FRIENDS home console. They set theirs as YOUR home console.

Split the cost of digital games, both can play online at once.
