You can only have four items on a deserted island.

What would you choose and why?

I think I'd want the:

  • Knife
  • Tarp: Collect rain water, turn into a shelter, catch food you drop from a tree, use to haul stuff, etc
  • First aid kit: Lots of little nifty tools in these, and it's important not to die before being rescued. Plus, the thing's a nice watertight container to store stuff in!
  • Water filter or pot: I'm torn here. The pot is more versatile, but the water filter would do an easier, more efficient job of cleaning water.

Questions:
Does the water purifier have desalination capabilites?
How big is the island?
Is there a river?
What sort of wildlife is there?
Are the spiders and creepy crawlies big?
How long will I be there?

Initial answers:
Knife
Tent, you can cut the bottom out and its basically a tarp but you will still have a ready made shelter
Water purifier
Pot

My answers may change depending on the outcome or my questions.

This also assumes that the consumable items aren't limitless.

hunting rifle: deal with long range shit

fishing rod: catch food

knife: food prep, firewood prep, crafting, and a million other uses

water purifier: covenient access to clean drinkable h2o

Knife - For cutting up food/vines for stringing wood
Saw - For building rafts/shelter out of wood
Pot - Collect rain water
Hammock - May as well be comfy

Knife, Water purifier, First aid kit, Hiking boots

Picking something like a rifle seems pointless imo, because you'll run out of bullets eventually and it's going to become a useless item. At least with a first aid kit you can leave it for when you're sick or heavily injured.

Tarp - Long term - Would be excellent to collect rainwater, however it is unknown what the frequency of rain will be.
Sunscreen - Consumable - Will run out eventually, you can avoid the heat by going under the shade or cover.
Toilet paper - Consumable
Pot - Long Term - Good for storing food or water or other ingredients collected around the island.
iPod - Consumable - Battery will eventually deplete and become useless, used to keep one sane for a brief time reminding of time before being stuck on an island.
Hiking Boots - LongTerm, would help climbing rocky terrain, depends if you already have shoes or feet protection of some kind. Depends if there is a high % of terrain.
Hand saw - Long term, though the edges will eventually erode, excellent for cutting trees and vines, almost a necessity for heavy-duty work.
Flare gun - Excellent in capturing attention, limited ammunition, excellent if passer by ship is near.
Inflatable Raft - Excellent for traversing the sea, but not reliable as it can puncture.
Flashlight - Consumable, battery will eventually deplete, easy way to lighten your way, long term on the island will make this useless.
Insect repellant - Consumable, will eventually run out if used frequently. Depends if there are annoying pests on the island, highly unlikely as mosquitos don't go near water that is often disturbed.
Hammock- long term - great for getting rest, but not ideal ergonomically, requires initial setup but beats sleeping on the ground.
Compass - Great for navigational use, especially when one is at sea, small, and can be lost unless tied. Susceptible to be broken.
Mirror - Excellent for personal hygiene and self-care. Can be used to reflect light. Susceptible to being broken.
Vitamins - Consumable - Good for temporary nutrition, but your body is able to create it own nutrients, depends on initial health before entering the island.
Water purifier - long-term - dependent if it can filter the saline. An alternate is Tarp for collecting rain water, but dependent on rain frequency.
Fishing Rod - Good for catching fish, however susceptible to damage and replacement of parts, can be substituted by making your own.
Rope - useful, has stronger durability, can use vines as substitute however.
5 ounces of weed - useless.
First Aid Kit - Consumable, will eventually run out if used frequently. But comes equipped with permanent tools like tweezers. Disinfectants are also useful.
Tent - Long Term, excellent for initial sleeping, reliable for getting reliable sleep without the pestering insects. Has higher levels of comfort.
Knife - Almost a necessity, portable for quick cuts, will eventually dull, however.
Matches - Great if waterproof, excellent for creating initial fire without a lot of setup.
Volleyball - useless, only for short term entertainment, great if you need to make an invisible friend.

If I had to select.
1. Saw -used for cutting trees and vines, the substitute would be sharpened rocks, but it would be more time-consuming. I can build faster with a saw.
2. Tent - can be used to get sleep, rest is important, can be modified into tarp to collect rain-water but not have the large capacity to collect.
3. Flaregun - can be used to get help, probability of unknown passerby ship.
4. First Aid Kit - will need the permanent use of tweezers and small micro tools.

I can replace the flare gun as I can create fire and burn the forest for a smoke signal, however it will also deplete the island's resources, depending on the island.
Would replace the flare gun with either Pot, knife, or Tarp.

This reminds me of Cast Away and Lost in Blue. For those ecchi then I recommend Are You Lost?

Knife is the ultimate survival tool. Maybe the saw for cutting down trees and stuff for shelter.

Pot would be great for boiling and collecting water. Water purifier bottle thing could probably replace this. Only difficult part would be starting a fire without matches.

Hiking shoes so your feet don’t get torn up. We aren’t built like cavemen, we’re soft.

First aid kit seems like the most bang for your buck, you get a bunch of useful little items.

Funniest item on the list :

5 ounces of weed - lmao completely useless aside from making your time less boring, and you’d run out after a couple months, maybe longer, depending on your tolerance.

Most useless item on this list:

iPod. Not only is it outdated technology, but the battery would die after like 24 hours and it would then be shiny unusable junk.

Knife seems an obvious choice, a ubiquitously useful tool. Will be eventually damaged by wear, however can be sharpened with relative ease.
Hand saw, assuming any trees are present, allows for manufacturing of tools and shelter, even if eventual wear will render it less useful.
First Aid Kit, although expendable, can provide extensive utility depending on how well it is stocked. Besides the obvious uses for bandages, disinfectants, and band-aids, a first aid kit may also come with a tourniquet to stop bleeding, which can be repurposed into other tools, cotton swabs can be turned into firestarters (such as fire rolls), and bandages can become a source of relatively sturdy and easy to procure thread.

I'm uncertain of the fourth item. A tarp or tent would provide both shelter and some great utility, but a pot would allow to boil water easily, and cook various things.

I might lean towards the pot. If it's a decently sized one, with a lid and carry handle, it can be used to both transport water, and make gathering various small forageables easier.

Knife - the most important survival tool in the list. Easily outperforms a saw in a survival situation in most cases. Whether it is preparing food and supplies or defense from critters, it would be the first thing I took.
Pot - storage, cooking, sanitizing drinking water. Food and water are the most important needs you have and this pot aides greatly with both
Tarp - the third survival need is shelter, a tarp serves keep you off the ground or shelter you from the elements
Rope - nearly as versatile as the knife. It can be use in shelter, setting snares or traps for food, or any number of other uses

Unless you somehow know how long you’ll be stranded, any consumable item is absolutely worthless beyond the first day. Further, certain items on the list may even cause more harm than good. You want versatility and durability above all in the situation.

Tent - to stay dry
Weed - to get high, duh
Matches - for the weed
Rifle - to off myself after a few days when I got bored of it all

Without knowing anything about the island

Matches
Knife
Water Purifier
5oz of Weed.

^^^ With the above I believe I could survive 5months and make all other tools I need to survive.

I was considering the raft to get out and the rifle as a paddle/flare but food would be a problem and sea storms wouldn’t be much fun either.

Toilet paper seems like the most useless to me. Plenty of ways to wipe my ass on an island. Why wipe in the first place? May as well take advantage of the situation and live like an animal. First thing I'd do is piss all over myself and roll in the sand. Then it's time to get to work.

Half that shit is not going to last a week in the outdoors, hell not even a day for the battery powered stuff

The pot is the only must-have on that list for me. You can easily make low-tech versions of practically everything else on that list but making a pot you can cook in reliably is tough.

I assume the suicide loadout is:

Rope to hang yourself.
iPod to listen to some music before you die.
Weed to get high
Knife, to use in case the rope doesn't kill you.

I’d want the 5 oz of weed but what am I going to do if being stranded on this deserted island extends beyond say 36-48 hours?

I'd probably have the knife, saw, mirror and pot.

I'd pick a mirror for starting fires since the matches will run out. Then use the knife and saw to make numerous other items already on the list, assuming there are trees on the island.

- saw
- tent
- pot
- first aid kit

honourable mention: a flashlight if it’s one that doesn’t use batteries. The ones that supposedly last forever by shaking it.

Handsaw, mirror, pot, and flaregun I guess.
  • Handsaw for building civilization from scratch. Assuming there are trees. Leaves can substitute a tarp.
  • Mirror has two possible uses in daytime: infinite use fire starter or flashing signals at ships (depending what kind of mirrror).
  • Pot for boiling water and cooking, also infinite use. Water vapor condensate is safe to drink.
  • Flare gun for signalling ships at night. Assuming multiple uses.
Spearfishing and patience solves the food problem.

edit: A knife would be nice to have but you can break the saw easily into multiple blades if needed.... Sawing is not energy efficient with a knife, you'd spend all day felling a tree.

Tent - shelter and could probably use the material for other stuff as well

Water purifier - need water

Mirror I guess? Can't you use mirrors to start fires? Matches would run out but idk how easy it actually is to use a mirror to start a fire

Flare gun - id want one handy in case I saw a plane or a ship

I'd probably be dead in 2 days tops.

1. A knife - this is pretty essential for most things.
2. A tent - some protection from rain and bugs etc is critical for me
3. Matches - rubbing sticks to make fire or finding flint is not easy and fire could be critical to staying alive depending on many things
4. 5 ounces of weed (as long as it was weed with seeds so I could plant and grow more. If no seeds then option 5) - this would make the time go by much easier
5. Fishing rod - an island this makes getting food a lot easier
