Psychonauts = already forgottten

Killer 7 will be remembered at least for being the most artistic game this gen

Psychonauts is according to most sources, an excellent game.

Killer 7 is, according to most sources, a piece of crap. (or not a game at all)

Go away.

They are both already forgotten.

People who have followed the PC adventure genre will always remember Tim Schafer's games. And to those people at least, this game will be considered another game from that same brilliant mind.

If hardly anyone buys it, well that's just to be expected. I bought it, and I'm glad I did.

It is really sad that the adventure scene died so suddenly following the release of arguably his best work in Grim Fandango.

Guess it just goes to show that not all PC developers can move to consoles and expect to hit gold.

With its mediocrity, there's no way it'll surpass the high praise Rez and ICO have gotten for artistry.

It won't surpass the high praise Psychonauts has gotten for its artistry, either. I just don't see the game being very good. I also think its art style is overdone, to the point at which it just paints the screen with inconsistency. The characters are also a sort of Viewtiful Joe 2 level of annoying, although at least that game looks good to me.

I'll get it if it has a PAL PS2 release. I may even import the US one, unlikely though. If it doesn't get a PAL PS2 release, well I guess that's their problem.

"The Nintendo DS' Japanese sales? Man, it's depressing to think that there's folks out there who hate gaming enough to buy one."
they do it as a personal slight to you.

No one here cared, and it was all about the PSP. Then Japanese heard your bleating about the DS and decided they'd personally fuck you over.

Every DS bought is another tear you shed - the plan is to make you cry all the water out of your body, until you pass over into the "other world"

It's sad that I don't think a single copy sold at our store. We got T-shirts to give out with the games (Same for Advent Rising, which also hasn't sold a single one, but that's totally different) and well, we haven't unloaded a single one to a customer.

Sad because it looks like a fun game.

Alien Hominid sells because of the bargain price and because a lot of Newgrounds fans own the GameCube and want to support the site because Tom Fulp kicks ass and his games kick ass. I heard otherwise, about Tom not paying his brother for working on the site while he pulled in cash, but I expect that's changed now.

Now we just need a DS version of Disorderly. My god, that would rock.

Psychonauts tried too hard to be wacky. I like my craziness to flow together nicely, like the Parodius series (Konami, bring it back).

Wario Ware sucks. I never understood the appeal of the series.

I agree with Drinky (a first? :o) the game did suck. Truth hurts. Sales kinda show it.

Because we all know sales = quality.

Good thing Metal Gear Solid 3 is a huge blockbuster. Or else it would suck.

I played it and it seemed to be good at what it did (a platformer with smooth control), but considering I don't care for 3D platformers and the whole "style" didn't do much for me... Still, it's rather sad whenever a more indie company can't chart, even with a rather well-reviewed game (most Psychonauts games I've seen scored in the 8 or 9 range). I hear the guy is responsible for some excellent adventure games, so hopefully his company will still continue making games, something maybe a bit more appealing to me than Psychonauts was.

Psychonauts is just like 95% of all new IP's this gen. Flops. The trends are against new IP's. Now for the most part the new IP's that have been succesful are the ones funded by the console manufacturers themselves. I can't think of any new IP that was wildly succesful outside of Splinter Cell that wasn't a 1st or 2nd party game this gen in North America. I know I'm forgetting some games, but it couldn't be more than a handful.

I've said it before, and I'm hoping I'm wrong... but I'm doubtful that Double Fine will even survive the year.
It's sad that Psychonauts isn't selling as well as it should, but I'm not so sure about your prediction. DF must have already been paid by milestone by Microsoft and probably Majesco, or they'd been gone a long time ago.

BTW, Double Fine are hiring for many different positions and are already at 50+ employees. (Not always a solid indicator, as some companies post vacancies just to give a positive impression, but whatever.)

Parodius' humor is better than Psychonauts? You've got to be shitting me.

The thing that kills be about Psychonauts' poor sales around here though is that the same people that are doing a little happy dance about it bombing are usually the same whiny bastards that complain that there are no more originality in games today or that western developers are some how creatively bankrupt. So here's a game that goes against that line of thought while bursting at the seems with original ideas, personality, and incredibly fun gameplay and these dorks are happy that many are ignoring it. I think some of these same folks are pissed that it didn't get ported to the Gamecube and maybe that's why they want to see it fail. Honestly I wish Majesco did make a Gamecube verison just to shut you fucking people up and we could discuss this game honestly without all this system bias bullshit.

But I expected all this to happen. Psychonauts was never going to sell very well. In the end, Psychonauts will end up being one of those brilliant but criminally overlooked games.

Yeah, really... I never really understood why people on here love to see the smaller companies fail and go bankrupt for silly reasons (like they won't publish on the Gamecube). I'm mostly a fan of Japanese games but there's the occasional indie Western developer that makes damn good games, free from focus group ideas, mainstream trends, or licenses - Orbital Media, DoubleFine, Bioware, etc. If the style doesn't appeal to you, it's simple... don't play it. Why do some people on here force themselves to play every high ranked game even if the genre/art style/etc doesn't appeal to them?

And Parodius's humor is fairly clever if you play a lot of Konami games...

I'm not saying that Parodius wasn't clever but Psychonauts is actually laugh out loud funny. I honestly can't remember the last time I played a game that made me do that.

Exactly what humor in Psychonauts made you laugh out loud?

Jokes aren't very funny if they have to be repeated to a critic.

With that said, some of my favorites:

ANYTHING in the Milkman Conspiracy Level.

"See you in Hell!", remarks Raz after he barbecues a squirrel.

The voice of the Lungfish.

The residents of Lungfishopolis and their comments.

The clairvoyance ability and the results it produces.

Just general character banter.

The game is funny.

Is this in response to my message or something?

Not everything's about you. As for your response, I didn't find any of those thing partiulcarly funny. A few things in the game made me smile, but nothing more.

I hated psychonauts when I first played the demo but I picked it up for cheap and I am now loving it. I havnt enjoyed a platformer this much since Conker BFD.
