Or are Libertarians just a bunch of arm-chair, self proclaimed "intellectuals" who are afraid of being in any real position of power since it would allow them to put their ideas into action and watch them fall apart and fail miserably?

That would explain the meager Libertarian representation in high government offices and the joke characters that ran for president under the Libertarian label this past cycle.
