There's a whole bunch of 2024 movies I still have to catch up on especially non-USA stuff as it is always harder to get even outside the USA.

Also some movies are listed as 2023 releases but they were released in 2024 as far as I know.

Edit: Godzilla Minus One was indeed released in December 2023

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.

Didn't count Zone of Interest since it's a 2023 movie.

It was in Cannes and some festivals in 2023 but actual release was January 5, 2024.

I think these late releases should count anyways, they'll never make it to the lists of their actual release year anyways.

These are just off the top of my head so there's probably stuff I'm forgetting. Also these aren't ranked, just in alphabetical order

I've still got a bunch of stuff to see like The Brutalist, Didi, Sing Sing, All We Imagine As Light, A Complete Unknown, Perfect Days, A Different Man, Flow, A Real Pain, Caught By The Tides, Kneecap, The Seed of the Sacred Fig and Hundreds of Beavers. So that might change after I've seen those.

Now i think about it 2024 was a shit year but to be fair I still have a few movies I want to watch.

So i guess Dune part 2, Heretic, The substance, His three daughters, Poor things, Sometimes I think about dying isn't technically a 2024 movie but i couldn't legally watch it here until this year so I'm counting it. I really enjoyed it. Furiosa wasn't bad I suppose. Alien Romulus i enjoyed but was a bit stupid at times.

still to see Nosferatu. and going to watch The Outrun

AJUMP23

Parody of actual AJUMP23
I don't know what all came out in 24. But here are some films I enjoyed. Most of which I do not want to watch more than once.

In no ranking order
Godzilla minus 1
Dune 2
the Substance
2024 movies
Best Christmas Pageant ever
Superman the Reeve Story
Alien Romulus
Sonic 3
LOTR War of the Rohirim

Alien Romulus was fine
Godzlila Minus 1 - a must see for fans of Japan
Dune 2 - the best of 2024
UPDATE:
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga - a very well made movie
Deadpool & Wolverine - fun to watch. To my knowledge quite a bit of trash joking about Jackman is improvisation by Reynolds

PS
Regarding "The Substance" I wonder how people who have seen it actually rate it. The comments that I'm reading are rather mixed, but rating on IMDB rather high (7.4)

Resident Crybaby
It was actually a pretty great year of films IMO.

My standouts:

  • Alien Romulus
  • Speak No Evil
  • Longlegs
  • Civil War
  • Dune Part II
  • Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes
  • Furiosa
  • Inside Out 2
  • Smile 2
  • The Fall Guy
  • The Last Stop in Yuma County

I found a few films that were hyped up to be disappointing, though. The Substance, Monkey Man, and Abigail were all pretty "meh" for me.

Made a crappy phPBB forum once ... once.
If you only watched one movie last year you could do a lot worse.
We used to be able to get a cinema pass from work as a benefit kind of thing but they scrapped it so hardly go to the cinema anymore.

I take it we're not classing the crap we watch on Sky Movies as part of this?

Just what released in 2024, could be straight to dvd also as it was one of your favourites I think that's what the OP was asking.

Oh yeah.
Late Night WIth the Devil is a good one, but it gets a little too experimental in it's ending.
Really enjoyed that one, I liked the ending as well, although I can see why others didn't. Same with The Substance.

Dune Part Two obviously. Liked Alien Romulus and Furiosa. Loved Godzilla Minus One. Hated Roadhouse.

Flashless at the Golden Globes
Dune
Furiosa
Civil war

In that order. The rest i didn’t even bother going to watch. Weak year for movies and games.

Gladiator was ok too but i wouldn’t put It on a top ten list. Not even going to bring up TV which was trash this year outside of persumed innocent.

I will give fall guys a watch. I thought it looked mid with a lame premise.

Fall guy? I thought it was terrible.

Did you not watch Shogun? That was a decent watch TV wise.

1. Horizon: An American Saga - Chapter 1

The rest of my top 10 go like this:

4. Dune: Part 2
5. Civil War
6. The Beekeeper
7. Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga
8. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice
9. Gladiator II
10. Alien Romulus

I admit, I missed a good deal more this year, due to some personal issues this year I’ve felt less motivated to go the cinema by myself but I’m doing better now and hope to catch up with the films I missed and check out more this new year.

I kind of felt that Deadpool was kind of a jackass in Deadpool and Wolverine.

He totally gets Nice Deadpool killed to take his guns.

I mean, in Deadpool 1 he must have gotten some innocent civilians killed when he attacked the vehicles of Francis’ men on the highway. In Deadpool 2, he ignores everyone’s warnings about the wind advisory and thus is responsible for the deaths of most of X-Force (yes, he brought them back, we know he saved Peter and Shatterstar so he must have saved everyone, but he didn’t know when they were on the plane that he’d get access to Cable’s time travel device later on).

Deadpool has never been exactly the nicest guy.

Also, he didn’t know Nicepool couldn’t regenerate. Wade then proceeding to unnecessarily use Nicepool as a shield was probably him thinking, “well, you’re not going to make it anyway, might as well speed up your dying process”.

He should have known Nicepool could not regenerate because his skin was not all messed up. He was not in the accident. But, I will give him a pass.

Yep I saw that in theaters since I wanted to pass the time for New Years Eve. Even the movie is great, I'm not going back to the theater again. 40 to 50 minutes of previews plus a bad crowd is what once again turned me off 😑
Yeah I think BladeRunner 2049 was the last time I went to the movies. If I do go it tends to be a week day afternoon then there nobody else around. I had planned on seeing Nosferatu at the new Imax down the road from me but got called back to work.

Apart from the experience did you like the film?

I envy you all those who've watched Nosferatu.

It's gonna be in the cinemas here at Feb 25.

This thread reminded me that these days I usually don't watch new movies, definitely prefer to go back to older stuff.

Godzilla Minus One had its problems with the pacing and stuff, but it's the best Godzilla movie in a long time. The First Omen was also a surprisingly good prequel.

Longlegs was probably the biggest disappointment and just another reminder not to get hyped for any new movies.

Loved the Omen but was super disappointed in the last scene. They should have left it after the fire.

Great movie aside from that though.

Naomi Scott was excellent in Smile 2
Props to Mohammad Rasoulof, director of The Seed of the Sacred Fig. Critic of Iran's repressive rule, human rights violations. Filmed this in secret then fled the country before being arrested for propaganda for previous works.
Monkey Man is directorial debut of Dav Patel, the guy from Slumdog Millionaire. Excellent fight sequences combined with Indian mythology
Sean Baker sure loves his sex workers. Anora is if Richard Gere from Pretty Woman was replaced by a childish rich Russian kid. Excellent film without the tiring Hollywood happily ever after
