Youtube joins the online censorship fray: it will use AI to monitor user behavior to determine if user is under or over 18 years old

If the AI flags you as underage, all you have to do is give Youtube your personal identification. Just send them a copy of your ID or a credit card. What harm can it do?

In truth we all deserve this!!! 10 years ago instead of telling companies to fuck off when they got greedy we instead rewarded them by buying into their products and subscriptions!

Not suprising at all, they prepared it for quite a while. They tried to fuck up internet few times (every few years) now and looks like they finally succeeded...

Do people really think these age protection laws are forged in deepest secret by hidden cabals and then implemented in tandem all across the western world?

Various countries (EU, UK, Australia, various US states) have been working on these laws for many years now and the big social media platforms are well aware of them. They're being threatened with huge fines if they breach these laws so they'll be sure to implement them in time.

It's just that the general population was unaware of what was happening - as usual. There have been news reports on these developments but people don't pay enough attention to these warning signs until it's too late to do anything about them. Of course, that's exactly how those in power want it to be.
 
I hear now is time to subscribe to a bunch of bingo and knitting channels, maybe even throwing some birdwatching channels into the mix.

Wonder if someone old here has some YT channel recommendations.

The west has been criticizing China for years for its draconian censorship laws and societal control through social credit scores, but we're heading in that same direction right now at a fast pace. It's really scary that Trump and Vance have an actual point when they tell European leaders they're too authoritarian, that freedom of expression is in danger in their countries.

It's a shame that European leaders looked at China and instead of seeing what not to do, they saw it as a blueprint to control European citizens.

None of this is about protecting kids. The pedophile ruling class fucks kids regularly and will never face repercussions for it. This is about doubling and tripling down on tracking everything everyone does. The majority of people won't criticize the elite pedophile class of rulers if they know that the elite pedophile class of rulers is monitoring them 100% of the time.
 
This is just the start. Eventually we will have a single citizen identifiable account for most of these services. You can't have people behave the way they did on twitter etc and do nothing. Regulation will always follow.
 
I know Youtube has a massive monopoly but it didn't start that way, if they go too far with the control and censorship and all the other idiotic measures, the alternatives must step up get more popular and challenge YT, if i wasn't using Brave and not getting ads on it, i wouldn't use YT at all.

I remember pointing out that conservative states in the US were rolling out these age gate checks with driver's license and ID storage a year or two ago and most people on here didn't give a damn. A lot of people defended it. It went from state to state, gaining momentum, and now its considered normal. It was one of the issues people brought up prior to the last election. Pornhub was running ads about it. I guess no one gave a damn.

Same story as always, pick an excuse for intrusive data collection "for the kids," then a year later roll it out across the board for everything and track everything people are doing.

I think if it's strictly a porn site, it doesn't matter too much. I don't live in one of those states affected, but I haven't heard nearly as many issues compared to what is happening in the UK. Their bill was clearly designed for censorship

I created a facebook account like 6 months ago to sell something on Marketplace, the website was like "your profile looks fake, so we gonna need you to send us your ID" I was like "I'm not gonna give my ID to a random website, especially not Facebook"
 
I share my account with my kids so I can see what they are watching. Most of it is Fortnite and makeup tutorials. But I think I have had a youtube account for a while, and I have had a GMAIL account since day one.

I had a Buzz account google use your archive to know I'm an old man.

It comes as no surprise after covid and the mass censorship that happened then to protect corporate profits. I even got censored here posting negative news about the shot which we now have proof was true.

Getting censored for not going along with the narrative during covid should have woke everyone up.
 
Given the mass amounts of Aphmau, minecraft, and backrooms content streamed on my kids youtube accounts, I'd say its pretty easy for them to figure out who is a kid and who is not.
 
I think they already use AI to remove or shadowban content and comments "they" think it's not appropriate.
And somehow I feel like this exactly what Google wants. With more control they can win more content and more data to sell.
 
My grand theory is that Elon is just biting his tongue, waiting for land based internet to wall itself off completely into a dystopian hellscape, then he'll make a massive PR campaign for Starlink internet as "freedom internet" and just scoop up a MASSIVE share of internet traffic, particularly the news/social media aspect. Not sure if Starlink can handle 4k netflix to every house but thats not the area under threat.

I don't really understand why more and more companies are doing this

-Is it legal protection from liability? ie legal trouble if minors access prohibited material

-to appease advertisers and payment processors ie, PayPal,visa? In order to signal that they are safe and responsible

-or are there just enough people that think we should be doing more to keep harmful stuff out of reach from kids? ie gambling, porn

I don't buy the overly simplistic this is just "thought control" because that's not really how anything works

Ultimately a mix of all of those, but ESPECIALLY the first two.
 
Hopefully someone will make an AI where it will check all your spotify purchases, download it, and convert it to MP3, and auto cancle Spotify once its done.
