Well, that's a bit of a disappointment. Onward, then!
I've seen this been called harder than Oath by some, but what is the general consensus on the difficulty? How does it compare to Oath? I really liked Oath but it becamse so tough so fast (especially the bosses) and the savepoints were so scarce that I just gave up after a while.
It's far easier than Oath. Far. I don't know who is saying it's harder, but I just beat Oath on Hard Mode a few days ago (plus Boss Rush), and Origin on Hard Mode is pretty much Oath's Normal Mode, if not slightly easier even.I've seen this been called harder than Oath by some, but what is the general consensus on the difficulty?
Not as Hugo it isn't, been facerolling it so far.
Fun as hell though, great ass game.
On Normal, I felt it wasn't too bad save for maybe 1-2 bosses towards the end. If you get all of the upgrades, they're not too bad.
It's true, I did a Hugo run on Hard after beating the game with Yunica and it felt stupid easy.
"Run and Shoot! Run and Shoot!"
The only real disadvantage with Hugo is that his shots have very little to no hitstun on monsters. That, and I feel his EX attack is kinda useless.
I think it's more like Huge >> Claw > Yunica as well.Well, the Japanese version had recommended characters for different skill levels (Hugo, Yunica, Claw from easiest to hardest). I can definitely see how Hugo is the easiest character to play as, but the other two are pretty even. Claw might actually be easier (my opinion, at least).
Just beast some boss and got to the Flooded..something
Does the whole game take place in the tower?
Yep. But the tower is pretty varied -- I mean, it has a desert in it!

Is it possible to beat theDemon Toal the first time you meet him as Hugo?
Oh.
Are all of the Ys games like that?
Aside: Just beat the 2nd demon boss...man he was tough
Yes, if you're good enough.
Nope. The other Ys games all have an overworld, towns, dungeons and lots of Zelda-esque exploration. Ys Origin is unique in that it's basically stage-based. I like to say that Ys: The Oath in Felghana is kind of like Super Metroid, Ys Seven is kind of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night... and Ys Origin is kind of like Dracula X: Rondo of Blood. All great games with similar appeal, but Ys Origin is easily the most different of the bunch.

Does it change anything? I don't want to learn the nuances of the battle over several deaths if it just pulls the old "Congratulations,"you lose anyways!
In that particular case, unlike Yunica's equivilant fight, the dialogue at least changes. Also achievement.
Ironically I got more of a Super Metroid feel from Ys Origin thus far, but that probably has more to do with it being in one giant dungeon. Probably a better example (to me) when factoring in Origin is that Ys: Oath in Felghana is Zelda, Ys Origin is Vagrant Story, and Ys Seven is... I dunno, Secret of Mana?Nope. I don't know about the first issue, but the second is a resolution issue. Was having the same problem, but a reso change fixed that right up.Okay, picked up the game and I'm about an hour in on Yunica's route. I'm really liking the game so far (hell, I actually might be more of a fan of the "entire game takes place in the tower" approach, as the open world in Oath didn't really do it for me/I ended up teleporting between places at the first opportunity anyway).
But I have been having a few technical quirks with the game and I don't know how to really solve them.
1) What I'm assuming are pools of water in the 1F lobby are just masses of gray that become super pixelated and distorted when I walk past them. I don't really have a great problem now, but I don't want to get to a water area and all of the water is like that.
2) When looking at the Divine Blessings screen, most of the SP amount listings are cut off. Dunno if this is a resolution issue or what.

I believe you'd miss plenty, yes. In fact you get a third character with even more story.Does the ending of the game stay the same regardless of who you play as? If I only beat the game once as Yunica, am I missing much story-wise by not playing it again as Hugo?
You're missing Hugo's story if you don't play as Hugo! It has some nice surprises in it. You should do it.Does the ending of the game stay the same regardless of who you play as? If I only beat the game once as Yunica, am I missing much story-wise by not playing it again as Hugo?
It's not just the ending of the game, the game's story is different for each character.Does the ending of the game stay the same regardless of who you play as? If I only beat the game once as Yunica, am I missing much story-wise by not playing it again as Hugo?

Well, beating it with Yunica would unlock the third character due to changes in the Steam version.
But yeah, all three characters have unique aspects to their stories, with the third character being the "most canon." If there's one story you want to pay attention to it's probably that one. Hugo's is pretty interesting too though. Yunica's was the least interesting by far, in my opinion.
Oh, I knew about the change, I just meant more you'd get a third character later on. And I got the impression with Yunica's that hers is meant to be done first, given how experienced she seems to be versus Hugo (reportedly) and how she plays largely like Adol.Well, beating it with Yunica would unlock the third character due to changes in the Steam version.

Just gain one level, and it'll make all of the difference.I'm having problem with the boss in Mantid's Chamber.
All of my attacks are doing like 1 damage. Am I missing something? Or am I just seriously underleveled?
I'm trying to do the "Bursting at the Seams" one, but unless it allows you to burst near the start, not sure how I can get it.
Once you try to do the trap near the start, he goes "!" and you can't move. So I guess I have to burst there?
You're getting Burst and Boost mixed up, I think? Burst is the special attack you get much later that is used DURING Boost mode by pressing the button again.

As posted many times in the thread, the Steam version can read saves from other versions of the game, assuming you move the save data to where it expects it to be. Unless you're looking to replay the game anyway.Despite getting half-way through Claw on the Groupon relase, I bought this which means starting over. I really do love this game. Now that it supports 1080p, I'm actually seeing rare slowdown on my GTX 460 :O
Going through on Hard mode to keep things interesting. Bosses are damn tough this way, but nothing grinding can't fix.
