YS9 reviews are out

Seems a bit dissappointing considering how awesome YS8 was.

Scanning through a bunch of the full articles, the text of the reviews are (to me surprisingly) more positive than what some of the scores might suggest. That said, the game was always going to receive certain knocks: there are performance issues on PS4 (and going by multiple reviews, random crashes on PS5); too much of the action takes place in bland, sterile locations; and there's the criticism of the game feeling overlong and padded.

Ys IX likely isn't going to convert anyone into being a series fan, but it seems like those who already enjoy the franchise will probably be satisfied.

Scores don't matter.

People Weaboos buy these games just for the tiddies and thighs, just like with Atelier Ryza.

If that was the case wouldn't games like Onechanbara be more popular?

Most people liked Atelier Ryza because they genuinely enjoyed the actual game.....I know I did.

I'd like to pretend that you're creating a human that doesn't exists but I know of some :|.

It's really pathetic people buying trash games(not sure if this is the case here) just to get some weird fetish, when they can just look at whatever the fuck this anime thing is free online.

Us Ys fans are spoiled IMO. We've got like 4 games on one console? Most of which are genuinely great? Granted, I've only played the demo of Monstrum, but 80 isn't close to a disappointing score.

All I need to know is whether to buy it for switch or ps4. Once its out for switch I'll just watch some videos of JRPG fans playing it on each system to figure that out.

Scores aside, which are about as useful as the first reply, I wouldn't buy this one at launch anyways after NISA's magnificently shit job with Ys8.

I pre-ordered it last July, and is coming in next week. Currently in the middle of Persona 5 Royal, so I think I may not be able to play it after I'm done with it - but nevertheless, I am looking forward it very much.

I am, however not expecting it to top Ys8 in terms of story and all. I am, however looking forward more for the Ys 5 remake, or Ys10 - whenever it may happen. (Probably we'll get it next year in Japan, and probably 2023 in U.S.) I do hope Kondo would give the series more thoughts as he's wrapping up the Trail series.

8 is a solid score, especially when the graphic engine is so dated that some PS3 games look better. Ys 8 had the same flaw but the game was great. Terrible graphics but good cast of characters, nice story, amazing combat and sound track.

Im not buying Ys 9 day 1, but im buying it.

VIII was crap, so I'm not expecting much. I still have some weird interest in this series. No idea why, that headache inducing music ain't doing it any favors.

Huh, the PS4 version is out of stock online at all the Canadian retailers. Hope I can pick it up next week in store. I have loved all the Ys games.

wanted to give this a launch bump.. has anyone had hands on yet instead of meta scores?? what are your impressions so far if so?

Only 18 reviews so far, so that score could change.

I will say, the graphics are downright ugly. I watched a bunch of video reviews because I was in disbelief about how bad it looked.

What's a good Ys to start with? Haven't played any of them.
Oath in Felghana. Graphics are still serviceable thanks to good art direction, soundtrack is amazing, gameplay is excellent, and it's not padded at all as a 10 hourish romp. Just don't go in expecting a fancy story, as the gameplay comes first.

Played about two hours today. Made it to the Shantytown. It's similar to Ys VIII in terms of gameplay. Story is better and flings you into the mystery much quicker then Ys VIII. Hopefully it sticks the landing as well as Ys VIII. One thing I didn't like is that there is no anime opening.

Overall, I like it.

80 metacritic is bad?
Wtf?

My 2020 GOTY was Ghost of Tsushima (83).

I'm not a huge fan of YS, but really enjoyed VII (PSP). Tried VIII and wasn't into the location and story, but the combat/gameplay is really good (fast and addictive).
I'm not buying it day 1, but I'm buying it (wait for a price drop).

This is why i am more interested to know actual persons hands on takes rather than critic reviews on metacritic and hot takes regarding "graphics". Everyone knows Falcom games aren't graphical powerhouses and it seems that everything nowadays is either judged by souls games formula, Last of Us II graphics or some other metric that isn't fair to all developers.

AND i will probably wait to get it too just in hopes for a patch for any bugs that can make the experience the best it can be. Don't mind paying full price to ensure supporting Falcom where i can. Not that my 60 bucks matters in the grand scheme but hey
