Yup.. Another Xbox 360 pre-order thread (Amazon)

vatstep

This poster pulses with an appeal so broad the typical restraints of our societies fall by the wayside.
It looks like Amazon maybe now be taking pre-orders for X360. The regular Amazon page for the X360 still lists "this item is currently not available". But if you do a search you can find the pages for the 360s offered by the Toys R Us store. Both have shipping dates of November 7th.

Xbox 360
Retard Pack

Best of all, no bundles. Now we'll just have to wait and see if they honor these, if it was a slip up, etc. I remember people getting their PSP pre-orders cancelled for the same reasons, I think.

So I'm getting the premium pack via every10minutes. What else am I going to need to make sure I'm getting the best experience?

I'd imagine I need the wireless recharger?
And is the Xbox Live stuff standard with all premium packs?
What's the difference between Gold and Silver?

And the headset is standard with the premium pack?

Holy shit, we're really making out.

Premium pack comes with the headset, yeah; plus hard drive, wireless controller, component cables, and mini remote. All wireless controllers, including the one that comes with the console, use AA batteries. You can buy the play + charge kit for $20, which includes a rechargable battery pack and the cord you need to charge it. Or you could always just get a few rechargable AAs and a charger; that's what I plan on doing.

So, the difference between XBL Silver and Gold.. Well, with Gold you can play online. Silver, you can't. Silver is pretty much just for people who want to chat, download free stuff, etc. Gold is what 95% of people are gonna want. Silver is completely free, Gold is $50 a year (you get a 30 day trial with the 360).

well, I'm confused now. They've got the rechargable batterypack for $12 and the play and charge kit for $20.

Do you have to buy both?

Nope. Say you have four wireless controllers; your best option would probably be to buy ONE play + charge kit (comes with a cable and a battery), and THREE additional batteries separately. In total, that would give you four batteries, and one cable to connect/charge them. I don't think anyone's going to need to charge two controllers at the same time - but if so, you can always buy two P+C kits and TWO batteries.

Thanks.

I'm trying to figure out what I need to save for, and you're really helping.

Has there been word on the launch games yet?

Nope.. MS is being very hush-hush. Only two months from launch with no list of launch titles, and no confirmed launch date. But, here are the most likely candidates to ship within two weeks of launch or so:

# Call of Duty 2 (Activision)
# Condemned (Sega)
# Dead Or Alive 4 (Tecmo)
# Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (Bethesda)
# Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter (Ubisoft)
# Gun (Activision)
# Kameo: Elements of Power (Microsoft)
# Madden NFL 06 (EA)
# NBA 2K6 (2K Games)
# NHL 2K6 (2K Games)
# The Outfit (THQ)
# Perfect Dark LE (Microsoft)
# Project Gotham Racing 3 (Microsoft)
# Quake 4 (Activision)
# Ridge Racer 6 (Namco)
# Tony Hawk's American Wasteland (Activision)

Heh, it is, they're just releasing two versions. $50 for the regular, $60 for the limited edition (LE). It comes in an aluminum tin and has an extra DVD with special features, making-of, etc.

Ah. Well, there's no chance I'm getting the limited edition.

Drinky was talking about the game in IRC last night, and he said he confused it with Halo to the lead tester. I dont't know if I'll be picking it up.

I might get GUN, as it looks somewhat interesting, but the big title I'm waiting for isn't out until next year (Dead Rising).

preordered. no lining up at gamestop and making awkward small talk with circumambient fatties for MEEEEEEEE

They don't charge until they ship right? On the off chance that I might win one through everytenminutes.com, I don't want the hassle of canceling.

Right they dont charge till they ship, you have plenty of time to cancel your order if you win one.

No, they don't charge until they ship, but they MIGHT give you a 24-hour authorization charge for the full amount. And this sucks if you have a debit card. I circumvented this by selecting "pay with check", then when the order was complete, I just went back in and changed it to my debit card. Just to be safe - considering this is what happened when I ordered the Walmart bundle and they gave me an authorization charge:

spoke to rep. she said it was made available due to a technical error and should not have been. they dont know how many they will get or when. so they are cancelling orders.

WTF? :lol :lol

I got the cancelled e-mail too. I called this shit, though. It was obviously a slip-up, which is why I kept my Walmart bundle. The main video games page on Amazon has still said all along "Xbox 360 is right around the corner! Sign up now to be notified once it's available for pre-order." If pre-orders were officially available, why wouldn't that notice ever change? Still, I can't believe that they did this same shit with the PSP, and now with this. Amazon sucks.

When they officially do go up, I'm willing to bet that they're bundles, too.

They cancelled mine,I knew it was too good to be true,f-ing amazon.

Glad I held on to my walmart.com order :)

Because they forgot to bundle in $200 in accessories.

:lol

So true.

Got mine
Due to a system error, we mistakenly listed the Xbox 360 Video Game
System you recently ordered as "available" on our web site.

We're sorry, but this item is not currently available. Therefore, we
have cancelled your order and your credit card has not been charged.

Again, we apologize for any disappointment this has caused.

Oh well, I never expected it to happen anyway

Don't fail me Walmart!

Good lord, Amazon used the ridiculous gaming cliché "[insert system] fans, rejoice!" on the Computer & Video Games page.

And WTF...including a *faceplate* in the bundles? Or is it just the faceplate that's on the system when you take it out of the box?
