Zeku revealed for Street Fighter V!

Yeah he reminds me of a mix between Ibuki and Guy.

His flip kicks and standing slash kicks are pretty Nash-like. It's gotta be hard at this point to create new characters that have totally new kinds of moves that work in the established context, so I can't really blame Capcom for cobbling things together from existing ideas.

I have zero knowledge on the Strider canon, but I do know that strider exists in 2048 or so... So could Zeku's disappearance have led to him starting whatever strider's group is doing since I'm assuming sfv takes place closer to 2000 than 2050? The costume design (and one of Zeku's kicks looks like strider's full screen cypher swipes) is way too similar for it not to be deliberate.

Edit: just realized that "strider" is the group and "hiryu" is his name.

Sagat, Sakura, Necro, Viper, Q, Oro, Makoto, Dudley, Abel, Decapre, Cody, and Poison aren’t in the game yet so Capcom can chill on introducing more new characters, IMO.

Street Fighter V would have to take place around 1996-1997 or so, if anyone still is keeping track. Obviously everyone still uses modern tech so I don't think Capcom care much.

The entire season is new characters tho?

Unless you're talking about for the following season?

Isn't Decapre in the game in story mode? When are they going to add peter?

Yes, the next three seasons.

Out of that list, I really want Sakura and Poison tbh. Though all of them are good enough to deserve a spot in this game.

Abel's in the story mode too, though unlike Decapre, you don't fight against him.

And I'm still surprised Peter isn't playable yet.

His playstyle looks like Guy. I didn't like Guy in SF4.

And he has a ton of overpriced DLC coming his way I see. Capcom is really hard pressed for cash, I guess.

He looks way cooler than I was expecting.

I expected him to just be green Guy (since Abigail got the exact same outfit as he used to, just with different proportions), so it's cool that he got an actual new design. I do wish they didn't just use Hiryu's color scheme for his young form though.

Also, I need to hear the full version of that theme

I have a feeling that Zeku's character story will reveal him to be the founder of the Striders ("looking to start his own ninja group"). I don't think the Hiryu-like costume and color scheme are coincidental.

Capcom could easily retcon Strider lore, but it's possible that Kuramoto is his codename. If he's in his sixties now, he'd be well over 100 years old by the events of the first Strider game (ridiculously old men are common in anime).

Stuff I picked up on watching the trailer.

Old Zeku:
-Has a kick 'slice' special that can knock-up, is ex-able, knock up can be followed-up on.
-Has a command flip, is ex-able, options off the flip include a command grab on ground opponents & an attack that hits behind him, useful for when the command flip crosses up the opponent. Cross-up flip attack can lead to a combo.
-Has a SRK kick like Ibuki's that can be ex'd.
-Can combo off his crush-counters. CC buttons seem to be st.hk & cr.hp.
-Can combo into his young-Zeku swap.

Young Zeku:
-Has a shoulder-tackle special which can be ex'd. both ex & non-ex versions knock up & can be followed up with an additional attack.
-Has a 2-finger thrust special. Ex version causes a crumple. Can be combo'd into
-Has Guy's command-dash special. Can be combo'd into. One of the command-dash options is the lunging low-sweep. Ex command dash features the same teleport-dash seen in Zeku's VT.
-Has a command grab which hits airborne opponents. Can be combo'd into off of ex-shoulder tackle.

Zeku VT:
-Seems to be a mode where Zeku can cancel his normals into a teleport dash which can be combo'd from. Has far longer combo strings off of this teleport dash than in the character's typical kit.

The only thing I can think of being the character swap, other than another special, is its his VSkill.

He looks good. I am pretty happy with all of the Season 2 characters from a aesthetic standpoint (even Abigail.) It's been hit or miss on whether I find their play styles fun. Interested in learning how his mechanics work, hopefully a blog post soon?

Seems pretty clear to me, it’s not subtle even in the trailer. Especially with the noise his kicks make.

That would be kinda tight, I would totally be into that

I wouldn't be surprised

They've already sorta done that with C. Viper and Captain Commando

"First seen in Street Fighter Alpha 2, Zeku was Guy’s former teacher, who taught him to master Bushinryu, a style of ninjutsu. Eventually, Guy was able to obtain the title of 39th Master of Bushinryu. Zeku then disappeared and was never seen again…until now! Zeku has reappeared looking to start his own ninja group and find a new fighting style. "

Looks like they are indeed trying to make Zeku, at least Strider Hiryus predecessor.

You are trying really hard aren't you or maybe your memory is failing you?
The current amount of DLC is the same as Akuma. Story costume can be earned with FM, Battle comes with the Seasons Pass and Nostalgia is paid like Akumas Nostalgia.

The only thing off is his young style is clearly Bushinryu so it's weird that in his quest to create a new style of martial arts that his old style (which is young version)'s look is adopted by the Striders.

This probably wasn't intentional from his conception
but I like that zeku looks like he's from an older manga,

Cool character. But I don't get the costumes. I want him to look like that bottom left picture as his standard.

I think it might be a gen gameplay related type think

But his hair is white?

Yeah, I edited that out after watching more closely and coming to the same conclusion (i.e. that it only was a yellowish glow on white hair). Apologies.

I must admit that he is growing on me already despite my initial negative reaction.

Sounds like he thinks the young Zeku costumes are separate DLC.

I see more than 1 costume they want you to buy. A lot more.
