Zelda delay explanation: "Incredible new elements"

The others (save Geist) were Nintendo properties published by them with their approval; as such, they imposed the delays, not the developers. And they still turned out disappointing.

source? sauce?

Of course there can still be crap elements, my point is that it becomes less likely that there will be crap elements and more likely that it will be perfect.

I think the graphics already ruled out perfection :)

Oh yeah. Horrible graphics. *cough*

This is the nintendo i like ! delaying very good titles until they are completely satisfied with them. I think that hasn't happened in a while, and we got very good games which, however, were not 'oldnintendo-perfect' (see, Zelda tww).
TP will rock.

so instead of aiming to release TP on the same day as 360 they are instead going to launch on same day as ps3 in japan*

Great, ignore the XBOX threat again Nintendo, doing so only left you in 3rd place last time

*im purely speculating it will launch on same day as PS3. However they were determined to use Zelda as a tool to deter the 360 launch and now the game has been pushed to Spring 2006 (April or later) and that is when Sony is claiming the ps3 will be ready...

People actually think Zelda would have really affected 360 sales?

No reasons have been given for the delay, but it is thought that Nintendo's team at Entertainment, Analysis and Development simply requires more time to adequately polish the gargantuan 3D adventure.

Polish my ass, the game looked great at E3.

MS stated it will launch Halo 3 on the same day as PS3, companies must feel this strategy will work

Yes but Halo 3 is a next gen game going against a next gen system. Unlike Zelda against x360.

I'm more disapointed because I was looking forward to finally getting rid of my dust-encrusted Gamecube after beating Zelda.

And how much of the game did you see? The opening town, the first dungeon, and probably the first horseback battle in the game?

For all we know they still have another 3 or 4 dungeons they haven't finished putting in.

Could it be they just want to release it start of fiscal year 2006 because they want the earnings in that quarter?

this time it was the devs that requested the delay so that they can finish up extra levels and polish the game up more.

I love this market spin. "We're delaying the product for months because we're adding incredible new elements".

See the thing is though, as consumers-- we really didn't even know what much of the existing elements were all about since Nintendo has been hush hush about them...so how are we supposed to identify the new exciting elements to justify the extra wait when the game is finally released??

I bet my money on that when they say "incredible new elements" what they really mean is "yeah we fucked up and have to push the date..sorry!"

Yeah, this seriously reminds me of Ocarina of Time. Supposed to come out in 1997 and gets delayed all the way until Fall 1998, thus leaving a big gaping hole in Nintendo's XMAS 1997 lineup. That's when, out of nowhere, Rare announced Diddy Kong Racing for release that November to fill the void. And then of course we also got Golden Eye 007 that August 1997, and we all know how big of a hit that ended up being. Anyway, the thing is, this time around Nintendo doesn't have any surprise games to fill the void. This delay really sucks. It might not be that bad if we would at least get a release date to go along with the bad news, but all we get is "after March 31, 2006". Way to pinpoint that release down! Hell, anyone think that one year from today (Aug. 16) that the game will be on store shelves? I sure hope so...

Of course, the Windwaker was delayed too, if we all remember. From November 2002 to March 2003. Maybe Nintendo will take the extra time to add some cool extras and an awesome collector's edition?

hey craig, (I agree with you), since you work on the DS channel, is there a chance we'll see new Super Mario Bros this year?

Nintendo will announce Diddy Kong Racing 2 at TGS, developed by Retro and coming this holiday season. Then I will cry.

I think there's little to no chance of Super Mario Bros. coming out this year. Nintendo's official press site lists that game as "TBA". Also, in their press release today regarding the Nintendo DS price cut next Monday listed the top holiday games coming out (Mario Kart, Animal Crossing, Mario & Luigi 2), but Super Mario Bros. was missing from that list. I suspect the earliest we'll see that game in the U.S. will be March 2006. I wish we'd see it sooner, but I highly doubt it with all the high quality DS games coming out over the next 3 months. Nintendo likes to spread out their 1st party releases where possible and honestly it'd be a bit of Mario overload if we got M&L2, SMB, and Mario Kart all in the same month. I wouldn't mind it, but from a sales standpoint Nintendo would be better off moving SMB into 2006.

thanks for the input. Mario and Luigi 2 is nice anyway.

It really is a shame. My damn Gamecube is just collecting dust, and the 3D Zeldas range from good (WW) to perfection (OoT). I was looking forward to this. But oh well, there's the 360 this fall, and a bunch of DS games. Guess next year will be my big RPG playing year, with DQ8, FF12 and Zelda: TP.

Craig Majaski said:
OMG...don't tell me DQ8 is delayed to next year? If it is I'll burn this place to the ground.

I'm serious.

And I'll aid you. But there has been no delay...yet. This is SE we're talking about.

:lol :lol Sorry, you're most definitely right, but if they did have a surprise game then by definition we wouldn't know about it, would we?

Looks like I'm in the minority, but I really don't care about Nintendo's crazy business decisions at all, and I'm just gonna enjoy their great games while they keep coming. I've got such a huge backlog/frontlog at the moment that a few months delay is fine with me, especially if the game's gonna be better as a joke.

That water looks very familiar from a certain level in Mario Sunshine. Which isn't really a bad thing at all, since that game had beautiful water effects (probably the best ever on a console).

actually Aounuma said he toyed with the idea of voice acting....
Zelda has always had voice acting but in a different way, all the characters make noises and thats what I think Aounuma was talking about.

I think its point one. We've had enough GAFers bitching about how Wind Waker's ending sucked and how amazing it would be if it was finished properly and stuff. This delay ensures that it won't happen again. Which is good.
Who complained about Zelda: WW's ending. There was nothing wrong with the ending at all IMO. The final battle with Ganondorf was truly amazing and the way he died was done really well.

If you are talking about the triforce hunt, then I agree with you, that was so fucking boring and it did feel rushed. They could have added a lot more temples instead of finding the triforce shards in the sea.

i think zelda tp will be launched at the same time as revolution, but will still be a gc title.

maybe a few new features for revolution that can be implemented in a short time, but it will still primarily be a gc game.
