Zombi U pics + footage

one thing I don't understand - if there is no saving, will there be checkpoints/new locations that you unlock as a starting point for the next character after you died or do you have to play and finish in one sitting? but then the game won't be longer than 2-3 hours...

Well they say its mission based so I think they mean you have to fully complete a mission in one go. Sounds like Left 4 Dead style.

Essentially you can plan for multiple characters with that storage bit then?

In theory yes, but there are several 'safe houses' in the game, and you'll spawn at one randomly with each new survivor. So you might dump a load of goodies into one safe house storage box, die, and then spawn somewhere totally different with the next survivor. You'll have to work your way to the other safe house to collect the goods.

I'm not sure. There's 'missions', and the girl doing the dev walkthrough goes to mention something about (I think) "10 hours" but never finishes.

The goal might simply be to have one survivor last ten hours worth of play, or something like that, and every time you 'quit' it simply makes note of where you last were, picking up immediately from there. That way there's no traditional saving or checkpointing, nor any real way to 'cheat' the system.

I could be wrong though. That's just how I'd do it.

I don't get it. What does Red Steel have to do with this other than it was a launch game by Ubi?

It's an entirely different team making this game people.

No, no relation, other than they're both launch games and I've suffered before from screenshots made to make the game look prettier.

Thankfully, there's actual proof that the game looks that good.

The video is great stuff.

Yeah, I watched just now, and I'm really impressed - both inside and outside, the game looks amazing. I hope they continue to work hard on it, as this is already set up to be a great launch title. With some neat gameplay features and mechanics such as the one-life type system, this is going to be great.

Yep game looks a lot better since the e3 build :)

Also loving the look and feel of this game, shotgun looks fucking sic IMO.

Day 1 yep Ubi you sold me a Wii U and not Nintendo lol :P

For those just tuning in, here's what we learned from E3 (mostly from the dev walkthrough):

- Set in London.
- Emphasis on survival. How long you can stay alive.
- One bite, you die. That 'character' is gone forever. Lose all your skills/gear.
- No saving, checkpoints of 'game overs'.
- Instead you 'respawn' as a different survivor in a different location, yet in the same game world.
- Can run into your previously played, now dead, survivors. Kill them to loot equipment you found during that play.
- 'Dynamic' level design to avoid obvious scripting. Scares/spawns different each time you play.
- As the game world is persistent actions by one survivor will be observable by another. EG: Unlock doors with one character, that character dies. Second character will find those doors unlocked. Equipment stored in safe houses by dead survivors lootable by new ones.
- Leaderboards ranking deaths per 'mission'.
- Wii U GamePad is your 'survival kit'. Used for interacting with the game world, using tools, etc.
- Used to create a cinematic 'third person' perspective when interacting via the pad. Devs liken it to horror movie scenes like someone trying to unlock a car, and an over the shoulder perspective showing incoming zombies.
- Can upgrade weapons.

That actually sounds great. For the first time since it was unveiled, I'm excited for this game. It's looking pretty good too, especially the work they are putting into the atmosphere.

I remember how hilarious this looked on that Nintendo Direct video the day before E3. This actually looks like it might be the best game on the WiiU

Yeah, the footage looked so god-awful on that nintendo direct that I was convinced it was just some shitty footage made quickly by nintendo specifically for the ND.

It looks so much better now that I have no idea how early that footage must have been.

THE Wii U game I'm really interested in. I said before but Ubisoft has done a better job selling me on the system (Zombi U and Rayman Legends) then Nintendo itself has. This is my launch game. Glad the game looks even better now and looking forward to Gamescom to see what else is shown.

Great premise and its clear the Souls franchise is an influence. I'd possibly buy it, if it was on the 360 but its no way near a system seller.

The shooting mechanics looks awful. There's like a jerkiness...

Well, there is a weapon leveling system in place (mentioned by the woman giving the E3 walkthrough) and if this was my game, if I was going to show weapon proficiency visually I would display it in just that way. When you first pick up a new weapon you're "shakey" with it. More kickback and all that. And of course as you gained proficiency your aiming would grow more steady.

Just a theory though.

Don't forget the bit about your online buddies being able to put your previously turned character out of his misery.

I hope other games use the whole miiverse and social features more like ZombiU does than just messages or notifications or shit, seeing your dead friend ingame is a lot more entertaining than a message about it.

That's another thing they seem to be doing right compared to Nintendo, their miiverse functionality in NSMBU looks relatively uninteresting so far - unless there's ghost speedruns in it or something, that would be pretty cool.

That awesome rendition of god save the queen needs to be somewhere in the game, too.

Is it me or does the lighting seem vastly improved? I don't remember being this nice in the first footage.

Good news!!

Definitely not just you. I remember being really underwhelmed by how flat the game looked during the E3 reveal week and during walkthrus. It looks pretty damned great now though, only thing is the zombies seem to lack weight like Jason mentioned. They have time to polish it even further though, so I'm pretty pumped

This would be awesome! Imagine the tension when you're on your nineth hour with this one lucky character that you've managed to survive with...

I know that if i wasn't overly careful already then i would begin to move at snail speeds and closely observe everything even more in order to make sure that character lives.

This game looks so great, like a really neat twist on the genre. Between Zombi U, Creed 3, and fucking RAYMAN, Ubisoft are really bringing the thunder for the Wii U launch.

This and Legends remain firmly on my radar. Good job, Ubi!
