Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U Thread 5: Yarning for Yoshi

I think it's been said that their relationship is up to the player, but I believe in an interview for Melee, Sakurai said that he imagined them as being lovers.

Good enough for me. Come aboard the Anti-Hype Train, everyone!

Why would Ice Climbers be anti hype. Remember when people said they'd be cut because the 3DS wouldn't be able to handle them. Their reveal would be the final punch to the nay sayers' chops.

Pic of the day. Tomorrow is Valentine's Day...and the day the new Nintendo Direct airs! It will stream in Japan at 7 AM so it's going to be a very early morning for us...!

She looks like Mister Bill. Do we really need a 'realistic' or more animu peach?
Why do only the female characters become more 'realistic'? Can you imagine Wario like that?

Because they already look more proportional human. Mario is a short guy with a big nose. It's hard to make he look semi realistic. Marth and Link however get the "realism" treatment.

Because no newcomer for the Direct and it's a vet that most fans hate.
Myself not included.

Nintendo Direct's gonna be 41 minutes. This is one of the longest ones we've got. I'm expecting a surprise or two, including some smash stuff!

They have to spin it so it comes out as a net negative after being wrong pound for pound? :P

I'd take anything from RogersBase with a grain of salt.

20 minutes of Iwata bowing. 11 minutes of Miyamoto showing off Wii U Music Concert. 10 minutes of Reggie talking about liking DQ7.

He works at Nintendo, right?

Yay, no decent reveal then.

That's what I suspected. I guess they are saving up newcomers for unlockable or E3 Direct, BUT we could have more than one character reveal today tho.

Edited: People saying that Ice Climbers would make sense for Valentine Reveal, then what about Diddy and Dixie team?

With valentines day + direct, we're most likely getting Diddy and Dixie as the reveals. Though I think they'll be separate characters, the tag team idea still seems really dumb imo.

On a different note, I have a question.

So if Donkey Kong is a gorilla, Diddy is a monkey, Dixie is probably a chimpanzee....what the hell is Candy?

I'm still on the fence about having Diddy and Dixie possibly being a tag team character, but with it being Valentine's Day (ugh) and it coinciding with TF, if there was a CG trailer showcasing them together that'd be really cute.

.I'd much rather Dixie shone on her own, and we all know Diddy isn't going anywhere.

I wouldn't mind a Diddy-Dixie tag-team, depending on how they do it. If it's like the Ice Climbers I'm not on board - I think that ends up cheapening Dixie AND and the Climbers. If it's like Zelda/Shiek, or a combination of the two styles (both are on the field but have different movesets and you can swap between them), I'm good with that.

As long as both characters have fully fleshed-out movesets I'm cool with it, in short. DKC2 is definitely on my "best games ever" list so I have no problem with it getting a character all its own.

...I think I'd still prefer them separate, though.

The Direct is on Valentines Day... (in Japan)

Valentines Day includes imagery of Cupid.

Cupid is a Cherub...

Cherubs have wings...

Pit has wings...

Pit adores Palutena...

MONITA CONFIRMED FOR SMASH.

I don't think it will affect development. Surely there are others working on the game that can help Sakurai out with his duties. Remember that he is the director of the game, but also so very intent on doing all the testing and balancing himself, which is probably why this is so difficult for him. Sad as it may be, Sakurai can just continue being the lead on the game while relegating the testing and balancing to others who won't be in pain while doing in.

I feel for him, but he needs a break. It seems he works rather hard and it's time for someone else to take over some of his duties for now. He doesn't have to be Director / Game Designer/ Tester/ Lead Balancing/ Lead Hitbox Putter inner, but he's so committed that he does all those things.

Unfortunately, this kind of injury is something that would require a pretty long time to rehab. What I see happening is Sakurai roughing out the rest of development on SSB, and then he'll take a break from development period after it's done. That'll be good for him, physically and mentally. But it sucks that such a genius has such a disabilitating condition.

can somebody quote the article? can't read it here at work

Development on the upcoming Super Smash Bros. game for Wii U and 3DS is taking a physical toll on director Masahiro Sakurai. After revealing last year that he's suffering from calcific tendinitis and muscle ruptures in his right shoulder (which is affecting his right arm), he has now spoken out to say this condition is now affecting his left arm as well.

"The tendon sheath inflammation symptoms in my left forearm are especially hard to deal with." Sakurai said in his latest Famitsu blog (translated by Kotaku). "I've been moving the controller as gently as possible. And losing at Smash Bros…"

What specific impact Sakurai's arm injury has on the development of the new Super Smash Bros. game remains to be seen, but it could be serious. Sakurai said in February 2013 that, "If this disorder lingers, or if it never gets fixed, there's no telling what impact that would have on the project."
.

That gamespot article offers no new info from when we heard about this a year ago.....

Edit: never mind I didn't read that he posted something recently on his blog.
