Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U Thread 5: Yarning for Yoshi

Sakurai needs to take a long break after he finishes Smash Bros. He worked on Kid Icarus for three years and then jumped immediately into SSB.

Smash will do nothing for Wii U. It's not going to turn it around.

This should be Sakurai's last game and then call it quits. It's time he ends his pain and misfortune.

So I was at target earlier and they have the cards now.

Of course Smash 4 isn't going to turn the Wii U into a Wii-level success, but people suggesting that Nintendo should let it slip to 2015 or later are nuts. Nintendo needs to to whatever they can to make sure this thing even hits Gamecube numbers, and no Smash in 2014 (especially if they have nothing else with such a broad appeal other than MK8) would be disastrous. We're talking <2M sales, stores giving up on stocking the system, what few third parties left abandoning the system, etc.

what exactly do you think it'll do

It's not going to make the console a huge success, but it certainly is going to improve the sales. Pop-O-Matic has the absolutely right idea and put it into pretty much exactly the words I would put them.

Saying it would do "nothing" is completely far-fetched, and ignorant of the buying power certain franchises have.

If Sakurai wants to keep making games, he needs to stop personally testing so much.

I think he can do a great job by overseeing everything instead of risking his body.

Either way, he deserves a break.

I'm buying a Wii U JUST for this game. If it wasn't coming it, I would wait for one even longer, despite the strong titles coming out (3D World), and forthcoming (Mario Kart 8)

Fine, it might cause a negligible amount of raised console sales and that's about it. The only game with potential to revert the Wii U is MK8, but it's not likely at all.

This isn't even about reversing the Wii U's trajectory as much as it is about keeping it from falling even faster.

I know an artist who has had really bad arm/wrist tendon-related problems. It's always really sad when people can't do things they love because of problems like this. I really hope Sakurai takes some sort of break after this game, no matter what Nintendo needs or says.

And those reservation cards look so tempting. ;_;

Well, melee + double dash drove the gamecube to its sales. Gamecube sales would be a step up from the current wiiu sales. So some amount of damage control may still work.

I mean, if we're going to change the definitions of things, I imagine any statement can be true, yes.

Oh I'm not saying that it would make the Wii U a success, again. I never disagreed with that point. But the Wii U needs a few (financially) strong games to keep it from plummeting even harder than it already is.

He's right. He said that Kid Icarus: Uprising is good enough for next 20-25 years. I don't remember how he said it but it was similar to what I just typed.

He said that he's sure that within the next 25 years, some other developer will be able to make a good sequel to Uprising.

I had a weird dream:

Waluigi is a playable character
Palutena is not a playable character
Ridley is not a playable character
Something called "Punch Sistah" is a playable character
Pichu is a playable character

feels to good to be true for an earlier release date. Dis hype tho.

And aww crap Sakurai is getting worse?? This is not good. I think he should be used as an advisor or some other role where he is forced to NOT have full creative control. Nintendo needs to take care of this man. lol

He needs this

If nothing is going to do anything for the Wii U, why even bother mentioning it???

It's a good thing Nintendo aren't quitting on the console like many here because then we wouldn't get the games.
