Titanfall Beta (PC/Xbone) Impressions (No Key Begging/Trading or I will ban you!)

Their function is to be dota creeps.

Instead of farming them for 'gold', you farm them to reduce your titan cooldown. Their purpose is not to be difficult or be replacements for human players.
Makes sense since titans are the main attraction. I guess Respawn wants to ensure that every player has a chance to obtain a couple of call-ins each round

Vsync off works fine so I'd expect gsync working fine as well as it "simply" adjusts the monitor refresh rate to be in sync with the rendered frames.
Would be cool if you could verify this though.

Got a chance to test it out a bit, not much more than the training though (work calls) but there was definitely no tearing and no stuttering with gsync. No noticeable input lag either, so gsync is definitely doing it's job here if there are problems with tearing on current nvidia drivers. Good to hear they're working on it. I'd like to see the game at 120+ fps but right now there appears to be a limiter.

The game really does 'feel' great though, the added dimension of wall jumping really does add a very interesting dynamic. Another is the addition of the titans keeps you from being comfortable, it's like in most games you get used to noticing quickly what a player looks like from a distance, size/silhouette/etc. but with the titans out there your perspective shifts constantly, you're looking for players that used to be normal human size but now the perspective shifts and they're suddenly much smaller and less noticeable. It's a cool dynamic.

Doesn't hurt that I really love the aesthetic of the game. But to get the movement fluid and just feeling 'right' is a big accomplishment. You can definitely feel the IW roots in the gameplay.

edit: should have probably mentioned my specs: i5 3570k @4.5ghz, ddr3 1600, 680GTX 4gb, Asus VG248QE with Gsync kit

My settings are all at High, but in game they all appear to be low. I have no idea how to change this.

Anyone have any ideas?

bf4 looks better and runs better ;_;

this, IMO, is the games biggest (only?) major failure - titans just arent all that fun.

Seems super fun so far and controls great. Runs like absolute shit though on a GT555m. Which is odd because I can usually get at least 60 fps in any game at 720p with the settings turned down. Crysis 3 ran better than this.

Probably means I won't be purchasing the full game unfortunately :(

I do think some of us need reminding that it's still beta. There's plenty of time for final performance improvements between Respawn and Nvidia/ATI I've been streaming the game as well from the same computer. All things considering, not bad for having it on max settings.

I do hope we get more maps like Angel city more then Fracture, or at least a different version for it. Fracture was basically made for Titans you can tell and parkouring isn't as easy as the other map obviously.

Also I hope they fix the AI bunched up together when they spawn in, like I've come across entire groups that were just stuck on each other next to their dropship module.

Basically the game needs more content and longevity to survive.

I think the game is fun, but shouldn't we as consumers want more then what is on offer here? This game in no way changes anything - I honestly think the AI is there because the engine cant handle handle any more, and I think the PC version has been dumbed down graphically so people gear more toward the xbone version, due to less comparative reasons.

The way people are eating this up, saddens me - this is why CoD does well ever year, because we don't demand more. I think Respawn have played this way too safe.

I wish there was more of a sense of scale, some destruction - more of everything that as been on offer. I really think they went with the wrong engine on this, and that is the reason behind the rubbish graphics and bots. I don't care about having bots in the game, and the size of the current maps, wouldn't allow for any more titans at once, but I don't buy Vince's PR spin that this was a decision they made - it was made for them because the engine isn't capable of more.

I like not being snipped across the map (BF4), I love the parkour and jumping - there are in fact a lot of things to love about the game, but also so many missed opportunities.

For me this has turned into a must have to, I can live without - if not, wait for Titanfall 2, with the frostbite 3 engine or something. Destruction, and ambient shit going on in the world would just give even more immersion.

There's something about mechs that do it for me. I haven't had this much fun since Mech Assault on the Xbox. The Mirror's Edge jumping and wall running helps as well.

This game is going to need regular fresh maps if it wants to last well into the year of a sequel IMO, for example the reason I played quake 3 and the UT series so much was because of official and non official maps, UT 2004 had a lot of maps for release and then more.

This game is insanely fun to play, most fun I've had in a MP game in a long time.

Calling in a titan and hearing the sonic crack of it bursting through the air is amazing. I'm a God awful Titan pilot though but my ground work is fairly solid

The controls are incredibly tight and easy to use. I thought it would take time to get wall running down but I was doing it instantly

Really?

Do you know how to use them well?

It's a damn rush getting them earlier and the battles are just so intense. Usually kill 2 titans with it before I'm taken down.

Can we make a poll? Now that we've played Titanfall, who is now under the impression the phrases "game changer" and "revolutionary" are a way to describe this game?

Really ? I'm surprised at someone saying that. I fucking love the Titans.

yeah. titan-titan combat is slow and cumbersome. but the worst is how easy it is to get a titan hung up on stuff trying to move around a map, specifically other titans. navigating in last titan standing is awful.

Ok just played for about an hour on PC, I take back everything I said about this game being a COD clone. It's a blast to play but it's ugly as sin.

I'm actually going to pick this up day one on PC.

Well it is made by the guys who made Medal of Honor Allied Assault towards Call of Duty MW1/2. They know how to roll since there independent and not a part of EA or Activision anymore.

Interesting.

Do you think the enemy AI needs a buff or would getting killed by aimbots CoD veteran style piss you off? It sounds like the computer isn't even a challenge for people at this point and is just there to make the maps feel less empty.

They need a buff. Most of the time they just stand there doing nothing.

Been playing most of the morning on PC. First impression is that it doesn't look or run that good. Other games in the genre run better. But it is just beta. I actually have more fun running around with my pilot taking out the grunts or other pilots. I just hit the guard mode on my Titan and have him follow me around. Once I get in Titan, I feel my enjoyment of the game goes way down. It seems clunky, and I feel like I'm I being plastered from every direction. I actually want to get out of the damn thing. The burn cards are a nice feature that you can collect.
After the hype dies down it will be interesting to see where this goes. I feel people will go right back to COD.

Just got a Strider Burn card...I think I'll be too scared to use it?

What's the difference?

Stryder is the lightest titan class. That titan has 3 dashes instead of 2 like the atlas. When you have the ultimate up and running you can do unlimited dashes to get out of combat and flank them for example. Ogre has 1 dash and his ultimate what i saw was a very very strong shield and has more health since that one is a more tank like and slower. Atlas is the middle class.

possibly not. i do fairly well when i'm forced to use them in last titan standing. i generally only get 1-2 kills but a shit load of assists and zero or close to zero deaths.
i use the cannon and take pot shots and retreat when shields are low and always try to only engage enemy titans when numbers favor me or i can get a good flank.

i do feel like i dish out a shit ton of punishment only to see the enemy i'm fighting take it all and keep coming whereas if i'm ever on the receiving end i seem to last only a fraction as long though....

Eh what is your system? I am running everything on max and runs butter smooth playing here with a GTX780 and I7-2600k this beta is pretty optimized from what i have played. It's a fucking titan your sitting in not a ferrari. If your being attacked on all directions..time to move the hell away from it. And if you want to get out of it press E just like they said in the tutorial. After this i am not going back to CoD that series is tired as hell now.

Came back on around 12 est. I haven't tried this morning. I did notice that the central servers got me in games a lot faster. (from nj)

Alright, I'm on the east coast as well, so looks like I'll be able to play some more of the beta tonight (hopefully, the servers don't go down again)

Holy shit.

Going windowed mode and turning v-sync off makes this a much much better experience in terms of performance.

It's night and day. Constant 60fps with everything on high.

At first I didn't like this game, and now I can't stop playing. My wife is even interested in it. She thinks the whole getting into a giant robot thing is pretty cool.

Game is a lot of fun. Pre-ordered it already. Runs great maxed on my GTX 680 and i7 930 with 6GB of RAM.

Btw, Green Man Gaming sent me a $10/euro/pound voucher. got it for 35 euro. which is much better than the 60 euro Origin is charging.
