Titanfall Beta (PC/Xbone) Impressions (No Key Begging/Trading or I will ban you!)

Can you get to the window mode to play? **edit: lol, that sounded dumb... Try this again..

Can you get to the main menu and see "Play"? Sorry for that other questionable question.

Fixed !

Turns out it was running on the Intel graphics card, switched to Nvidia and its working.

I need to run it in low (get about 40fps and its very playable), the game is pretty fun, I can see myself sinking a few hours in it and may purchase it when the price drops.

I was thinking initially that, with the high traversal, this would be better on pad. But...KB/M is a wonder for me believe it or not.

Then I lost connection to the server. :////////

Impressions:

- Gameplay is fast and fluid and "parkour" is very natural. You can feel the CoD roots of the team. Controls great

- I don't really like the squishy feel you have like in CoD, a few shoots and you're dead.

- I think they really nailed the Titan adquisition, no killstreak bullshit allowing every player to get some mecha action..oh wait, they aren't mecha. My bad.

- Have yet to make an opinion of the maps, they seem good but I need more time. I really like the traversal in the game, allows for some cool movements.

- Titan aren't very fun, but maybe I have yet to become a better pilot. I find more useful using auto-pilot and going foot alongside my titan, you and your titan can take a rival titan pretty fast. Actually I see most ppl doing that.

- Balance seems ok for now. I thought I'm a bit worried about the autopistol, didn't see much ppl using it though...

First impressions is that is a very fun game. I think they did a good job allowing less skilled players to able to participate (even just killing grunts) and have fun. I don't think is the best FPS multiplayer game ever, not a revolutionary one, but definetly is fun.

Doesn't run great on a GTX 660. The in game Vsync is screwed so I use the Nvidia control panel Vsync for that. I get constant drops at 1080p to 40/45 on high and even get drops to 50 with everything on Low.

A lot of people who simply don't understand why the bots are in the game. Respawn probably wishing they just put dumb crates there instead now.

They're stuff you mow down to get your titan faster.
In doing so you have to decide if it is worth giving away your position.

They're not there to challenge you. If they did it would break the balance of the game. If they were harder to kill you'd be that much more vulnerable to a pilot running up behind you and snapping your neck while you were distracted. It would drastically slow the pace of the game which would appear to go against everything they're trying to do with this game.

Do yourself a favor. Stop calling them bots. Call them coins or gems or mushrooms or whatever you want from whichever other games you played which had exactly the same sort of mechanic to achieve a power-up state. I can't remember anybody crying about the coins in Super Mario having bad AI.
Yeah, I love the bots, they add a real MOBA element and make you feel powerful.

I know why this comparison is being made (because former IW employees) but I cannot disagree more, the flow/pace of the game is very different, the jump/double jump making it easy to access places like never before, and the variety of things you are capable of doing is way different from your standard run and gun Call of Duty fare.
That's what I mean, though. CoD is bound by its real-world setting. Titanfall is what CoD can be when you can have sci-fi weaponry and parkour and giant fucking robots and whatever else is fun, rather than 'realistic'. It's why I like this way more.

Have you guys seen Titanfall?

Quick update, if anyone's wondering - game runs mostly fine on Core 2 Duo E8400 @3GHz, 4GB RAM and GTX 560 Ti (haven't checked framerates with Afterburner, but I'll update again if and when I check it). Although it stutters, since I put everything on High, and AA on 2x, but it's playable. Gotta turn down few settings and see if that helps with the stuttering, but since I'm weird and crazy, I can play it like this and I will most probably play it like this, without turning down most of the settings.

So, anyways, which store's got the best deal to preorder it on PC?

They're still not fun to play with. I can't tell them from players from a distance and they offer no challenge at all. They're not enjoyable for me.

Maybe they shouldn't be able to kill me but they should be able to weaken my player in some way. Or if ammo wasn't so worthless I could have to make the decision to kill them or not based on if I want a quicker titan or more bullets for the real threat, other players. But there's none of that, it's "oh I see something I'll shoot it" and I end up with way more bot kills than player kills every match.

Pretty fun, but I'm not sure I'll bother getting it. After an hour I really liked some of the stuff it was doing but it was also making me want to play BF4 instead.

Looked OK. I'd say the best way to describe the graphics is 'good enough', it's not going to win any beauty contests but it's fluid and I like the scifi style.

The AI grunts running around were a nuisance at first then not even that. They were just part of the background, only impact they had was to annoy me when I mistakenly thought one was a pilot.

Maybe add another 50 points to attrition. I don't mind the 5-10 min matches.
I just wish the counter to the next game was a little shorter. It doesn't take that long to fiddle with your loadouts/cards.

So do you guys think TItanfall will be a heavy hitter in the MP scene? As in will it be popular for a long time?
Basic gameplay is fun as hell. Depends how much variety there is to the weapons and other titans, and especially the game modes. Hardpoint is way better than basic Attrition. Or would be if my teammates ever paid attention to capturing things.

After many attempts to play the beta last night with constant server issues, I decided to call it a night and try in the morning. I woke up this morning and ran to my Xbox to boot the game up and it finally worked.

I got to play a match before I started my daily morning routines and I had a TON of fun playing it and certainly was not disappointed. Surprisingly I'm not too bad at it also. Preorder justified.

I think that's just a beta thing to populate the lobbies. Now if that's in the release...lol :((( it needs to be cut down in half.

The bots make it feel like a dota to anyone else? Wish the game matches were longer.

It has some nuances towards dota but i like it. Seeing different stuff everytime when your in a building for example. Others are helping there buddy's or another having a struggle with a spectre. It adds something different and that is good.

Just hit 50 matches.

Smart Pistol Thoughts:
I have a lot of kills with the smart pistol but after using the carbine for about an hour I now realize I was gimping myself A LOT and its already on its way to take over the smart pistol as my post used weapon.

General:
Game is fun as hell, its fast and fluid and its pretty easy to get in the zone. dropping a few humans and grunts and then calling in your titan and wrecking everything feels amazing, and the Titan v Titan combat is fun too and its always fun to trap one of them in a corner shot the other one a lot with a damage booster on and then have your Titan's nuke go off while your safe in the air and you just took out two titans.

Movement is also amazing its extremely easy to get from point A to B with no problems.

Love the game!

Played for the first time this morning.

Its a system seller. Should have ponied the cash and made this Xbone exclusive.

Game is every bit as good as the hype leads you to believe; its visceral, satisfying and more importantly, very fun.

Not sure why people are complaining about the AI.

They are farm material, the creep so to speak. They aren't bots.

Yup. But tired of the arguments, some just think of them as "bots" and run with this "bahh bots are dumb" thing withour trying to understand the flow of the game. I might say Grunts and Spectres could be important in competitive matches.

Yeah, I like the bots. It gives lesser-skilled players something to help them gain experience without feeling frustrated by higher-skilled players, thus allowing everyone in the match to have fun. I think it's a great idea.

I feel like the bots are kind of pointless other than to make the large maps feel less empty because of the low player count.

Should have been 16 player with a limit on 6 titans a side or something.

Does the "insane" texture option really require a 3GB card? I have a 2GB 670, would it work?

They are there to feed your Titan time, and Damage Booster time. And yes to make the maps feel less empty. It still works great for what it is.

I think I was playing with you yesterday morning. Fun games.

I don't like the how visually similar the grunts are to players and how many of them there are.

It's not fun to kill defenseless grunts, it is fun to kill other players. When the creeps kills are often 2:1 to player killers, I'm disappointed

They become a lot more important when you get a burn card that disguises you as a spectre. Walk around destroying people when they think you are a robot

I like it, makes the battles feel bigger.

After having a chance to play a fair bit, I am of the opinion now that burn cards shouldn't be there. Their entire purpose is to just give players a leg up and offer nothing to the overall experience.

I hope for titanfall 2 when they don't have to worry about a 360 version they ditch the bots in favor of more players. Bots are only negative to me in an otherwise amazibg game.
