Are you happy with Smash Bros 4's graphics?

The console T6 was inferior to the arcade T6. Tekken 6 was regardless beautiful but you can't really compare that sort of realistic artstyle to the more colorful Smash Bros.

And the same team that made Tekken 6 is helping with Smash Bros. 4, FYI.

This makes me remember how much I hate Tekkens hit effects. Ever since PS1/2 days. That red thing or whatever it is. I realize that it's more "realistic" so they can't go as crazy as Smash with colorful hit effects, but stilll......ugh.

Does anyone have that GIF of Sonic vs. Luigi? That had some really nice ones. Since overall graphics are pretty debateable, I think everyone could agree with the improvement of hit effects.

EDIT:

This'll do. Look at the hit effects for the uppercut and Megaman's back air. For me, it matters a lot in a fighting game.

Not sure I'm feeling Bowser's upright fighting stance to be honest.

I think it looks excellent, especially with the use of effects.

The personality of the characters really shines through as well.

By all this, I mean the Wii U version but the 3DS version isn't bad at all visually.

You'd be hard-pressed to make me believe that the game is built from the ground up. Just compare Marth from Brawl and SSB4, the models look close to identical.

Different team, but not from the ground up.

And, being from a different team, some things will just be different rather than better. Like the art style. It's a different direction.

the game is made from the ground up. lol.

what kind of nonsense is this?

My only proBlem with it is that these threads aren't about how nice a game looks, but how absolutely god awful it is that a developer have a single bad texture stuck in a corner that most people won't ever look at or notice.
I'd much rather these threads be about the real meat and potatoes of what matters, which is how clean and beautiful this art style is, and holy cow they squeezed it into 1080p 60fps.

It's true that is beautiful for the most part, but it's also true that they are reusing Wii assets for some stages, which include low resolution textures. And not just in a corner where you won't see it, but the entire stage. That kind of thing clashes big time.

Highly doubt it'll be 1080p/60fps. I know they've said it will be, but I'm having a hard time understand how it's possible. Wii U isn't really capable.

Either way, the game looks great. Much more colorful than Brawl, which helps.

Honestly, graphics have never been a selling point for me. The smash series has never been a realistic looking series, I've never gone "Wow those background bricks look gorgeous" and whatnot. For what it is, I think the graphics do their job well and it looks like we'll be getting more of a Melee feeling than Brawl, so I'm down for this.

They are considerably less detailed. To me that's worse.

more focus on primary colors, less focus on photorealism like mario's denim jeans. even with that, mario still looks more detailed than he does in most games. i prefer the more cartoony look.

Then you can't know what those words mean.

they borrow assets like the skyward sword stage from other games, but as far as the character models, they've all been redone. and the animations have been touched up or improved.

EDIT: looking at sonic or bowser is all the proof you need. the marth model is a different one, nice try though.

pretty sakurai even mentioned the 3ds version being made from scratch.

Not from scratch, then?

"New and improved"? Sure. But it's certainly not "from scratch".

It looks really good. I'm more impressed with the 3DS version though. My biggest disappointment with the graphics is that they went with the TP designs for Zelda and Link rather than the SS designs... Kinda bugs me, because characters used to always be based off their most recent appearance.

Looking at some of the supposed in game shots posted by JoeM86
I think 1080P/60fps is achieavable..Maybe they could implement some form of dynamic resolution to maintain 60fps when things get a bit too hectic.
I mean these don't exactly look too graphically demanding.

I'm satisfied with it

I think it looks fantastic personally, and I am happy they're moving away from that "realism" thing they had going on with Brawl

3DS Version looks fantastic too

I just want to play it

I love the graphics. Color palette/textures/art style
although I kind of miss the textures on the Mario Bros.' overalls from Brawl, lol
, animations (those faces), etc. are just wonderful.

Come the fuck on, Mario's overall's in brawl were flat out ugly.

edit:

screenshot_57516_thumb_wide930.jpg

Mario's a weird one for me. I LOVE the facial expressions he has going on here, but the overall textures are such a downgrade. Maybe I'm too used to the detail in Melee/Brawl? It probably won't matter when the game comes out, I guess.

you can choose to be willfully ignorant, that's on you.

clearly the same model.

:lol

No, you haven't earned that lol.

You have no idea what "from scratch" means. Willfully ignorant of what it means, perhaps.

I never said there weren't improved or changed models. But you did say that the game was built from scratch. Leave the goalposts where they were.

Clearly a model created from scratch, right? With the same animations and animation loops? That can be posed in the exact same way? NOPE.

I'm confused by the from scratch thing going on....

Should a sequel be made completely from scratch or something? Why does it matter?
Who cares?

I'm not convinced any game is made competely "from scratch" nowadays. If you have assets, even from other series, use them.

Making it "from scratch" would make the game take like 10 years to make.
"Mario needs a fire ball attack."
"Should we base it off of Brawl's?"
"Nah, trash it. Make it from scratch. In fact, trash every Mario animation ever. Just delete everything from every character. We'll do all it again. We'll do it live."
"..."

This makes no sense to me.
(And isn't every game that used the Unreal Engine 3 or any engine not made from scratch? Is any game made form scratch period?)

Exactly. I don't understand why SpinDasher brought it up as a defense for the graphics. "From scratch" or even moderately "from scratch" isn't a common thing, and certainly doesn't apply to Smash 4.

It looks really flat and the anatomy of the characters can look really weird at times.

Color, consistency, and effects are nice though. I just wish they would stop "faking" folds and shadows (like Toon Link's hat for example) with textures.

edit: Also DK's fur looks disgusting.

Maybe the wrong words were being used between you two. Were you originally talking about the models?

Maybe it stemmed from people saying the models were just uprezzed, rather than "from scratch"

But that just means, "Were they uprezzed or actually redrawn/redesigned?"
If that's the question, then yes, they were all clearly redesigned, even Pikachu.

But not Kirby doe. :D

i never said that every bit of the wii u version was from scratch. i acknowledged that assets have to be reused, especially when bringing certain stages in and whatnot. that said, if you're throwing around the words "texture pack." i think you're just choosing to ignore the improvements. not to say that someone can't think the game doesn't look all that great, but there are obvious improvements and NEWLY redone character models.. what more can a person want them to do.. ?

no different from you refuting any polygonal differences in the marth model really. whether or not it's "from scratch", doesn't make your texture pack comments any better. lucario, ddd, sonic, samus, marth, zelda, bowser, donkey kong, and so on all have noticeably improved models. you can continue to ignore it if you choose too. i've seen brawl in hd w/the hd texture packs on pc, and far away in motion it looks great- brawl is still a good looking game. but i wouldn't say it matches this game in visual fidelity. my mistake for the from scratch or ground up comments, but im done having this argument- since clearly we are seeing two different things.

It's looks okay, still reminds me of Brawl on Dolphin with better aesthetics. 1080p/60fps is nice though, can't complain about that.

This game simply looks beautiful. I love the vibrant colors. I think visually this game will stand the test of time as well as, if not better, then Melee.

You're done having the argument because you didn't have a coherent one to begin with.

i don't think it's a downgrade in textures at all. it's a difference in styles, with ssbb going for a more real denim look for mario's overalls, but i much prefer ssb4 style mario. it's more in line with his classic appearance.

I am. First of all models are just beautiful. I really have to appreciate the effort they put even into assist trophies. Art style is vibrant and colorful and just miles better what Brawl had. Lighting is spectacular too. This 1080p @ 60FPS on Wii U and I think it truly is something extraordinary.

Why does every game need to be bleeding edge to look good?

.....fuck, I still think that a lot of snes games look good.

Right, here you go (actually saw some images in the press site that I had never seen before. Going to compile them and post them in the Smash Bros thread later)

1920x1080. No signs of up-ressing. All in-game shots as we know that is how Sakurai has been doing them.

Awesome, those look great.

Where'd you find them at?

Yeah, it was just the wording. The characters are definitely not upressed, and a lot of things are redesigned.

I am wondering if people's movesets will be changed more than what's been shown so far...

EDIT:
Can someone show me the quote where Sakurai said 1080p? With a zoomed out hectic fighting game with 4 fighters/AI going at 60 fps, I really don't see it being 1080p. I'm not sure it needs to either.

You're done having the argument because you didn't have a coherent one to begin with.

im done having it because i don't see the point.

i think this looks far better than brawl on wii.

you think brawl with texture packs in hd rivals this game.

and right now you're just trying to keep the argument going by coming off as a dick.

you win then. *shrugs*

yea, i misused it. my bad.

initially reading his comments he made it sound like they just uploaded the brawl models and added new textures which isn't the case.

edit: bowser actually looks useful in this one, and im hoping sakurai and company make some surprise changes to some veterans before release. i doubt it though.
