The Grid system (I'm assuming you mean 4-directional movement) is still there. Just use the D-Pad to move instead of the Circle Pad. You can now also move in 8-directions.

X/Y is still grid base, it just gives you the illusion it isn't

I dont know, but every day it was dramatically increasing except today. Today was actually slightly lower than yesterday on average (i think). I hope that doesnt mean we've already peaked. I guess people are just waiting for something interesting to happen, considering today all we've done is grind, screw around with a pc, and teach drowzee psychic.
