I'm intrigued, could you elaborate? It's not the first time I hear Grundy's notable as far as grapplers go.
Its been a while since I played Injustice, so some of this might have changed. Grundy is too elaborate to explain, but I'll try my best.
Grundy's Tools:
- A full screen special move that makes zombie hands come out from under the opponent's current position. Normal version is whatever (knocks down). Ex version is fast and on hit, ENSNARES THEM IN POSITION FOR LIKE 5 seconds. This one move solves what is almost every grappler's weakness (getting in). Can be used in combos for loco damage.
- Its not his only 'getting in' move though. Grundy also has a walking grab (think gief's suplex) which has super armor, and can be cancelled mid animation without using any meter. So he can just armor-walk through your puny projectiles. On landing the grab, Grundy headbutts them and knocks 'em down. EXing this move does an extra throw, and doesn't let them stand back up for like 3 seconds, so you have 3 full seconds of setup/positioning/oki time.
- An overhead special that does a ground bounce on EX.
- An anti-air grap similar to Abel's grab from SF4.
- Another grab special that throws them high into the air to the other side, leading to a full combo. You can use this when cornered to throw them into the corner.
- Rot. If you've played Dota, this is like Pudge's rot. Grundy activated a stench around him, that damages the opponent if they stand close to him. If you activate rot before a combo, you're looking at like 10% extra damage.
- But the creme de la creme of Grundy is his trait, the chain grab. A single press of a button leads to grundy grabbing the opponent. Upon activation, you can go into one of three chains, each doing different grabs and leading to different positioning. But more importantly, each of these chains give Grundy something in return. IIRC they are:
Power Chain - Doing this chain is like going into Makoto's Tanden Renki. Everything you do does more damage once you are in power more. That 36% combo you learnt now does 45% in power mode.
Health Chain - The opposite of the power chain. Makes the opponents hits and combos do less damage to Grundy. I don't use this much.
Defense Chain - My favorite. Makes you take like no chip damage. A large part of what made Grundy fun was chain grabbing Deathstroke scrubs, ending in the defense chain, then just turtling full screen away. After 60 seconds of spamming guns and swords, you could just taste the frustration from them.
These chain effects last until you use another chain grab or the end of the match.
- d+2
Probably the most bullshit Grundy move wasn't even a special or super. Grundy's d+2 is a sick anti air that reduced his hitbox, hit a huge vertical range, and led to easy 50% combos.
You really need to play the hero to appreciate how all this fit into combos and setups. Grundy made me feel empowered like no other grappler did. Every anti-air, every swamp hands, every chain grab just made me snowball and do like 40-50% damage at least. Here's a combo I made in the early days of Injustice. There's better tech available but this shows almost every Grundy special used in a combo.

I sincerely feel that Grundy's the best designed grappler in fighting games. Unfortunately some of the other fighters in Injustice aren't so well designed, and the games moderate following ensures that most people don't know what an awesome character Grundy was.
