Yakuza Ishin PS4 1080p Launch Trailer

I wish Sega would have Atlus bring over the entire series for PC and next gen consoles. 1 and 2 are easily two of my all time favorite games, but I fell out of touch with the series.

I have a friend that has said similar, and he thinks as highly of 1 and 2 as me. High praise. What about 3? Can it be skipped, or is it still essential story-wise?

3 can sort of be skipped. 3 is good because of the change of pace, Okinawa and everything : but it drags on. The orphanage is really dull and the story really tries too hard (american twin brother coming out of nowhere, etc)

the most advance of 3 were technicals for most parts. You can skip 3. It's the weakest to me of the 4 games.

4 is really outstanding. Much more ambitious, amazing characters (they all give great insight of social aspect of modern japan and have really good arcs and good main side quests) and the last part, where you get to finally play Kiryu just makes him even more badass just has when you finally see Snake in MGS2, you waited for him that long and now he's there.

Skip 3. Get on 4. Get your dose of Yakuza and weep with us because we'll probably never had 5 nor Ishin, so go and play the best and last Yakuza there is for us.

There will be a PS4 demo for this coming up tomorrow on the JP store.
My first import download has been decided!

I put a little Kenzan! vs Ishin 1080p screenshot comparison together to see how much has changed. Obviously Kenzan! didn't turn out anywhere near 1080p res and Ishin isn't developed first and foremost as a PS4 game.

Textures, shading, especially on clothing and NPCs have improved greatly. Model geometry isn't much better but NPC's are better proportioned :p

Depth of field is more precise and refined with a slight bokeh and used for foreground and background unfocus simultaneously.

They haven't discovered the joys of anisotropic filtering but you do finally get a true 1920x1080 image with half decent AA and 60fps! I suspect Kenzan was a raw 1024x768 like Yakuza 3.

Great great post ! Thank you.

Obviouly huge gap in NPC texture and material clothes. Big bag too on hair and character modeling.

Geometry isn't that better but it doesn't need to as far as the environement we've seen as it's pretty simple and doesn't feel dated. I don't see the need for improvement so far on that point.

hey no port begging!

But it is odd that Sega has seemingly too much money to keep this as a platform exclusive game in Japan only. Especially with the drought of new games for the PS4 in general.

I would think now would be the perfect time to sell this in the west BEFORE we have 400+ games to choose from and this would be lost in the store shelves.

With just sharper skin textures, stronger AA and AF I think it would look mostly polished and satisfying, if not entirely contemporary.

Funny how Ryoma's finger nails are so well textured compared to the rest of his hand.

I'd snatch Yakuza 5 in this state if SEGA or someone would localise it, though!

Damn, was hoping this would have gone up on PSN at midnight Japan time. Still wasn't available when I checked.

Knowing Sega, they will twiddle their thumbs before localizing, such that the game doesn't arrive until the end of the year or early next year when next gen is in full swing and this game will face a ton of competition and get less exposure. That's if they bother at all.

If they can't get this out before July/early August they shouldn't even bother IMO. They need to release it ASAP while PS4 folks are hungry for new games and don't have a lot to choose from.

It's annoying that it seems to be the only demo/full game that isn't available on JPSN right now. You can grab the demos for FIFA, Strider etc., but clicking on the Ishin image does nothing because it isn't uploaded. The Sega section of the store also only lists 3 PV's as being available for Ishin.

I've been refreshing the web store...

At least the PS4 section is visible now.

Hmm... the PS3 version says "Disc Only." Then again, it seems like most Japanese PS3 games don't have a digital version. Hopefully Sony has a policy in Japan, too, that all games must be sold digitally.

Would anyone be interested in stream of me bumbling through the PS4 version?

My Japanese is strictly limited to the phrase "I don't speak Japanese" so I could use help from the stream chat.

I'd probably do worse than the Twitch-Pokemon stream but it might be entertaining.

I expect to have the game in the next week.

Yay! Just going to buy the full version.

8600 Yen... GOT DAMN. Like 2000 Yen cheaper on Amazon for the physical edition :/

Oh well, screw waiting for (and paying a premium for) International shipping.

Thats why generally unless you have to never buy digital in Japan for new stuff as you will get hit with a price near to or the exact SRP. Last resort or those who have money to blow and dont want to wait.

Yeah, I don't live in Japan anymore, so outside of business trips and visits, digital is generally my best option unless I'm ordering a bunch of other stuff anyway. The price difference is usually killed by the shipping cost.

Anyway, I love how you can buy stuff from the web version of the PSN store and have it start downloading on your PS4 at home. Going to jump in to this as soon as I get home.

Looks like the full version is 22.2 GB.

Hmm....

Slightly better character model
Better textures
More realistic color palette
Better resolution (obvs)
Nice lighting effect

That's it, I guess. I hope they can improve the character model even more but maybe it's their intention to keep it stylistic to prevent uncanny valley.

The whole web integration is fantastic isnt it? Makes a lot of shit easier these days thats for sure.

You forgot better framerate.

*Edit

I think the character model issue that folks are talking about they are mistaking non main characters due to the fact those obviously have a lot less work put into them than the main ones. Which is something present in pretty much all games these days. Its more of a budget / development schedule related thing than anything.

It probably was posted many times over, but I'm too looking forward to never being able to play it :(

trailer is manly overload (><)

Actually you might have the chance considering one reason why the west didnt get Y5 yet is due to they had started development of Ishin right after 5. That was what Nagoshi had said in an interview I do believe.

Considering the sales numbers in the West of the PS4 most def Sega will want to get it out there to take advantage of the situation and Sony am sure will want to push them to do so considering its an exclusive title which Sony does need more of in the West.

The big plus for Sega is that the game is a standalone story so you dont need any previous knowledge of the series so attracting new customers should not be problem, then it brings in new fans who will buy the other previous titles.

After Ishin has launched then perhaps they would consider working on 5 depending on how Ishin does and release that next. After that consider about the HD edition for 1 & 2 for a digital release.

At least thats the most logical plan of attack anyways, but we all know logic is one thing Sega has been lacking lately.

I like your plan, now we only need to convince Sega...

i bet subtitling it wont cost as much and any sales in the west even if its PSN only will just get them extra profits we don't need some cheesy dubs.

No its still expensive due to how much text there is, work required to fit it into all aspects of the game, licensing etc.

There is a lot more to localization than just "english text".

Sure its less work than trying to stuff dubs into the game, which is something they have not done since the terrible ones with the first title anyways. But it by no means that its going to be cheap, since there is a lot of text within these games.

Is the PS3 version of the demo out?

Yes to the PS3 and PS4 on JPSN

Ok but still i think it can have enough sales that it will still be profitable to do the subtitles

Still sucks how PSN is fragmented wish we could try these demos out even if its in Japanese

Ishin looks pretty good, but it could use some skin translucency.

Honeslty, advertising is what killed this series in the west, I've loved this series since playing it, but didn't even know about it until seeing people mention it online

Hmmm... It's so weird going back to having so much unvoiced dialog.

And makes it so hard >_<

Damn here I was thinking it would be LIke 5,000 YEN for this but it's way more at 8,600, that's a lot even for digital...

Need this game though.

Crazy how it's more expensive than even the Koei Tecmo games on the store.

Yea definitely; I'm not familiar with the pricing of the JPN store all that much, but I suppose if I imported it'd still be more. However, I will end up having to buy 10,000 YEN digital code which is $60 more than I want to spend.

Will the price lower at any point on the store? Is there a chance for that?

Highly unlikely before any kind of "The Best" re-release.

Then again, they may do sales. Historically, Japan hasn't been big on digital sales, though.

That's what I figured; I may take the dive. I'll have a little extra to spend on the store, and a freakin' PS4 Yakuza game (though I'll have trouble progressing through it.)

Still. It's Yakuza.
