Jaime Alexander as Sif deserves the entire next movie, they should kill Jane off for sure. Jaime actually reads Journey into Mystery (she likes comics) and Beta Ray Bill is one of her favorite characters. Plus she's way more beautiful than Portman, my opinion. Thor x Sif forever.
Loki is well cast. Every time I see him I want to punch his smug smartass face. I hope I never meet the actor because I don't think I'll be able to control myself.
I saw the movie the other day and it was OK, better than the first, but it has very bland writing, it could easily be much better with some competent writers. Every human character was pointless and a waste of screen time and the action was mostly forgettable, it did have a very nice artistic direction at times and played the fantastic card well, they should have capitalized more on it. And on Sif.
I finally saw it the other day. T'was okay I guess, though I think I liked the first Thor better.
Loki was, of course, the best part. Thor was cool, but I don't feel like he had very many cool scenes. I thought for sure that
Natalie Portman (who was basically just a prop for the entire movie) was going to die because I remembered reading that she didn't want to do the movie and that she wanted out of her contract (or something to that effect) so the fact that she's still alive at the end and that she's still dating Thor sort of baffles me.
I wonder if they'll just write her out of Thor 3 or maybe she'll reprise her role after all?
The rest of the cast were cardboard cutouts and I'm not even sure if I was supposed to care about them. I guess it was sort of sad when
Thor's mom died.
I though the plot was extremely clunky.
Jane randomly stumbles upon a portal that randomly teleports her to the super secret location where the super evil super weapon is being held and then she gets infected or something and then Thor comes down and she slaps him (lolsofunny) and then he takes her to his realm where the monsters try to kidnap her and...yeah.
Really clunky and dumb.
And the villain was as generic and sterotypical as they come. "I want the super weapon so I can destroy/rule the universe!!!" Blah blah blah boring
I also didn't like the action very much. A lot of it is just random CGI people/monsters crashing into each other and none of it is exciting or interesting because none of it means anything.
I really really liked the design of the dark elves though. Very striking and sinister looking. Much better than the designs of the Chitauri, which looked generic and horrible.
Updated rankings:
Iron Man > The Avengers > The Incredible Hulk > Thor > Thor: The Dark World > Iron Man 3 > Captain America: The First Avenger > Iron Man 2
The villains were forgettable but they did what they had to do. Movie was definitely a step up from the original, humor wasn't hamfisted or cheesy, and Loki stole the show. Instantly became one of my favorite Marvel movies, can't wait to see Avengers 2 and Thor 3 now.
So many coincidences in the movie: Jane being the one to find the aether, Jane and Erick just happen to bump into Thor as he returns from a subway ride to fight, the teleporting birds they witness that no one else seems to see... Eh.
But it was pretty entertaining. A shame SHEILD didn't show up if even in a tiny capacity (or at least a cameo from AOS).
I think a large part of Thor being so successful is that Hemsworth is literally as close to perfect a Thor as one could ever dream of having. But you're right, he hasn't had anything especially brilliant to do so far.
I feel it also has a good deal to do with Loki. Perfectly cast and acted. Plus a villain that spans multiple movies. Thor 2 I am sure also got a lot of business from avenger viewers who may not have seen Thor 1.
The whole "she stumbles into a portal to the superweapon" thing wasn't that much of a stretch for me since, like, her research was about tracking down spatial anomalies like that. Its not like she fell into it while walking back from the grocery store.
Film would have benefited from a simpler, tidier plot. It's too convoluted with the new things they're introducing and the way the storyline has to tie itself into knots and riddle itself with silly coincidences to make everything work.

Amazingly casted. His fan girls (and fan boy) base probably rivals Thor, which is saying a lot when you got that gorgeous specimen Chris Helmsworth playing him.

This movie is another movie you can add to the category of "Blockbusters were the the end-battle isn't very engaging because you don't fear the enemy".
I actually felt sorry for Malekith, he didn't feel like the biggest threat, he had a pretty tragic background and was almost always at a disadvantage, while Thor was pretty passive in his heroicism. No real drama or tension.
My only real problem with the movie is not enough of Thor's crew. They've got some really good actors in those roles, and they're even more squandered her than in the first movie.
My only problem with the Thor films is the overuse of the human characters no on cares about. Marvel needs to realize people want to see these films to watch gods kicking ass and not some lame humans being lame.
Midgard shouldn't appear in the third film. More Sif and the Warriors Three please. Is that so much to ask?

I would like Starz to make a Sif series where there's good fight choreography and she gets naked once or twice an episode.... basically Spartacus, but hot female lead.
This would be my show, man.
Anyway, back to topic... movie was alright. Pretty dumb, occasionally fun.
I watched the movie yesterday. I think I liked it more than the first one but it wasn't really great. Great action scenes and Loki saved the movie. After The Avengers I really love Loki. One of the best characters that can be both sympathetic and be hated. Also...
I can't believe that I fell for Loki's trick and for a moment I actually thought he died. Heh...
Overall, it wasn't a bad movie, it was really funny and ended with two great twists.
I think i'd rather have a movie, tv series or something starring her as Sif even over a near perfect Wonder Woman movie(and thats as someone who greatly prefers WW)
She just seems so perfect and badass yet gets 5 seconds of screentime.
