Ever17 might be coming to Steam ? (Spotted in Steam DB)

It looks like Steam might get more visual novels in the near future, but this one, I heard a lot of good things about this one, especially because it's from Kotaro Uchikoshi, the man behind 999 and VLR.

I dunno how reliable is SteamDB, but there it is:
http://steamdb.info/app/200090/

(I haven't seen a thread about this yet... so I don't know if it's something known...)

omgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomg GAAAAAAH.

Please, let it be true. Please. Please.

For those who don't know : Kotarou Uchikoshi (Director of 999 and Virtue's Last Reward) worked on that game.

you sort of are so late with it, it's called ancient history.
I still hope it'll come besides being there forever.

I would be on that shit day 1.

I also want the entire Infinity trilogy to get an official localization, but I'm not holding my breath there.

Yup, looks like it's a bit old but.... I hope it's true. Damn, I'd buy it Day 1, and full price (50€). I don't care :p

Always wanted to played it, but heard it needed multiple playthroughs to get to true end and doesn't have text skip option. Is it worth it? I loved 999 and VLR.

Shit has been sitting in the DB for ages. I hope they are still planning on bringing it over though. Same with Steins Gate if that ever falls through. Since VNs are doing pretty well on Steam. Go Go Nippon sold 10K in it's first week which is the most sales of any of mangagamers.com's titles.

It'd be great if it actually came out on it. It's Uchikoshi's best work, even if he's already recycled much of it for Zero Escape.

It has a text skip option. It's better than 999 and VLR, though maybe some of the impact will be lost because he reused a lot of stuff for those games.

I would buy 5 copies.

The twists shocked me because they were set up and hinted at so much better than 999 or VLR. It makes 999's "oh by the way have you heard about this thing called
the Morphogenetic Field
?" and VLR's
"You senile old fuck!"
seem laughably bad and predictable. Some of the ideas are similar though, yeah.

Yup. The low number of Visual Novels on Steam is depressing... then again, most of them aren't even translated (Key.... ;__;), so that's not really surprising.

Pretty much all of Key's stuff has been translated, they just don't license their VNs for western release.

Yessssssssssssssssss.
This would be the first chapter of the series right?
How is the translation for this game, as good as AKSYS and NISA's translatins on VNs?

I know it's not the biggest deal for good VNs, since it isn't a large part of them, but it still makes me sad that most of the VNs showing up on Steam will be censored versions.

Timing's kind of interesting with Aksys's survey. And hell, if we can't (yet) get a follow up to VLR then this may well do in the interim.

Localised would've been a better word, because you're right.

Pretty sure the 1st chapter in the series is Never7 (and Remember11 comes after Ever17).

It seems Cyberfront was going to put this on Steam but never got around to it. If that name sounds familiar it's because the company went belly-up at the end of 2013, so a Steam release isn't happening unless one of the other publishers involved with the game's distribution pick up where Cyberfront left off or the devs self-publish.

Shame this isn't actual news, this is the holy grail of Uchikoshi's work, and certainly his magnum opus.

If only it were that easy, now is the absolute perfect time for Aksys to do a Kickstarter. Everyone can spend their zero escape sorrow dollars on something productive.

Who even owns the rights to it now? The company that bought out KID's IPs has shutdown too.

The app is linked to CyberFront in the database, which has been shut down last year as you have mentioned, so yeah. It doesn't look good after all!

Of course, in an ideal world Aksys bought the rights, re-localizes the title and will release it as Zero Escape: Ever 17. Sadly, I don't think we're living in that ideal world.

All of those updates are just due to Valve's housekeeping. The game was never on the cusp of release.

How do you know that?
Edit: Well, that wasn't planned. :lol

Yeah this is the answer as far as I can tell as well unfortunately. It's listed under "Cyberfront comp" as in the collection of games published by Cyberfront and they don't exist anymore. Updates in the Steam database don't necessarily come from the publisher and there are no updates in the database that were anything like files being tested or uploaded or anything. I would love for it to come to Steam though. Does anyone have any idea who has the rights to it at the moment? It might not be anyone at all I guess... It would be nice to link them this thread and show there's interest though.

Well, most obviously I'd point to the app having nothing but the section_type flag attached to it as well as it not having any public subs, but also the items in the history tab match up with those of other apps that are no longer maintained, such as Stalin vs Martians:

so a Steam release isn't happening unless one of the other publishers involved with the game's distribution pick up where Cyberfront left off or the devs self-publish.

Devs are long dead as well, KID filed for bankruptcy in 2006.

Updates to the Steam database as shown on steamdb.info don't mean anything unless there's content being added or changed. In this case no content was ever added or any details about the game even uploaded to the Steam database. Sometimes a change in the Steam database means everything gets an 'update' but the specific content in the database hasn't changed. See http://steamdb.info/faq/#changenumber for more information. The Steam database can be pretty confusing, sometimes the reasons for things changing isn't always clear.

We had this party crashed and ruined. :(

I still hope it'll come eventually, you can't take that from me!

Looks like CyberFront was owned by Kaga Electronics at the time they were dissolved. I guess they may still own the IP's that CyberFront had control of but they don't currently have any video game businesses (or so it would seem from a very limited amount of searching) so if that's the case things don't look good.
