That's my point. Something SHOULD have changed.

It's clear that announcing the Steam Machine and then shrouding it in secrecy until they reveal a ghastly price looks ridiculous. By at least giving it another round of media coverage, maybe the excitement around this thing wouldn't have tanked as hard.

You forget the inevitable steam store/client crashing the moment they announce a pre-order lineup, gotta plan that accordingly.

Yeah it's a really weird way to launch a new console. Makes you wonder just how much time, money and effort Valve is really putting into this.

I also wonder if Valve was blindsided by the current RAM crisis? Sony and Nintendo have long standing contracts with manufacturers and they "lock in" their new hardware a year before.
