She's 100% right about Outlast.

It really has no bearing on the conversation of the Watch_Dogs downgrade. It has nothing to do with anything. It's a trivial statement that is just going to give her more needless headaches and I'm not sure that's good to do in an already bad environment.

At least she is right about Outlast.

Calm the fuck down, GAF. Don't make the girl lose her job because you're mad at a game.

She has the right to say whatever she wants on Twitter, and she didn't even say anything wrong.

I think it's fine to discuss what Ubi PR is saying and if we disagree with it.

That said, I wish they wouldn't throw her under the bus completely and I hope people don't start blowing up on Twitter.

Agreed. Everyone's entitled to their opinion. She needs to be more self-aware in regards to what she puts on Twitter ... really social media in general. I mean, her job is public relations after all. Just not a good look.

It doesn't matter if it was or wasn't, she's official PR for a company, you don't slate another games graphics publicly on a PR account.
Yes, it's not the right thing to say, but I don't think we should berate her to the point of being fired like some people here seem ready to do. That kind of shit makes me sick to my stomach, to be honest.

That's true, yeah.
The trailer doesn't look anywhere near like the E3 2012 reveal either, though, and I find it very hard to believe Ubisoft would give out b-roll footage of the last-gen version. Hell, except for the Aisha Tyler trailer they haven't shown the last-gen versions yet, not even to journalists. Why include scenes of it in b-roll footage that'll get used by magazines for their video previews?

I'm just waiting to I see more of a game(trailer wise) before I judge it. One video claiming to be the PS4 version won't make me decide if Ubi have downgraded WD or not. Isn't there a Sony game play trailer of it soon?

Well, it's a statement saying gameplay trumps graphics, really. Weird of a Ubi PR person to say, but it is what it is.

Public relations and event manager.

She's doing her job...

I also feel for them. But as said no one forced them to oversell the game way back in 2012. They can so rectify the situation by putting out more media showing why we might be wrong.

Got a feeling it'll be going into lockdown mode soon.
It was already in lockdown mode after the delay :S

But yeah Im'ma just keep saying, lots of overreactions in this thread. Especially over a game's looks.

Far Cry 3 was an excellent game, though, and it still looked good despite failing to match the original concept demo.

It really isn't, personal opinion and all that. The entire second island felt like a waste, the main mission variety wasn't varied nearly enough nor was there enough diversity with locales on the island itself. Climbing all the weapon towers and binge hunting animals for a couple hours to upgrade everything made the game a cake walk.

Really middling overall.

To be fair she is doing absolute PR no-nos. Not Adam Orth level but it's still the kind of stuff you shouldn't say.

Half the problem in this industry is people having to sugar coat their opinions or just plain bullshitting to avoid upsetting someone.

Outlast is a great game that is fugly as well. Simple fact (love the game personally).

I like a bit of real talk in my PR, what she said wasn't even offensive and definitely doesn't warrant any kind of backlash although it's a great excuse for the no gifs so I'm not complaining.

OT I don't think WDs looks all that bad but it's certainly a disappointment.

Is that gif the only comparison or is there another one? Because if that's the only proof of a downgrade this thread is just ridiculous.

would love to be a fly on the wall in these meetings. Either the lighting problems is a bug, design change (game is too grim, lets make it brighter!), or late game requirement to get the games to perform well on the new systems.

Anyhow, lighting issues don't make or break a game for me as long as the player animations still look mostly alright... which atm they still do, but who knows what big downgrades will happen in the next few months!

Well, I was replying to a conversation thread that started from this:

in which case we would have a universe in which Ubisoft does not release PC ports that are utter shit.

In reality though, I guess you're right in saying that we would probably require better rigs.

Having said that, I've got a GTX 670 from 2 years back and it still runs Assassin's Creed 4 much, much better than either of the next-gen consoles could, and at the same time allowing the game to much better. I don't think the $150 card in question (a 750 Ti) is much worse than a GTX 670, so I'm not sure how badly PC gamers will be hit by Ubisoft's shitty PC ports

Ah, that makes sense. Yeah, I was just curious. It sounds like you're good to go, though!

Not as graphically impressive as E3 reveal = game having awful graphics?

Is that what the thread is saying?

Nope, it is saying that the graphics are hugely off the target footage and even PS4 footage previously shown.

Had this been the very first footage of the game we would have said it looks 'ok'.

Not surprised. This type of practice is still common. Look at Deep Down also.

AMAZING graphics in the first e3 trailer. Sub-par current gen level graphics in real time demo.

Happens all the time. Not a big deal. Anyone who thinks it is inflammatory to say Outlast has crappy visuals is simply looking for a fight. It is a non-issue.

You ask for them to lose the PR speak, and when they do you throw them to the wolves. Time and time again.

Putting "real talk" in PR is the reason Adam Orth got fired. You toe the company line as PR or you get shitcanned.

What Orth said and what this person is saying aren't on the same level, mind you, but slamming another person's game on an official company Twitter is not good for business (especially since Ubi is in damage control mode right now). They don't want a manufactured controversy on top of an actual controversy.

It's a poorly crafted statement that says gameplay trumps graphics from a PR account that is currently being lambasted for lackluster graphics. It's not a very good response at all.

She's not wrong in her facts, but that doesn't make it a good response. It's like your wife asking you if she looks fat and responding with, "Well statistically, you have less body fat than 40% of women and I think your personality is what shines through!"

That may be true, but it that doesn't make it smart.

Yup. Part of why everyone in this industry is made of plastic is the fact that even consumers are way too sensitive about everything.

There are million ways you can word it, like "Super Mario 64 looks outdated by today's standards yet it's still fun!" or just leave it at that and don't respond to the Twitter users comment. You don't need to shit on a indie game made by a few folks to prove your point.

I'm getting it on the
Wii U
it was where I first saw it and made me think oh shit. Wii U is a serious player. Other then that, my friend is getting it on PC and we share steam accounts so all is not lose if it turns out not looking like that

1 nothing was slammed, she said it was a good game.

2 Outlast looks like crap on my PS4.

3 has no effect on business.

You can look carefully at polycount in faces and clothes and skin and fabric shaders. Please be honest.

Okay, looking at these screens, the cutscene models do hold up well. Detail is good, and geomtery in this faces does look at least as good. They look good for sure.

Personally, I think in motion the lighting looks nicer in the Infamous cutscenes and also fabric looks at least as good when you can see them in decent clarity. You could have picked other scenes from the trailer of course where things don't come together quite as opportunely. For instance, when he is walking beneath the sky scrapers with his hands in his pockets. Maybe it is a lower LoD face or the lighting is poor, but it didn' t look particularly impressive. I don't think WD looks as good as the cutscenes at all in gameplay. Personally, I think Infamous gets much closer.

I'm just gonna wait for gamersyde footage and subscribing to this thread before claiming a downgrade I seen the story and it looks fantastic but those lastgen graphics people are claiming to representation of what actually looks like........... I'd hate to be some people in here if the game actually looks amazing and nothing like that gif.

Her reactions almost remind me of that PR lady from the EU PlayStation blog at the time the SingStore was forced onto to the XMB. Never heard from her again.

Well I didn't read it as slamming at all and would expect anyone who has played the game to completely agree with her but that's just me.

Shitstorm over nothing.

Yup. Part of why everyone in this industry is made of plastic is the fact that even consumers are way too sensitive about everything.

Her hyping the fuck out of Watch Dogs is just as fake as stone cold PR people. Her position as hypeman is part of the plastic kingdom.

While that line of PR was a huge mistake, we're blowing it out of proportion, as well as going OT.

After all, plenty of things we've said, while maybe 100% correct or justified, were not the proper thing to say in that situation. Both here and probably our work environments. Not worth crusading over just because it involves a topic what many of us are getting hot over. She's not trying to slam Outlast...seems to actually be complimenting it that it's great despite the graphics in what was a no-no in inputting personal opinion.

As for her hyping up Watch Dogs as Ubisoft PR outside of that line, what else are you expecting?
