You can't really blame him when there are gaffers who insist that the game looks exactly the same as it did during 2012. That shouldn't even be a debatable topic.
Wouldn't it be nice if devs didn't bullshit us with graphics that don't represent their final product? How difficult is it to be honest with your potential customers?
Do you think they built that 2012 demo with the sole intention of bullshitting customers? That's what they were aiming for and that's what existed at that time. Obviously something happened along the way that made that impossible and they're trying to deliver what they can.
The reveal had more wind and trash was blow around, but in the reveal a radio guys said that a storm is coming, it would look ridiculous to have that kind of wind everytime, trees were moving pretty hard.
In the 2013 footage we saw trees moving a little and trash beeing blown around slowly, so the same stuff was still in the game.
Pedestrian models look actually better in the 2013 footage than in the reveal.
Ground textures and models look a bit better in the reveal.
Lighting in the reveal is much more atmospheric.
The reveal footage also seems to have better DOF.
I think Ubi should do an exact reenactment of the reveal mission with the lastest built and show it to us.
Same time in the day, same weather, same slow walking etc.
I assume the differences will be much smaller than people think.
Here is a gif (with accelerated time) of the entire sequence, freezing at a few key points. The car looks "good" or "bad" depending on the lighting. I'd take from that the the infamous gif in the OP shows the worst possible comparison and that the game is indeed running better than at E3 2013. Nevertheless, it's in my opinion not as good looking as the E3 2012 trailer.

The patch you're referring to had a AA enhancement also. And I wasn't saying they could restore it to it's former glory, I said that they can do somethingabout the graphics in the few months they have left before release.
Me being a Junior Member doesn't mean my opinion is less valid than yours. Also, I'm not defending Ubisoft, just pointing out that your view is wrong. They have time to change the graphics, not completely, but they have time to do something like I said.

I agree. I dont post that much but I think we can all agree that one of the biggest problems is that Ubisoft is not transparent enough in terms of Graphics and Gameplay things. I honestly believe if a company is openly honest that it is always better than hiding and waiting things out to fade away.
I'm not saying that, there are some bad elements to it. But overall its the same as the resent footage we saw before this resent bit really, which I thought was fine.
To me, it looks like they're attempting to go for the "ICEnhancer" look that we saw with GTA IV. In some areas, enhanced GTA IV looked unlike anything else out there but there were also plenty of areas where it looked blown out and incorrect. That was just a mod, of course, but at times Watch Dogs does have that look to it. Like they're trying to emulate bright sun light on a city street and failing. It looks best in the evening scenes.
So the gif in the first post. Which version is it from?
They just released a new story trailer which has a lot of gameplay parts in it and that looks incredible. Based on that the first post is undoubtedly showing a weaker version and not the current-gen one.
I'm amazed that it's 'disgusting' for people to be upset about being lied to. You could respond to the massive downgrade in a more passive way and guess what? They wouldn't even acknowledge it.
Welcome to the world of customer shaming, and boy have companies done a terrific job of training loyal little attack dogs from within the customers' own ranks.
I guess we'll have to wait for more footage. He can mean a lot of things with that statement. Maybe the 2012 was a CGI reveal and they never actually downgraded the game per se, because it never looked great to begin with. It's difficult to intepret
The speeding over the railway gif has us viewing the car from a relatively low angle, so we're not getting much in the way of glossy reflection (which will only occur off super bright objects like the sky). The car looks (realistically) flat and boring, especially compared to the high angle shot where can see the impressive sky reflections and really read the model's form.
It's just an unflattering angle and environment for what looks to be excellent models and super impressive realtime reflections/shaders
Being a Ubisoft game that isn't called "Splinter Cell" I'm not even interested in it but c'mon y'all.
Gaf is too worried about graphics when we are consistently having 4000+ post threads about resolution and around 400+ post threads for actual game content...I mean shit we arent even discussing artstyle, just lighting effects, IQ, framerates , and resolutions.
Yes gaf is not a person, but it is important to be aware of currnt cultural norms within this community
Hopefully the whole 1080p/60fps/AA talk gets dimmed a bit so we can talk about game content.
I have a dream that one day three home consoles will be discussed in a community where they will not be judged by their resolution and fps but by the content of their games.
1 - Why shouldn't people be worried about graphics in a thread about a next-gen game? Do you think early adopters bought a PS4/X1 for the awesome new gameplay mechanics? New generation basically only boosted graphics, it's not like the new consoles have shown any other exceptional usage of that extra power as of now.
2 - Why shouldn't people be worried about graphics in a videogame? Graphics aren't everything, of course content matters, but both are important in a videogame, and it's especially crucial that there's a certain degree of harmony between the two.
3 - Why shouldn't people find outrageous that they've been lied to in regards to the graphics of a game that had its main point in the graphics?
I dream of a day when the industrty will be mature enough not to feel the need to lie to its consumers and the consumers will be sharp enough not to argue between themselves and accuse others of being entitled.
Where is the video of the car going crossing the bridge and the other comparisons (high sunlight daytime scenes) present in this thread, I only saw the trailer, didn't notice these scenes. The only thing I saw was an improvement in "effects resolution" in the new trailer. I felt that the trailer looked good with nice IQ for an openworld game.
That other recent trailer showing gameplay on PS4 looks pretty good to me. Yeah, it's not near the level of the reveal trailer with all that wind and dust adding to the atmosphere but it looks pretty good still. The gif in the OP seems like a cherry picked scene that looks particularly bad. But compared to other recent footage it doesn't seem to be the norm for this game.
I'm still unsold on the hacking mechanic and how fun that will actually be for an entire game but the graphics look solid. I'll play it on a high-end PC and I bet it will look pretty damn nice.
There is one simple question that they have refused to answer...
I don't really think anyone could say that the new footage looks much different than the E3 2013 footage, however, what happened to the game we saw at E3 2012?

As it stands with the current evidence gathered up by people in here, the 2012 footage was a bulltrailer. Not entirely unexpected but disappointing. Ubisoft could easily show the same mission with the same weather effects to effectively contain the issue but they chose not to.
They'd rather tell us about how suppressed guns are in the game. Earth-shattering.

This. They can either outright answer this simple question, OR, provide footage with a similar time of day & atmospheric effects. Should be quite easy for them to recreate such a scene within their own game.
