Everyone has the right to voice their concerns on a product, especially if they're interested in it. Even if you may not get an answer, you should voice your concern. It's hardly demanding.

no it is demanding. ubi has already came out and said the ps4 game will look like the e3 2013 trailer. and some in this thread are still going back to the e3 2012 and comparing it to the stuff revealed today, when we have known for months that the game wouldn't look like that on ps4 pretty much since ps4 reveal.

and yet the footage released yesterday doesn't look like the E3 2013 PS4 footage, in ways beyond time of day and weather effects.

This is from September 27th, 2013:

Watch Dogs' visuals have not been scaled down since the game's reveal at E3 2012, creative director Jonathan Morin has told VideoGamer.com, claiming that if anything, they've actually improved.

"There's no scale down in quality, especially the next-gen versions," Morin said, discussing some of the negative reaction to recent trailers with us at Eurogamer Expo this afternoon. "It's pretty much the opposite. What we showed at E3 2012 in a lot of respects was less good. I think it's in the details. So no, there's no scale down."

Watch Dogs wowed the industry with its visuals during its reveal at last year's E3, but has been criticised by some in recent months for the graphics on display in later builds, which appear to look weaker than the initial demo.

One trailer in particular, starring Aisha Tyler, was heavily criticised by fans for its visuals, to which Morin is said to have blamed on internal "communications issues".

Just so you know with what kind of fuck up we're dealing here.
.

By Ubisofts logic: March 2014 = E3 2013 > E3 2012
From what we've seen: E3 2012 >>>> E3 2013 >>>>>>>>>>>>>> March 2014

I see stepping in these images that isn't single stepping. I cannot say what the game actually looks like, but these frames appear to have been upscaled. high contrast edges (like the black rim of the monitor compared to the white screen, and the grey lip of the camera against the dark camera lenses) show obvious stepping, and it's not what we should be seeing were this footage native 1080p.
That's interesting

This reminds me of the Casey Hudson quotes during the Mass Effect 3 fiasco. Just really easy targets. He never even acknowledged them as far as I remember. I wonder if the team behind this will acknowledge they misspoke.

Gaf is too worried about graphics when we are consistently having 4000+ post threads about resolution and around 400+ post threads for actual game content...I mean shit we arent even discussing artstyle, just lighting effects, IQ, framerates , and resolutions.
Yes gaf is not a person, but it is important to be aware of currnt cultural norms within this community

Hopefully the whole 1080p/60fps/AA talk gets dimmed a bit so we can talk about game content.

I have a dream that one day three home consoles will be discussed in a community where they will not be judged by their resolution and fps but by the content of their games.

I saved some frames from Gamersyde's footage. Sorry for big size but scaling is not an option here. They can't be 1080p or they've been strongly post-processed to add AA. Look at transverse edges, they are way to smooth. I don't believe they use AA technique which works so well.

Bonus picture - poor lighting and geometry. This really doesn't look next gen.

I would still want to play this game because I like the setting and I'm a big fan of AC universe. But I'll definitely wait until it comes out to decide if it's worth launch purchase.

Is someone gonna tell him?

I'm not convinced there's been a large downgrade since 2013. It is much worse than 2012 though, but thats old news.

The OP gif is misleading though. A major reason the scene is visually appealling is the rain and related road reflections.

What the heck at this thread. We've seen countless downgrades from reveals to launches but I've not witnessed anything like the reaction here.

I'll just quote this post since it pretty much explains it all.

They say they didn't scale it down. Everything we've seen recently, it looks scaled down. It's not demanding at all to ask for something to relieve some of the concerns here. Calling it demanding isn't fair at all. Sure, Ubisoft can choose not to answer but they can't complain if someone that was interested in their game is now disinterested because of all this.

What the heck at this thread. We've seen countless downgrades from reveals to launches but I've not witnessed anything like the reaction here.

I think it might be to do with the ps4 version was kind of made out to be an exclusive before the console launched. it was demoed on ps4, has exclusive content on ps4. It was the reason that many people bought/ pre ordered a ps4. Myself included. The launch line up for sonys console was incredibly thin, but we had watchdogs....then it got delayed.

Thats my 2 cents. Just wanting to say I don't condone some of the reactions on this forum I am reading. It is over the line, especially if you are actually going to buy the game anyway......that's just...I don't know masochistic, maybe ??

Its crap that it has been downgraded. We don't know the truth behind it all, I am sure we will in some years. PC's can run a game that looks like that initial reveal. Was it solely going to be next gen, then Ubisoft heads said it had to be on everything?? are the new consoles weaker than they expected??

Everything is possible.

Screaming at some people that work their asses off, when I don't know all the facts, is something I am really not prepared to do....It's a fast way to look like an idiot down the line.

Just a heads up. I had a live demo of watchdogs on ps4. I believe the same as what was on jimmy falon maybe. It was at my managers conference before christmas. the game looked nothing like the 2012 reveal and looked like the footage we had seen coming out in september was it. The framerate was awful and it looked as good as these current video's.

I wouldnt say the game has been downgraded from that. I saw it with my own eyes ona cinema screen running direct off a dev kit. It looked no where near as good as its original demo, but worse than this new footage.

This entire thread is disgusting. The hatred and aggression shown toward the developers is despicable and the belief that a game's changes can be judged from YouTube videos of gameplay that occurs during completely different times of day is ludicrous.

Should we be waiting till launch day, buy our copy and play it to find out that we been lied to?

I'm sorry if the rest of us aren't willing to roll over when some corporate keep lying straight to us.

It's rather obvious when you think about it. All next gen disappointment rests on the shoulders of the Watch Dogs E3 2012 reveal.

Second Son hasn't disappointed me visually. I expect great things from 'next-gen' consoles. If they could do Uncharted with PS3, I can't imagine what they can do with the ps4.

I'm amazed that it's 'disgusting' for people to be upset about being lied to. You could respond to the massive downgrade in a more passive way and guess what? They wouldn't even acknowledge it.

Even with the few gameplay snippets from Order 1886 and Quantum Break, it's clearly evident that next gen games are going to be mighty impressive! And Second Son looks jaw dropping! Here's hoping Ubisoft's final two months leading up to the launch in May27th sees them releasing a polished product with Watch Dogs that looks near identical to E3 2013 footage, if not better.

Just a heads up that the demo I had played right in front of me looked nothing like 1080p and shadows plus lighting looked like ass. That was the Jimmy fallon demo too

Or, you can wait until the preview videos of the retail build are released?

The latest IGN xbox podcast says they played the game and that it looks great. Even went as far as to say that they didn't notice a downgrade...

Game Journalists are pretty much in the same boat as Jason from Kotaku.

Can't say anything bad about the game cause they don't want to get on Ubisoft bad side.

Trust me, the moment this game launch and millions of dollars roll in. They'll be like.. Well there's some issues with this game.

By that point it would be too late.

Lighting effects are part of art style. If you haven't paid attention to the threads, Dark Souls 2 on the PS360 seems to have lost the distinctive lighting from the earlier gameplay footage, and it makes the game look more bland and generic as a result.

Yeah, this is my biggest problem with all this. It really baffles me that Ubisoft is handling all of this in this way. It's just gonna hurt their image a bit.

We have a month left until the game goes gold. How much more graphic polishing do you think they can do? As best the only thing they can do is kill some bugs.

This is it.

Well, ACBF got the big AA fix in a patch a little later than it went on sale, so yeah, they can do something about the graphics...

This, i mean the apologist nonsense in this thread is reaching an all time high. If you screw up, you're going to get called out on it. I don't know how anyone is defending ubisoft.

On another note, one of the devs on twitter said "make your game then we'll talk" or something along those lines. I can't find the quote. When i read that, i was like WUT? This is one of the most stupid arguments i've ever read. When your peers are making better looking games, i really don't know what your excuse is.

If I remember correctly those are the same guys who couldn't tell the difference between 720p and 1080p unless you were (made-up number) feet away and on a (made-up number) size TV.

I still think most of the footage from Watch Dogs looks pretty good, (Clearly not E3 2012 good) but those are the last guys I would trust when it comes to anything technical.

That's just childish. Still amazes me how some people don't have common sense.

AA won't fix the lighting, reflections, ps2 car models, poor textures, poor geometry and several other graphically issues with this game. P

I didn't say AA would fix those, I was just pointing out that even though the game is nearly going gold, they can do something.

Wut?

People are overly offended because this was viewed as a ps4 exclusive?

So....which one is it ?

Assuming I'm reading correctly, he's saying this new footage is better looking than the demo he played, and that the demo he played was the jimmy fallon one.

So I guess he's saying we jumped the shark and that this actually looks better than the 2013 footage we've been saying looked pretty good?

You know which game deserves this kind of reaction and then more? Bioshock Infinite. The gameplay reveal for that game promised almost a whole different experience than what the game actually delivered. Not just visually. At least Watch Dogs is still the same game from what we've seen.
What about this footage from 6 months ago? I actually thought it still looked really nice here.

Looks the same to me with a different TOD/weather.

Versus this?

I think that car model in your gif is just really nasty.

why did the director say it will look like the E3 trailer then. Are you sure this is not the last gen version?

Did he? If he said it a while ago, I guess you can put it down to "things change".

And yeah, it's definitely PS4 footage, Sony already confirmed it. And even if they hadn't, you gotta ask yourself why Ubi wouldn't show off their best version. They want to move as many copies as possible.

I don't recall any of the car models looking so bland. Have they looked like this since last years gameplay footage?

edit: oh I see your point now. That does explain a lot about the whole situation possibly.

What kind of garbage looking car is that? There is also clipping between the tires and road texture. ios games have better car models.

real-racing3-1300-2-s-307x512.jpg

My gif is from the same video (6:50). The point of it is that the car model plus the compression plus the awful motion blur are fooling a lot of people with that gif in the op.
Ha ha, I didn't actually watch through the whole thing again.

The car model later in the video looks excellent while the one at 6:50 is the same ugly model that's stirred up all this trouble.

Actually, looking more closely, the model is actually suitably detailed. It's simply that, in gif form, it looks much flatter than it actually is. The lights look pasted on, for instance, but they are actually fully modeled and quite rounded.
