Watch_Dogs downgradeaton confirmed

Lol it is from the same video. Watch it.
I know, that's the thing, the other cars in that video look as you would expect.

To me that suggests that people really are judging this a bit too early. That particular car in the gif looks really bad in the gif but is actually reasonably detailed if you watch the video at a larger size.

Heh, I remember that e3 reveal trailer... It was my most anticipated game for the year...
I should never trust a reveal trailer to be the actual game again.

Look at this way...

One of the most deceptive reveal trailers of all time remains the Killzone 2 2005 trailer, right?

This time out, with Killzone Shadowfall, they matched the original reveal trailer. They learned their lesson.

I believe if you look at the previous 9-10 posts you'll have a better explanation of why the GIF in the OP looks the way it does. :)

damn this thread never slowed down, but then again that "q&a" didnt really help

i dont think there is anything left to do but wait now, there aint long left, and may is pretty quiet so this will get a lot of attention. one thing is certain though, i wont be pre-ordering this game.

You know which game deserves this kind of reaction and then more? Bioshock Infinite. The gameplay reveal for that game promised almost a whole different experience than what the game actually delivered. Not just visually. At least Watch Dogs is still the same game from what we've seen.

Looks the same to me with a different TOD/weather.

Is that the new Crackdown? Jesus Christ, that car seriously looks cell shaded.

On another note, one of the devs on twitter said "make your game then we'll talk" or something along those lines. I can't find the quote. When i read that, i was like WUT? This is one of the most stupid arguments i've ever read. When your peers are making better looking games, i really don't know what your excuse is.

Wtf, is there a source for this? Because that's a painfully pathetic argument a 10-year-old might use

This post is only 540p at best
It was downgraded before posted - 540i.

Anyway, I've been waiting for something from Ubisoft, hoping for some clarification or better footage. After the combined effect of GTAV and the delay, they really needed to hold onto whatever hype they could get. This thread has successfully murdered Watch_Dogs for me. Went from a "day one purchase" to a "I'll wait for a discount".

Shadows popping in/out at the railway crossing and on the side of the building + leaves fading in/changing LOD right in front of you... this is last gen stuff.

What kind of garbage looking car is that? There is also clipping between the tires and road texture. ios games have better car models.

:lol you guys realize the gif is from last year's footage? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8z3iG2QlJXk

Just proving that y'all being fooled by that gif in the op. The game doesn't look any worse than it did last year, hell, Aiden looks better to me in the new footage.

Much closer to the car, different LOD.
No, not a different LOD. A different car.

The car in that gif is reasonably detailed if you watch the video. The design is ugly, however, and in the gif it makes it seem as if details are just pasted on rather than modeled.

I haven't been fooled by anything. I remember watching that video and thinking that the game looked like balls at the time. The fact that the only argument people have at this point is that it looks just as it did last summer, one delay later speaks volumes. Hard to believe the lengthy delay was due purely to the lack of consistency in game systems. You'd think polish and optimization would make it in there as well, but apparently Ubi is a bit cash poor at the moment. Maybe things will turn around if their investment in the next ten Ass. Creed games pans out.

Now that I've thought about it, I can forgive them for this. It's sucks ass, but I can live with it. They'll likely always make this mistake, baiting with some sick-ass visuals at a reveal or in an early trailer, then switching out when they realize they can't handle trying to make that shit a reality. UBI seems to be especially bad for this, though. I can forgive them... when the game is about $20 in a Steam sale.

Is this thread some kind of GAF record? Nearly 100 pages about graphics within a few days?

I dunno, I'd imagine it could look pretty similar at night in the rain.

After rewinding it for 10 times and watching over and over I have to... agree with you. Maybe it's just a poor selection of footage because some scenes look quite awful. But it definitely isn't from 1080p material or somebody really fucked up the compression before sending it to media outlets and places like Gamersyde.

Well, ACBF got the big AA fix in a patch a little later than it went on sale, so yeah, they can do something about the graphics...
AC:BF only got a resolution update patch.

Watch Dogs on the other hand will need a freakin 10GB patch to even hope to restoring it to it former glory.

Is it just me or is there a bunch of Junior Members actively defending Ubisoft?

Look like Ubisoft got a bunch of sleeper accounts on Gaf, waiting for the inevitable backlash so they can do some damage control.

"Hey now, it doesn't look that bad."
"If Assassin's Creed: Black Flag can release a patch to fix it, surely Watch Dogs can too!"

/s (unless it's true)

The worst part is that there are people who insist that it still looks the same as it did in the reveal. Shocking

We call them average consumers. Aka YouTube commenters. Seriously, go on there. Half the people still think that it look godly, and that the rest of us are just Microsoft/Nintendo/ or Sony haters.

Why? Because console war doesn't have to make sense.

Hey guys, can anyone give me a summary of the Q&A from Ubi? Been through last 3 pages and can't see anything related, think I left last night and the thread was about 50 pages - moves damn fast.

It seems the distant view from the rear of the car is causing most of the controversy now, maybe along with lighting. To be fair, it does look like a pasted graphic but until we see Aiden in a proper city area where it's raining/blustery can't really compare it to the latest gifs, where it is really sunny.

Hopefully with the reaction someone at Ubi is working on a trailer to better show the game off. I'm a bit disappointed because at least Ubi are bringing a new IP to the table and they have built a brand new engine for it as well. I wanna support them just because of that but with the games retailing at £50 it becomes a case of picking your risks more carefully.

Versus this?

I think that car model in your gif is just really nasty.

Okay, going back between this and the recent footage...the game does actually look pretty decent, and looks better now than in this footage. Here you see terrible LoD issues, flickering, shadow popping and tons of shimmering. They seem to have fixed quite a bit of that. The gameplay footage released recently is only 720p, so would like to see it in 1080p with less compression. However, it is still some way away from the E3 2012 obviously. Not sure how it compares to E3 2012 until I see night time footage in better res. The infamous car gif looks shocking in general even in the footage. Like some sort of unholly convergence everything looks poor in it, including abysmall motion blur. Not sure who decided to put together this broll. It was quite similar with the Order (although that looks visually great). I can put together something far more dynamic and which shows their game in a better light.

Completely agree. I still liked Infinite, but not for any of the reasons I expected to. The gameplay was garbage and the enemies were boring. I would love to have what that original trailer showed.

I felt the same way about Ghost Recon: Future Soldier. That game look so good at the reveal, by the time it came our. The graphic were nowhere close. I still beat it though sadly.

Never again Ubisoft.

Isn't this game on all consoles?

Nice, i hope it scares the shit out of the people at Ubisoft responsible for this false advertisement.

And i'm usually one of the most reluctant people to join a hate parade of any kind, but this mess got me mad. For me Watch Dogs was the most anticipated game for over two years, mainly because the graphical quality promised me an immersion like i've never seen before.

Really? Future Soldier was an ugly attempt at cel-shading originally. Not an impressive looking game by any means. The final game looks dramatically better.

I actually think people are being way too harsh.

Black Flag? Beautiful, excellent game. Rayman Legends? Origins? Incredible games that were a sight to behold. Far Cry 3? Not as impressive as the original showing but still an extremely well made title. Splinter Cell: Blacklist? A solid game that bested the reveal footage. They still put out plenty of great looking and playing games. I don't think it makes sense to blast the entire company or suggest that people work for them.

I think it's clear that you're a Ubi-hater! /s

I definitely wouldn't say the newest footage resembles the original E3 footage, but I think it's fair to say it hasn't changed much over the past year. The 1st gif in the OP is misleading because of mostly compressed video and other minor aspects. Although when the camera's in motion it does appear to make everything look much worse.

and your talking about it now in march 2014?????

what did you want me to do? create a thread? I played mario kart and mario 3d world etc, I played zelda link between worlds. I played the ps4. I played loads of games. infact it would have been at the beginning of november/end of october as I played both next gen consoles before they were out.

I'm not the type to come on here and spew a load of info without proper evidence. That's why I am commentating on it now. It was the same demo as Jimmy fallon and I thought it looked average at best then. Crappy shadows etc. Like that 14 minute video just posted. I thought it was common knowledge that it didn't look like the reveal video??

I actually quite like the shadows in that footage, to be honest. I don't see a problem with them.

Wouldn't it be nice if devs didn't bullshit us with graphics that don't represent their final product? How difficult is it to be honest with your potential customers?

60% of the time, this thread delivers every time. Full of speculations, overreactions and conspiracy theories. :D
