Titanfall boosts Xbox One UK sales by 96%, Tea and Crumpets for all!

Man MS really better buy up that exclusivity come Tf2...although I imagine Titanfall has already done its job of moving X1 for early adopters.
I can't even start to think about how much that would cost. They can plug their fingers in their ears all they want but there's no way EA isn't somewhat sour over the deal they made for this release. A year ago they were thinking they were rolling along into the slot for biggest new IP this year but may well not even be the top-selling new shooter. Now that all the assumptions they (presumably) made about Microsoft ahead of time on the X1 release have not panned out it would be very, very hard to get future exclusivity. Moreover, hasn't Respawn mentioned how they'd like to bring the series to more platforms? To be fair to EA I don't know if anyone could have predicted the rapid cross/last-gen collapse over the course of just a few months this winter which will surely cost them some sales they were expecting from the 360. It should still sell in the multi-million range but their projections will have been far higher. I agree entirely that many of the expected sales of the console for Titanfall will have been the earliest adopters.

Then again, Microsoft paid $400M for an NFL deal and lord knows how much to shove in a ton of free copies of FIFA in Europe. I wouldn't put anything past them, but unless Titanfall gives a gigantic hardware boost in March it'll get progressively harder to justify sales figures. 96% is good and all and certainly but lacking context it's almost meaningless, especially now that that PS4 percentage bump has been posted. Microsoft simply has to do better than "our w/o/w sales percentage bump was 20% more than the PS4's!"

All these Amazon links are not truly representative of what is actually selling -- well at least right now we don't know. For example in February wasn't the ps4 always ahead of xbox one by a huge margin in ranking? That didn't mean that the xbox actually had a big bump and came pretty close to ps4. Correct me if i'm wrong.

In Feb on Amazon UK ps4 was 10th best selling video game item, xbox one was in the 50s.

Not sure if new-thread-worthy, but:

(He's editor at MCV)

Microsoft: Spend large sums of money on exclusivity rights for a 3rd party game, advertise and market the hell out of it, bundle it for free with Xbox One consoles, unofficial price drops of the console in many retailers = 96% increase in console sales

Sony: Make more PS4 stock available = 72% increase in console sales.

This could of been me but i decided it would be better at least financially to get it for the Xbox 360. The £399.99 price tag is still too expensive for most and i think we in the United kingdom need another big price cut before Christmas. £329.99 plus a game sounds about right to me saying that £299.99 sounds better could be done if MS wasn't so stubborn about removing the bloody kinect which could be sold as a extra peripheral.

MS can win in UK they just need to sell the system cheaper than the Playstation 4.

I have and all I see is people saying 96% means little.

That's just from page 1 of this thread. Is your "little" the new "big"?

that's a big bump

It's happening

It's a pretty big bump. It's 4% off doubling the sales.

Wow, im amazed!

Hahaha...what?!

diXrxSr.jpg

hmm would that mean the LTD sales have equaled the PS4? if so, nice comeback for MS

That's insane.

They can't of sold many before if they've had such a dramatic increase in sales.

96% is a good jump no matter how you spin it considering how bad ps4 was outselling the XO. More sales equals more competition which equals better services for the consumer end. I like it.

Nice to see both consoles do well, let's unite and get rid of cross-gen rather than bicker about Sony/Microsoft splits!

PS4 is more popular this gen and is also supply constrained. PS4 sales getting a bump doesn't mean Microsofts Titanfall gamble hasn't worked.

Wondering what the actual numbers are. 96% of what? 74% of what? Whenever people throw around percentages when it comes to hw sales, it just makes me feel they're hiding stuff.

Great name, good post.

Bam! That's a nice ass jump. Manufactured hype be damned! The game is great fun and well deserving of being played by millions. I'm starting to kick ass at the game. Screw running around on the ground. It's all about wall running.

I agree, Titan Fall 2 should release on ps4 so millions can enjoy it.

I think im going to avoid these sales threads until we can get some estimates of hard numbers. Too much wishful thinking, downplaying and premature celebrating.

All we know is Titanfall has sold 125k+ copies in 3 days. The xbox one sales have nearly doubled this weekend.

Thats a fantastic start for the franchise and a real boon to the Xbox one. Everything else we simply do not know and the speculation is getting a bit silly.

Absolutely agree.

So Sony got a 72-74% increase just by releasing some more stock, holy shit. Sony really should think about opening another manufacturing plant to keep up with supply and demand.

Congrats to MS on their bump as well, they still need a price drop, really bad.

A bump is a bump, but the feeling is that the parts involved were both expecting much more.
And it's not even clear if it was enough to outsell the PS4 for the week.

So if ps4 was selling more than xbo last week that could mean that the increase on number of consoles sold could be similar for both systems

That all depends on where they both started.

At the end of January, Fergal Gara said the PS4 was selling 3:2 (1.5:1) to the Xbone in the UK despite the limited stock. The WW ratio last we heard was 6.3 (I think) to 3.3ish which is actually 3.8:2 (1.9:1). I'm guessing a 7m:4m ratio for the end of March. or 1.75:1.

If we assume that 1.5:1 was still the case last week and make some numbers up to fit

10,000 Xbone + 96% = 19,600
15,000 PS4 + 72.4% = 25,860

20,000 Xbone + 96% = 39,200
30,000 PS4 + 72.4% = 51,720

30,000 Xbone + 96% = 58,800
45,000 PS4 + 72.4% = 77,580

This is absurd, but for information
150,000 Xbone + 96% = 294,000
225,000 PS4 + 72.4% = 387,900

As you can, see, with that 1.5:1 ratio 96% increase v 72.4% increase would mean a ridiculous number of Xbones must have been sold to make up the gap (it never would). Even if the Xbone had sold 8 MILLION last week, the 96% vs 72.4% boosts to both (assuming the same 3:2 ratio last week) would still put the Xbone behind the PS4 by a huge margin.

For the Xbone to have sold more hardware this week, considering the boosts that both have received over last week, the ratio LAST week would have to have been in the region of 1.138:1. Significantly lower than other numbers we have seen indicating 1.5:1 for the UK both with Pre orders, first few weeks sales & end of January from Gara.

Of course, this all depends on an equal distribution of stock throughout the month rather than the barren wasteland for a week and then sudden restocks the PS4 gets. The xbone doesn't suffer as much since there is stock everywhere.

So Sony got a 72-74% increase just by releasing some more stock, holy shit.

And that again could mean absolutely anything as we don't know what it did the week before.

A bump is a bump, but the feeling is that the parts involved were both expecting much more.
And it's not even clear if it was enough to outsell the PS4 for the week.

But it could be anything from a blip to a WOMPWOMPWOMP.

If it didn't outsell the ps4 for the week or if March as a whole isn't even close, you have to wonder just how and where a possible turning point lies.

so not only did titanfall boost x1 sales by 96% but also ps4 sales by 72.4%? first ever game to boost competitor console sales confirmed?
percentages are fun

So if the PS4 was out if stock last week, the 72% increase of 0 (no stock) means the PS4 sold 0 consoles this week. Man, Infamous sure is a system seller! Beanie sales probably went up 72% as well!

None of this makes any sense without last weeks numbers, but since they both jumped I doubt MS has overtaken Sony.

I am surprised we still don't have TF on XB1 numbers.

Given a likely dip in anticipation for TF, perhaps. However XB1 sales rose a lot in US (66% or so) in Fenruary, granted the TF bundle was only known about for 5 days of the tracking period.

Still, I'd be surprised if XB1 beat PS4 based on that number alone.

Pretty much this.

I honestly don't think that TF has been anywhere near as successful for MS as they had expected in regards to Xbox One. A 96% increase in what number exactly? 96% of 100? 100,000, 1,000,000???? Until we know exactly what the 96% increase is based on it's meaningless.

I do believe however that it will sell better on 360, mainly as imo (tales from my ass), a lot of people have made the switch to PS4 from 360 and will just buy it for that instead of buying a Xbox one.

This thread has a lot of pages. A bump that size seems large as does the PS4 bump but without knowing how much either sold in the previous time period this bump accounts for [weekly, monthly???] I have no idea what it actually means aside from that fact that Titanfall and the price cut has has a significant positive effect on UK XB1 sales and getting more stock in has had a significant positive effect on UK PS4 sales

So if the PS4 was out if stock last week, the 72% increase of 0 (no stock) means the PS4 sold 0 consoles this week. Man, Infamous sure is a system seller! Beanie sales probably went up 72% as well!

Don't be ridiculous. PS4 sold 1 unit last week in all of the UK. Thus they have sold 1.72 units this week

I love buying only part of a console :P

They only wanted a console on par with the Xbox One in terms of power, so they only bought 3/4s of a PS4. Remember the 33% weaker 66% stronger ratio! Or something.

That reminds me, I should do my statistics homework.

Sony has been in beast mode for many months now and their momentum really doesn't look to be letting up. MS has this opportunity while Sony is supply constrained to make some headway. This is just a taste of what will happen when Sony is able to ship enough units.

Outside of NeoGAF, the Xbox One isn't doomed. Correct.

It's doing badly in Europe and not so well leading to mass cuts in the uk, it isn't just made up forum hype or ms wouldn't have price cut so soon and retailers wouldn't be slashing it all over the place.

Wow how low will it go, game seek are doing the xbox one for £299 and titanfall for £30 in a special.

I've said it before & I'll say it again, 300 notes & Titanfall pack in where MS need to be to start gaining some decent momentum, it wont be long now before that price is a reality, I can feel it in my bones.

So much doom and gloom on Gaf. So much.

meh, I am trying to make a drinking game out of it with my colleges at work.

Look up MS or XB1 topic in the gaming section, guess at what page it derails into doom or mockery and then drink the difference in shots :P

Could be worse, people stopped giving a shit about the WiiU to even make fun of it

1.96 (ONE Price-drop week)
1.72 (PS4 stock issues week)

At that price it would cost them a damned fortune.
