Dark Souls II |OT2| Prepare to Vengarl

The easily farmable one is in a late-game area:
the ghostly pyro swordsmen in the Royal Crypt. The bell in the large corridor leading to the boss door spawns a group of them every time you ring it, and they never seem to stop spawning. You can ring the bell, clear them out, ring it again, and repeat indefinitely until your relentless thirst for grinding is sated.

That you can engage in an endless number of localized and generalized NG+s does little to address concerns about limitations on souls available within a single playthrough.

Nice, I barely even remember that area. Definitely ran through a lot of the late game thinking I was closer to the end than I was.

Beat the bosses of Belfry Luna in a couple tries. That place must be hell for someone under leveled. All these dudes wanted mah souls.

Wow! I did the first boss in the prison, finally. Then found that the place is one of the biggest and most complex in From history. And found another two bosses, although I didn't even try one yet.

So, I haven't started playing yet. (Damn life, interfering, lol.)

Anyway, do lost souls due to dying twice in a row count toward Soul History? I would hope this is not the case.

Guys how far am i?

Just reached
The Gutter and i have 3 Lord Souls

Fuckin hate this new area ç_ç

Anyway after S.D. bosses became easy as hell, that wall got me determined as fuck

Really? I haven't had a problem with it as long as you make sure to pull everything one by one. Then it's circle-strafe backstab city.

For me, it was just simple mistakes that led to my death (like:
falling off the bridge by not paying attention and not noticing the gap in the bridge floor. lol
) or failing the boss battle and then having to redo the path.

It's annoying that you need human effigies to fight
darklurker
. I ran out of them before even unlocking him/it, and I'm at the end of the game so there's no easy way to get them...

Loving this game! Feels like a perfect blend of Demon's and Dark Souls.

Anyone dual wielding? Been using a longsword and broadsword since the start of the game pretty much, shit is insane! Have them both at +10, still no real trouble. Also loving the greatsword, dat moveset.

Thought I would leave a few tips for people at (Area)T

, lot of potential titanite missed here by those who hate this place(all of the people).
If you destroy the statues you wont get poisoned, simple I know but when farming this place it is vital, more on that below.
If you drop down in front of where those wall centipede thingys pop out of, you land on a ledge with a locked door and a tunnel. At the end of the tunnel is a clearing with 2 not-so friendly giants. Pretty easy to miss but there is good loot to be got, and they can be cheesed with arrows in the little mini-caves along the edges of the clearing.
The eye-ball tentacle things that pop out of the pools of oil drop large titanite shards or chunks as far as I remember, and there are I think 6 to kill per run. I didn't use any items to increase drop rate and was still averaging 2 items per run. Best thing to do is kill every enemy in the area, destroy all the statues, then sit at a bonfire to begin the farming process without the annoyance of the statues. The wall centipedes, for me at least, dropped a poison stone and some hex that I cant remember the name of.
There is a bonfire along the right edge of the cliff not far from the boss fight, that, as far as my experience online helping people goes, hardly anyone knows about. It helps alot for the boss fight and for farming this place for titanite.

Sorry for the wall of spoilers, I just hate getting things spoiled.

Also, brodents ftw.

If anyone wants tips on beating (boss)R

, lemme know, by the end I had a relatively reliable strategy, given the circumstances.

The Gutter
- did someone say this game wasn't as dark as previewed? Can't see shit, this is darker than VoD 5-2!

That's just one, and the only, area though. Sadly, the whole torch mechanic is mostly wasted in this game. A bit disappointing figuring how much it was pimped as being a big thing.

Hey, exact same problem here! I'm out, need some, but can't find them anywhere. Only thing I can do is use an ascetic to respawn some enemies, but that carries over to NG+ and don't really want to do that.

Rawr. This game. Rawr. I'm not finding it very difficult so far, but I just keep getting myself killed for rushing myself. I just get so tense and start mashing...

For the record: I needed a guy to help me get going in DS1, but I've been finding my way around pretty easily so far. Beat
Giant Boss
in two tries and nearly beat
Dragonrider
on my first try. Those damn
knights
keep getting me because I get too impatient... Goin DEX for this build. Am liking it a lot.

Are there any cool looking mage outfits in the game? If so, where? Like example, I loved how the Gold-hemmed Black set looked in Dark Souls 1. Basically any nice looking light gear will do. I'm currently using Wanderer's set which I like, but I've been using it for a while. Any help? :)

I like the Hexer set. You can get it by
killing Felkin just before the start of Copse, then buying it from Melentia. I also heard he'll just give it to you if your int/faith are high enough, but I can't confirm that
.

Desert sorceress set might be another option.
It drops from the ladies in Earthen Peak
.

Can someone provide any suggestions on how to beat the Brightstone Cove boss? Hardest one so far by far, in my opinion :(
Her attacks almost instakill me immediately, but the hardest part are the small spiders :/ I try to vary between attacking her two heads so the beam doesn't kill me, but then the pincers instakill me

Anyone around my SL(107) and on PS3 have an extra Faintstone? I really need one for my sword. I can trade for something :)

Will say this, after all the controversy about brightness just before general release, I've played since the start with the brightness slider all the way down. Which probably helps (or hinders - you know what I mean!)

Bonfire Acetic really made me a appreciate Heide's Tower a lot more.

New enemies and more of them but not too many. Most of them can be aggro-ed on their own, one at a time. Tonnes of fun.

Do the areas get bigger in this game?
All the areas I been to feel confined & tiny.
I just finished the Dragonknight boss fight & heading into the Wharf.

They definitely feel small in relation to Demon & Dark Souls 1.

I haven't encountered any level even remotely as big as Blightown or Darkroot Garden

Holy shit
No Mans Wharf
doesn't mess about does it! :/ I rang the bell and got down to the
pirate ship, but died. It's a long old run back since the pier is damaged. Used fire against the weird creatures there and skipped most fights, but 3 of them chased me towards the ship!! Pretty tough with their guard breaking moves and firebomb loving.

I did that area as it was presented to me, I am guessing its pretty much the natural path through the game from Heide’s Tower of Flame. Correct? Difficulty definitely jumped after the last area, those giant knights were absolute cake.

I really like that area despite how short it is, so I may have to use one.

I think the gamma adjust in this game is bullshit; I eventually set it way darker than I thought it should be and now the game looks way better and places like no mans wharf are actually dark enough to need a torch if you just want to run around without being careful. Recommend trying that if you can see easily in places you feel you shouldn't.

Don't worry. You've barely scratched the surface of the game. The areas get much larger and the level design gets more intricate as you progress.

after 2 tries. Very easy I didn't even get hit...

The boss himself is easy. Killing the minions can be a massive pain in the ass though, some weapons miss one time out of two at least.

My tactic:
just run around in a circle around her, just outside her feet. Kill the small spiders one by one, just be careful that she isn't ready to attack. When those are taken care of, keep circling around her, close to the legs. When she attacks, she stops circling, run to the head opposite of whereever she is attacking. For example when she does that beam attack, run to the head NOT doing the beam, smack it a couple of times (I used a greatsword and only did a single 2h attack each time), then resume circling. Repeat until dead.

Ok I am now trying (end game)
ancient dragon with the gyrn greatshield but during his fire attack I get guard broken and then one shotted
.

Nevermind about the Brightstone boss, was a complete pushover as soon as I summoned an ally to act as a distraction, haha. But holy crap at the surprise fight near the bonfire, shat my pants while holding over 50000 souls :O

You missed pulling a lever past all the spider monkey's, it moves the ship closer to you to board, and you fight a boss there.

Alternatively, you can skip No Man's Wharf by beating The Pursuer, at Cardinal Tower using the key you got from the Giant.
Thanks for that, I knew I must have missed something! Back to NMW!

Try summoning the npc Phantom. He is in the corner behind a pillar in the room before the fog. He took out the small enemies allowing me to focus on the boss only. When he attacks you can get at least three solid hits in.

Edit:looks like you got it already.

Any weapon -> make it lightning +10 -> get sunlight blade miracle
Lightning weapons can be buffed now? Hahaha shit.

Ugh. God, I know this is unhealthy and borderline suicidal, but I'm currently on spring break and couldn't help it, GAF.

I just played this game from 11 PM Sunday night to just now. Cleared 2 of the and hit SL 130. The co-op and pvp scenes seem pretty active at this range so I don't think I'm going to level any more.

Gonna crash for a very, very long time.
Wow, and I thought my 10 hours binges were bad. Geez... O_o

In the Forest of Fallen Giants, how do I get down to that salamander with all the fire around him? Do I just jump with a cat ring or is there something I'm missing? Looks like I'll die if I do that.
There's a locked door that leads to this area without dropping down. The key is, surprisingly, in
the Iron Keep. It's even labelled "Iron Keep Key", and I spent a good amount of time trying to figure out where the door was in the Iron Keep, until I gave up. Then later I checked that door right before the Last Giant boss and it opened and I was all "WTF". xD

Be careful, the fire salamanders are incredibly difficult to take on in melee. It seems every attack went right through my shield. Poison works well, though. There's some loot down there, though I found it mildly disappointing.

Is this a problem?

With Demon's and Dark Souls - From has created a great 'framework' to build their game worlds in. Sort of how like Zelda provides a framework that has propelled many games with various tweaks and adjustments over the years.

Demon's Souls shares ideas with Kings Field and some of their earlier games.
Dark Souls builds on that - but expanded things out with an open/connected world, a few mechanic tweaks, expanded online.
Dark Souls II is like a hybrid of the two - refines that was there, and then builds out on it.

I think there is a nice mix of old-ideas, tweaked & expanded ideas, and new ideas.

Hell, even some of the asset reuse I am completely ok with - it's like a warm nostalgic hug from an aunt that you're scared of ;). The sound of some of the elevators being the same as the one going down to the Armored Spider in Demon's Souls, the growl of the dogs, the death sound of some enemies sounding like the silver knights in Anor Londo.

I like how they are keeping fairly true to their online vision while at the same time expanding it with the covenant system.

I like how they snuck in a 'hard mode', but having it play in with the game mechanics without being a straight up difficulty selector at the start of the game.

I also like how there are levels that are similar/call back to levels earlier in the series.

Boletarian Palace = Undead Burg/Parish/Lower Burg = similar to a bit of the first starting area
Valley of Defilement = Blight Town =
Bit of The Gutter/The Black Gulch
Getting a bit of Tower of Latria vibe from
Shine of Amana
, and both
Iron Keep and Drangelic Castle
have a bit of an Anor Londo vibe - while still being very unique and different at the same time.

Boss Fights that are a bit of a nod to previous things in the series but (mostly) avoid being a direct rip off,
The Rotten
being a bit like the 2-1 Boss,
The rat boss
feeling a bit like a derpy-Sif fight, while still bringing things that feel new to the table with other encounters.

So while there is a lot of 'idea reuse' many of those ideas fall into the 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' category - and many of the other ideas have been expanded/tweaked/adjusted to still feel fresh.

If From continues the series (and I hope they do) - I'm sure there will be 'another level like the valley of defilement, another level like anor londo, another level like X', but then also toss in a bunch of new stuff also, and I think I'm OK with that.
Agreed completely. It's the best way to do a sequel: expand the content significantly, but still have a few things that are throwbacks to the previous games. I'd say the (great soul boss)
Rotten
is more reminiscent of the
Leechmonger or Dirty Colossus
from Demon's Souls, though, than the 2-1 boss (which was the Armour Spider).

So general consensus: first game is better?
Not a consensus at all. Right now I'm not sure which is better, but there are things DkS2 does better, namely the exploration and sheer amount of secrets. There are way, way, way more secrets and hidden nooks and crannies to find than in DkS1. It's very rewarding to explore thoroughly.

You don't have to be in, they summon randos in to fuck over. But it's not like it's a big deal, it just wastes a couple minutes of your time. There's no penalty for you being killed as a phantom.
Exactly. Personally I find it hilarious as hell. And if you do happen to win it recharges your Estus and repairs your gear, so it's actually kind of a bonus.

That's the only area in the game I've seen where the torch seems really useful.
I found it immensely useful in the S

Yeah that boss really sucks. I had to level up a bit and come back.

My strategy was basically kill as my spiders as I could right off the bat. Then, I would just kind of stand in an area just to the left of her head and keep my shield up a lot. I would just get a couple hits in between when she would do moves. Most of her physical attacks I could block without losing health and if it staggered me, she typically would not attack again until I was ready for it. Make sure to move around a lot when she starts stamping but don't move too far from her head. If you are that close, she probably won't do the beam attack.

Honestly, I never found a good way too dodge the pincer attack. I would just block it and let it stagger me.
