Jay Electronica ft. Jay Z - We Made It (Jay Z returns shots at Drake)

This reads like you just made a bunch of excuses to not listen to brand new, good hip hop. If you help, we are open to giving suggestions if you care enough.

I'm not closed out to the world of music. I fall in and out of genre's here and there. For a while now, I have dropped out of rap. When I was young, I only listen to rap and Hip hop. Something touched me outside of it that made me abandon it for some years now. Coming back to it recently is what kind of shaped my opinion. But instead of going into a whole autobiography on my musical taste, to answer your question... Yes I do care, and open to suggestions.

Honestly I'd rather listen to today's rap over anything from the so-called golden era. There's just such a vast variety of good shit out there thanks to all of the different venues for releasing music these days. It's hard to keep up sometimes.

Whats your opinion on Kanye West and/or Drake? Probably the two most mainstream rappers atm.

I liked Jigga's verse on this, its effortless, dude don't even have to say much per verse, dud speaking truths.

the beat is tired though,..Jay E didn't do it for me, he has nice lyrical content but delivery is too mechanical, he hasn't mastered his flo..this is the first rap song i've listened to in a loooong time, guess as long as jay is in the game it's not all garbage.

It's hard to say which matters most, depends on the track. You bringing up the hype Jay brings to a track just because of his name shows you don't know what mic presence means as pre song hype is irrelevant once the music starts. He has an iconic voice, but on this particular track he came off as weak, probably because the beat didn't suite someone like him and his flow wasn't tight on it, several factors involved at play here.

You probably have a limited scope on hip hop music so I don't hold any of this against you if you don't get it
Try again when you actually read my post about you using mic presence as an argumentative crutch. I didn't even talk about pre-track "hype." Way to cater your response to not the argument itself and nitpick side details.

Or maybe you did and just decided personal insults would help your crumbling argument. I guess that's made even clearer when you say dude wasn't flowing on the track. Enjoy your makeshift pedestal of hip-hop scope.

Just noticed Esch didn't use the hyphen.

Really want Young Money to beef with Roc Nation it'll be funny because only Cole will respond.

Not happening. There's a history of little jabs being traded between the Roc and YM on various levels but it's not that serious. Wayne and Drake don't seem that tight anymore.

Plus the Roc is too strong for YM, especially if you include Ye with the Roc.
Anyone else think Elliot Wilson is having a personal crisis right now?

Dude must have had his phone off all day, in fear of not being able to sell himself to either MC anymore.
He'll just avoid the bars since this isn't an album release and will continue to dickride both.

Well I'll warn you. I'm bias so

Drake has good flow and great hooks. He connects with a larger audience. I like that he's emotional sometimes too. I think he talent both inside the studio as well as finding them. His collaboration are pretty much all dope and it's almost as if he can do no wrong. He does have some cheesy lines here and there but he's Drake so it's expected.

Kanye is just all around better. I love Kanye flow, lyrics, his cockiness. He's controversial, broken, and speaks some real truth sometimes. He's very raw.. I just.. Yeah.. I'm a yeezy lover. He may be crazy here and there, hypocritical too, but his music is just true. Kanye is everything.. Yup I said it.

Agreed though Wayne seems weak right now and therefore his entire team just doesn't seem united or as strong as they were a few years ago. Not even the Khaled machine really worked last year. They might try something to sell records, yeah roc got the heavyweights and intially I would have said they wouldn't even care but having thought about I guess if YM try it as a collective then they will be forced to.

Wayne's about to release a single with Ye and someone else, isn't he?

Anyways, the Carter V hype isn't nearly what it was for Carter IV even, and it's supposed to hit in a few months. They could spin it like they did for Em's Recovery following all the shit that happened with him in the hospital to generate some excitement, but it doesn't even seem like they're doing that.

Nah Wilson probably called Drake 10 times today begging for an interview. Fuck that corny ass 40 year old.

PD is right, nothing is coming from this. If Drake tries to get at Hov or the Roc he's going to get his wings clipped.

Don't forget there's tension between Wayne and Drake. Just last week Wayne said nobody is fucking with Kendrick, which seems like a pretty odd thing to say when Drake is on your squad.

Drake is gonna leave YM sooner or later.

Nah he doesn't work well over a lot of the beats. Personally I thought Show Me What You Got was vintage Jay, I enjoyed it. But the album also has some of the worst beats Jay had rapped over (at that point).

Not really a fan of Show Me What You Got, but I always felt that lyrically KC is a solid effort. The production was all over the place, and often times it was in the fucking trash. Really strange for a comeback effort.

More garbage from Jay-Z. Dude needed to retire years ago.

But it is kinda neat to see Jay Electronica putting out actual music. Though something tells me we'll still never see an album.

Jay himself said it was his worst album. I forget the song, but one of them was completely awful...nvm....it was LOST ONE. Talk about struggle bars..his flow was at its worst, stunted and off.

His career has paralleled Michael Jordan's pretty accurately lol

People calling this either verse garbage must not get the references. I guess this is why we have rapgenius.

Jay had been an embarrassment for many years, really should have out with the Black Album

If only. Black Album would have been a great way to go out.

I give him props for staying relevant for as long as he has, but I feel like I've taken an ambien when Jay comes on a track now. So boring. Just seems like he's gotten lazy.

Laziness is his biggest problem, has all the money in the world and doesn't really have anything to say. Rapping about high art and things 99.99% of people can't relate to.

He owes his relevancy to Kanye who basically has continued to make him "cool" with the Watch The Throne album and his production. The daft punk/Jay Z song leak was particularly awful and embarrassing

How embarrassing is it that a 44 year old man is rap-battling a 27 year old man? Dude is a father... Don't you have more important shit in your life to do?

Yeah, he could buy 200 of the apartment buildings I live in, sure. But at least I won't ever have to explain to my kid why I spent time recording "diss tracks" when I could have spent that time with him/her in the most important developmental stage in their life instead. What a sad person.

What does age have to do with anything? If this diss actually substantiated to something it could cause such a huge buzz cause they're the two biggest forces in hiphop this moment.

I actually listened to the verse on this track, it's a good jay-z verse.

He should make more music with Jay Electronica more often. I like their Shiny Suit Theory song from a few years back. Meanwhile people posting unreleased music (unreleased for a reason man) or his mediocre tracks.

In the time it took you to write that long ass post you could have actually listened to Hov's verse. Dude is talking about Lupita, 12 years a slave and the oscars. Can't respect your analysis of a GOAT if you're playing up the role of "do you fools listen to music or do you just skim through it."

Yup.

I hope more rappers take shots at Jay-Z if it brings out better music from him. Maybe this is what more rappers need.

As a lurker of the Gaf-Hop thread, these transition threads to OT are always the best. Great song, enjoyed Jay's verse too.

It's funny how Jay is trying to stay on top even though he has been on top in years.

That's how he's been on top all these years. Also a dig by jay at drake to me is a sign drake is falling off. Jay never attacks another rapper who is doing well at that moment. Even when he went at Nas, Nas was semi on hiatus and Jay thought he was weak.

Its the same logic that saw him go at auto tune, dipset, prodigy, and anyone else he's attacked. They have fallen off so its time to strike.

Jay went at prodigy after the Mobb released Murda Muzik their most succesful album commercially, and HNIC which is probably his best solo work. There are shots at 50 Cent all over Vol 3 as well, and that's after How to Rob.

I can't deny that Hov waits for the right time to strike though

You know what, you've got something here regarding Hov's timing with respect to Drake.

Mobb Deep was probably the one other opponent that he attacked at their highest, but I don't see Jay doing that to Drake. Drake is another animal that doesn't compete for the exact same demo as Jay like Mobb did. I think if Jay put out an ether-level track and Drake put out some bullshit he'd still weather the storm. Fanbase too strong, too big, much more loyal. Any ammo Jay has are reasons for why people don't fuck with Drake already, and it would come off pretty petty on Jay's part too, who has been increasingly slipping into this fatherly, everyone-loves-me role in hip-hop.

Even then mobb deep was on the decline, murda muzik was going on 2 years old and HNIC wasn't a mainstream hit. Mobb was on the decline and Jay was just the first one to go for their throats.

Also jay going at 50 on vol.3 isn't the most accurate example. 50 was a nobody really at the time. Its just "how to rob" was so disrespectful everybody said something in reply. Its not like 50 was an up and coming artist, he was a one hit song wonder at that point and his hit song wasn't even a mainstream hit. 50 had to get shot and take over the mixtape game first before he was even a legitimate up and coming rapper.

As for drake, for Jay its not so much stealing fans its about being ahead of the trend. Kendrick did the hard work but if jay thinks that's where the wind is blowing he will be the first one to co-sign. Nas said that too because he knew jay "loves the attention"....
I would quote it but you know the line lol

Prodigy dissed Jay-Z first. He took offense to a line in Jay's Money Cash Hoes w. DMX. "NY been soft ever since Snoop came through and crushed the buildings", referring to a Snoop/Dogg Pound video.

Prodigy said in Source magazine that "Mobb Deep was putting in work during the East-West beef, and Jay-Z Money Cash Hoes line was stupid b/c Jay was quiet like a bitch during that beef."

That's how Prodigy got himself on the summerjam screen and Takeover.
