I couldn't find any butterscotch that wasn't dirty nor click for that matter. I'm not even going to attempt to look for Karma Sutra.
But Milo Manara is an amazing artist worth looking up even if you're prudish.

Everybody's focusing on that part of the comment. :/ Really want I was wanting to focus on was the rest.
Basically I don't want a thread full of anime huge eyes and prebuescent children wearing nothing. I'm not at all saying all Manga has that, but that's more what I'm wanting to avoid. It's not that I don't like stereotypical anime type art, but I also don't want this thread full of it. I mean, there's a metric ton of it out there, and the purpose of this thread was to help me find really good art in comics, not fill it with the stereotypical anime artstyle.
I guess I didn't communicate that very well. Remember, I am a noob to comics.
I really like watercolor comics for the most part.

I didn't mean to possibly mislead; the manga itself is more like this:
That's just one of a number of watercolors Miyazaki did for it.
Not just the creepy, pedo stuff. More the stereotypical style that anime has in general.
Yeah, I figured. That's ok. I just like it when comic artists do that, especially when, though not near as often, they make the whole comic like that, but that's fine.
I think Chettlar has some trouble getting past the black/white nature of manga (which is okay), because when you remove the coloring and shading from lots of these submissions, many of them wind up falling under the umbrella of "realism", which is more pervasive in western comics than any one "style" is dominant in manga.

I was about to say the exact same thing.
I have no problem admitting I'm naive about this kind stuff. Again, it's why I created the thread.
But just saying, coming from a guy who is new to all styles of comics, manga seems to have much more consistency among it's styles than other comics do. Just the impression I get as somebody completely unfamiliar with the art form.
Just as long as the thread has a good variance and great art, we're all good.

One of my favorite aspects of Sandman is the lettering, and Ramadan's is some of the best. It really contributes to the art (and characterization in other parts of the series, though this isn't one of the better examples of that), instead of distracting from it. Todd Klein deserves every single one of those Eisners he received for that series.

I liked the art in The Kindly Ones, though it did have to grow on me at first. I think I'm a minority opinion on that point, anyway.

I know tastes and everything.
But I don't get why Jim Lee gets so much praise on the comics medium, he is very "safe" to me, everyone has the same face and body type. Always uses the same perspectives, in fact, I think he is one of those artists from the 90s that never left that decade.

It was fine in a vacuum... but for an occasion as momentous as the death of Dream, I expected something far more elegant and mature.
I mean, imagine if Zulli did The Kindly Ones. I'm getting wet just thinking about it.

You should definitely check out her debut graphic novel "Anya's Ghost" that's where the character in the first drawing and the comic page are from. It's great.
Super talented, before she started drawing comics she did storyboard work Coraline and ParaNorman if I recall correctly.

Oh man, could you imagine if Batman had a villain who was just a straight up naked dude? Like Poison Ivy doesn't ever seem to wear clothes, you just have this dude who is naked all the time and doesn't care. I wonder whether he'd be as popular.

Since you don't really want it, I won't actually post the art, but if you like good, well drawn comic art I would recommend two manga series (that both really contrast) - Battle Angel Alita (aka Gunnm) and Gunsmith Cats.
Battle Angel Alita (the original manga series, not Last Order - the latter's OK, but I think the original's better) is a very grim, sci-fi story, centering around a young girl who finds she has deep memories of an ancient, devastating martial art. The story is about her search for her own memories and what to do with her life, but punctuated with some of the most awesome fight sequences and creatively gory art ever. The art style is obviously manga but very intricate and with beautiful contrast.
Gunsmith Cats is a series set in Chicago, about a bounty hunter who also runs her own gun shop, with her friend who's an explosives expert. It's high on hijinks, but the way that the author renders cars and guns is crazily realistic for a manga. There are some interesting storylines with a lot of insane action. It's pretty addictive once you get into it.
I think you can find both online if you like, or the actual books are pretty easy to find too.
Again, sorry for no images, but I thought that'd at least be a concession to what you've said about only wanting to see comic art, and if you want to check 'em out you can. (It also may have something to do with me having a hard time finding really good pages of Alita uploaded online... lol)
