I need to know: does putting points in both Strength and Dexterity make me do more damage if I'm equipping a sword that scales with both of these stats ? Or does the game only select the attack value of the stat that is higher between the two ?

It goes up with both stats, though Quality scaling doesn't seem all that great in DkS2 to be honest. Better off just going mostly dex and using bleed/poison or mostly STR with just enough Dex to wield whatever weapons you want to use. The Quality scaling doesn't go up a whole lot on a traditional 40/40 STR/DEX build.

whats the best looking armor in the game? I like the ninja armor. #fashionsouls

Personally think Dark Souls 1 had better looking armor..

There's 5 Giant Souls in the game (per run), he drops 1 of them. Having all 5 makes the Vendrick fight very easy.

You don't need to kill the Ancient dragon for the last soul, though. You can simply bonfire ascetic either of the bonfires connected to obtaining the other giant souls. That means either the final bonfire in forest of the giants (right next to the final giant memory), or the first one in the gulch.

are you sure? I thought you couldn't do that. If you've done it though...

Giant Lord
don't fuck around. He killed me on my first try last night and haven't had the chance to try again since, but I'm guessing my turtle strategy isn't going to help me here. When those swings aren't breaking my guard and taking away 3/4's of my health they're draining all of my stamina. Gonna be another fight where I strip my gear and dodge I guess.

Liking DSII's sets more by far - a lot more variety.

Yes, I know. But I think I read that that boss actually doesn't drop any Soul Items. Unless he does, but only if you haven't gotten it via the memory? Someone here earlier complained about the boss on how it didn't give him the item and apparently beating him is just for bragging rights.

Game will tell you if you are banned or not. It's perm, but you can use an item to reconnect (it's in your inventory now. says will re-connect to other worlds). Single use item. Also, while it bans you, it will still allow invasions. lol

Just ask test_account. He/she is our local disconnecter around here. ;)

Thanks, you too Lost Fragment.

How does the game tell me though?? I don't think i have seen any message or anything so i must be ok, luckily it only happened twice but it would be really fucked if that's all it takes.

Guess ill use that bone just in case.

I'm so truly awful at this game. Spent 45 minutes last night getting my ass handed to me time and again by The R
at
A
uthority
, then another half an hour this morning doing the same thing. Optional boss, so I should just walk away and do something else, but dammit, now it's about my pride.

What's special about the old knight's armor?

"Sometimes, just as a thing falls to pieces, it unleashes its last flash of great power..."

That line makes me assume something special happens when it's durability runs low...

Trying to access
Darklurker
.

I've spoken to the
man in the wheelchair
on two occasions - once in Black Gulch and once in Shrouded Ruins. I've heard the third place is in the Gutter, but where exactly?

Secondly, do I have to join the covenant to fight
Darklurker
?

1. the third location is in
Drangleic Castle

2. yes.

Alva or Heide Knight. Alva gets bonus points for not looking ridiculous with the engraved gaunlets.

I really want to be a Heide Knight, how do you get the armor? I heard they drop them in NG+ but is it like, you kill one and it has a random chance of dropping one piece?

Can you just use a Bonfire Aescetic to up the difficulty?

Fuck you (covenant spoiler)
Darklurker
:( Doesn't help it's quite a pain in the ass to get to it.

He is pretty hard as a melee character, but if you have magic or pyromacies it is really really easy. With flame swathes you can get him in 4 or 5 casts.

Recently traded up my mace for the mastodon greatsword, which I'm loving - it's like a pure strength claymore basically. R2 isn't as good, though. Still, I think the range of the mace was holding me back. I could stunlock people with it no problem but I'd always end up whacking them out of range and whiffing.

You're right though, I need practice. Kind of hard to do with finite invasion items. The arena's fine but it's annoying having to co-op bosses in order participate.

The regular R2 sucks, but the forward+R2 lunge is a beast. Doing that while wearing the Alonne Knight set makes me look like Kain from Final Fantasy IV - pretty awesome.

I still much prefer my Greatsword or Giant Club over the Mastodon Halberd, but it's good too.

I wonder if, as a Claymore/Zweihander user, I would benefit more on ditching some DEX for STR (right now Im at 40STR 36DEX).
Also, thinking about moving to Mastodon Greatsword. It has A scaling in STR.

Not sure, I got the chest, leggings, and the greathelm without having to reroll via ascetic. NG+/NG++, of course.

I fucking feel ya man. Respecced to strength/int for that moonlight sword, but can't fucking beat him. One shots me with his freaking laserbeam every goddamn time.
Sounds like you need more VIG. That beam hit me on NG+ and it hit pretty hard but I still had 1/4th of my HP left. Two quick estus and I was fine. ;)

Just doing my pre-invasion stretches at the Iron Keep...

Hahahahaha nice.

Decapitate is the best one.
Haha it's a funny one. I imagine this will be the trolls/scrubs's new favourite gesture, the replacement to "well what is it" and the "point" from Demon's Souls. That and the "that's all me" of course.

I like that you can finally roll-cancel gestures now.

Separating burg and parish? Counting Valley of the Drakes as an actual area which you could do stuff in? Come on now.
Oh, I thought you were talking about areas you could access from the start.
Dat goalpost shifting, eh?

Giant Club = OHKO on stone soldiers and the knights are backstab candy. I didn't have a problem there at all.Never had a weapon even close to breaking the whole game.
Try playing a dex build and get back to me. I couldn't even use the washing pole for the whole A
ncient
D
ragon
fight (had to swap during one of the rare safe moments) because it became at risk mid-way through the boss fight.

Lets face it, people hate soul memory because they can't twink the shit out of a character and then go invade other people's games risk-free. There's no other reason to dislike it.
Or, you know, it fucks up coop? Don't be silly. I have no problem with soul memory having an impact on NG invasions, but it should not affect coop, and based on current experience, it does. Which is all kinds of stupid.

no, you people are all trolling me. That's it. You're all trolling me, theres no rhyme or reaosn why you can find several witbhout depopulating the level, but, I can not. I've even sued an ascetic and still no drop.
FWIW, I depopulated most of the early Iron Keep (pre-Smelter, from dying so often) and got exactly 1 blacksteel kat on my dex. I wasn't farming for it (using coins or item discovery boosting or anything), though. So I don't get those who say it drops like candy, all I ever get are leggings and gauntlets, but I did get 1, so I was happy. That said, now that I dual wield, I hardly ever use it anymore since I don't have enough STR. There are other very good katanas. The blacksteel is the strongest one at 40 dex, but it does not have the very useful R2 thrust. I find the Uchi, Manslayer, Washing Pole to be more useful. Haven't used Darkdrift much yet, I imagine it can be funny in PvP.

Go with the superior dex weapon... curved greatsword! Like your sephiroth!
Nah, Washing Pole is the Sephiroth weapon.

Sin doesn't reset when going to NG+?
It does remove all sin gained in your current playthrough. If you've carried it over to a new playthrough, it's stuck there and can't be absolved.
Uhh what? My experience differs from that. Before moving to NG+, I had apparently sinned, because Cromwell asked for 134k souls for pardoning. I am not sure what my sin is as I had never aggro'd NPCs nor did I use any cracked red eye orb, the only possibility that came to mind was invading the NPC
Licia
.

I refused to pay, moved to NG+. When I got to Cromwell again, he said I had no sin. So uh... whatever it was, it went away by moving to NG+. :S

Was phantom range as bad in Dark Souls 1? Didn't play much PvP before 2. It really doesn't seem like it was as bad.

At least lagstabs aren't near as common, but those still occur sometimes too.
This has been my experience as well. Greatswords and curved greatswords have ridiculous phantom range, especially. In my limited experience it made the poles and claymores from Demon's Souls seem reasonable in comparison. XD

Would it be wise to infuse my Drangleic Sword with Lightning ? I now have 40 Str and 40 Dex, and I'll be dumping points into Faith from now on. What's the soft cap on Faith ?

Also, I have 20 Vigor. Should I have more ? I'm a melee guy.

Yep, I agree. It's a bit more involved but a thrust is a thrust.

About 40 maybe? I'm probably wrong.

Ohhh damn. I always meant to test that, and often kept it in my inventory, but always forgot. I thought maybe it had some sort of hyper mode thing. But I'm guessing it's just flavour text now, otherwise someone would have found something by then.

What ninja armour? Black leather?

So far I really, really like [late game spoilers]
the King's armour. Classy as fuck and the black cape is really nice. My dex wears that along with a wanderer hood and lighter gauntlets and leggings for less weight.
For lighter sets, I dig [late game spoilers] A
gdayne
's set. Very high elemental resistances for the weight.

Too bad these sets require twinkling titanite. Goddamn From, why didn't you have a vendor sell them? At least in NG+, or have Chloanne sell unlimited post-
Nashandra
or something?

I would drop 10 points of Dex and put STR to 50. Although Zwei has better Dex than Str scaling I think, so if the gains are worth it then maybe keep those levels. I just think that a 50 STR 20 DEX build is far superior to a 40/40 quality in Dark Souls 2 if you are going to lean toward the bigger weapons and Straight sword/Greatsword class weapons.

Don't imbue with Lightning unless you have high Faith for the scaling. Rely on pure physical scaling with your STR and DEX. Also, I would rethink leveling Faith and just grind up some more Vigor. If you are mainly Melee, then you are gonna want more HP. Try to get it toward 40-50.

To what are you referring: Vigor or Faith ?

Also, what's the difference between Magic and Enchanted infusions ?
Never infused with those but based on the preview in the infusion menu, it appears that Magic adds magic damage to your weapon (and drops str/dex scaling), whereas Enchanted keeps the weapon's damage completely physical but drops str/dex scaling and adds int scaling...? Not 100% sure though.

Hmm so I found Pate again, and btw I killed te other guy. The mapmaker warned me about him so his neck was mine.

Anywho, in Earthen Peak Pate is next to a door that I need I go around to get, any idea how I do that?

You made a mistake. Don't worry I made the same mistake

Thanks! Zwei is C/C (B/C at +10), although To be fair Im not feeling the new moveset as much as in DS1, and I end up using the Claymore more. Ill probably switch to the Mastodon Greatsword, so Im considering going to 50 STR like you said.

Lol, credits are rolling.

Took me a few tries to beat her and I lost 85k souls I head from the fight before here but in the end she wasn't that hard.

Dragon Chime
worth the 50 faith requirement?

If so I feel like I wasted my skeptic's spices on lowering Sunlight Spear to a 45 faith requirement when I would have needed 50 faith anyway. Oh well.

It's a different weapon type, curved greatsword. I just like it cause it's like a katana for giants.

But worth investing in because it's... better? When you choose not to dual wield? I find shields quite handy, still. I find armor heavy, still, and when I choose a better armor my rolling is shit. So dual wielding... I'm still not sure.
