Point n Click Adventure GAF 2014 No longer in our dreams, memories or just Germany.

I got to admit Critter and Nate's backstory was pretty cool. They're great together. I was tearing up at the end of Critter Chronicles, lol.

Finished Still Life... the game had a great story, too bad they went with an open ending. I'll have to play the sequel some day, but that'll have to wait as my gaming PC is a Macbook Air at the moment...

Then I played Memoria for an hour or two. I can already tell that the game is better written than Satinav, and the first set of puzzles were all logical and interesting. The new voice actors seem to be also better, unfortunately there are also leftovers from Satinav. But the first impressions were very positive.

I didn't realize it was the Cognition crew doing the grunt work. I still haven't played Cognition past the demo of Ep1 but it was reaaaaally clunky in animation and interface. For those that played the Mobeius beta chapters, did it play fairly well?

Finally making my way through my adventure backlog:

Gone Home was superb, hit all the right notes for me. A great experience that did subtlety right.

The Stanley Parable was... not. Interesting concept, charming narrator but ultimately tiring to get through. I really dislike the "repeating" concept a la 999/VLR.

Kentucky Route Zero: Act 1 was awesome. Tons of atmosphere, classic pnc interface, great art and sound direction, pacing and length were perfect. Looking forward to playing Act 2 tonight. I will surely regret playing this game so early, though, as the remaining 3 Acts will probably take years :/

It played better than Cognition in my opinion. But I still don't like Phoenix Online's visual style. But the final version of Moebius does look better than the earlier versions. I just think Jane could have looked harder for a more interesting look for her new game. But she's got a good relationship with the team and they probably come at the right price.

I've been hoping that the reason it's taking so long is because they are just finishing up all three acts and want to release them all at once, but that's probably wishful thinking.

I'll have to check Gone Home. I liked Dear Esther a lot.

Stanley Parable was pretty disappointing in comparison. It was neat, and funny, but repeating the same thing over and over again got old too quickly.

Anyway, I'm still playing Memoria and enjoying it quite a lot. I'm getting pretty close to the end, I think. The plot and gameplay have been solid, very good compared to Satinav, which was ultimately disappointing. There is still some clumsiness in some of the dialogue, telling that this game has been translated to English from some other language by lowest bidder. The voice acting makes it worse, the text would be easier tolerate if this was a SNES RPG...

Agreed about SP. Glad it was only about an hour long.

I had Dear Esther from a bundle last year and gave my code away -_-

Should I source a copy? Is it linear? I vastly prefer my adventures linear and short.

Dave Gilbert, of Wadjet Eye, did an interview with RPS: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2014/03/31/interview-dave-gilbert-on-adventures-blackwell-pixels/

It's about The Blackwell Epiphany and their lovely pixel art and other stuff.

I kind of love Dave Gilbert, GAF.

I wonder how much better Phoenix Online's games would look with ~$3M instead of the small budgets for Cognition and Moebius. Maybe the art style works better when given more room to breathe.

I have only played (or walked) through it once, but I read that it is not completely linear. You get the stories in some semi random way, and the game is slightly different for everyone who plays it. But I think it's not one of those games that you have to play several times to get most out of it, just once should be enough. And maybe again after an year or two, and then get a sightly different version again. That's what I'm planning to do anyway....

The game was pretty short at least, maybe 2 to 3 hours?

Episode 3 ain't coming, Valve made sure of that. Act3-5 to be the sequel.

Dave's fantastic, and he's doing great things with Wadjet Eye. I wonder about your second statement too. If they had the budget and could hire the artists I'm sure they could do some good things. I don't actually mind the background art of their games, especially Moebius which has improved over Cognition. However, the character models/art is just not very good. Awkward even. But it gives it charm, too.

just got gifted A New Begining from a generous gaffer - never played a daedelic game before but i do appreciate their 2d art a lot

anyone play this one before?

Rereading the post, I think it's an April Fool's thing.

that explains it

It's not really a P&C adventure, but I've recently completed Grim Fandango for the 1st time.

Controls took some time getting used to, but it is certainly Tim Schafer's best game.

It's a shame he never got the opportunity to work on a another game set in the same universe...

Atleast I've got Broken Age part 2 to look forward to.

Is there an easy way to play Grim Fandango in Windows 7?

I played it through ResidualVM.

1. Install your copy of Grim Fandango
2. Download & install ResidualVM
3. Download Grim Fandango patch from ResidualVM's site
4. Apply the patch to the game
5. Add Grim Fandango to ResidualVM & play

I've just received a survey from Moebius Kickstarter with a question which game do I want: Moebius or Gabriel Knight 1 Remake (which, according to the survey, won't be out until August/September 2014). There's also a link to Moebius demo. I don't know is it same demo as the one on Phoenix Online Studio store page. The one from the store is 609MB, while the one from Kickstarter is 1.2GB. I'm downloading both of them now.

The Kickstarter one is Chapter 1 and 2, which is different from the other I believe. I started it last night. The gameplay is fantastic, feels likea Jane Jensen game, it seems really glitchy/janky in some parts, specifically character models. But I figured this would be the case from the start.

Can't wait for the complete game. I'm curious if we can use our save from the demo to continue...

Well I'll be damned, of all the days... Gray Matter is now up on Steam.

http://store.steampowered.com/app/260570/

Currently 20% off too.

That's a brilliant game right there. Maybe my favourite out of all these "new" point and click games, even though some of the more surreal segments felt a bit out of place.

Just finished Memoria. I think the game was really good all things considered. I preferred the past story to the present story by a large degree, but the present story wasn't all that bad either. It's mainly the characters that were much better in the past story. Bryda was very good tho.

Anyone have the e-mail for Viva Media so I can ask them how I can get my hands on a Steam code? I got the game off Amazon over a year ago lol.
BTW anyone making an OT for Moebius? I sadly have been on media Blackout on it and am rather lazy to make a thread for it ^^;

Gray Matter is the best adventure game I've played since the 90s. The animation is janky, but really good storyline, good puzzles and fantastic music. It's essentially Gabriel Knight 4 (and hopefully Mobieus is psuedo-GK5 ;) )

Yea, Gray Matter is really underrated. Great adventure with some minor drawbacks. Excellent story and music. Good mix of puzzles, perhaps the magic system is oversimplified, but it still works well in the game.

I'm still hoping for a Gray Matter 2 some day. It'd be great to see Moebius to take off, as well. Fans of Jane's games won't be disappointed - Moebius is another solid entry in Jane's lineup.

Yep, I'd love a Gray Matter 2 or Gabriel Knight 4 as their next project. And if Mobieus turns out great, Mobieus 2 would be fine as well :)

What would make GM2 or GK4 work is the lead characters in both (Sam & David), (Gabriel) are great characters that would always be fun having new stories with. Hopefully Richter is as good as those. I read one of Jensen's novels a few years ago after playing Gray Matter and the characters in that were great too. She really has a penchant for writing interesting characters and suspenseful mysteries. I'm really excited for Mobieus, I just hope the shorter development time for it doesn't mean it's a short 5-6 hour game. Her GK and GM games were pretty meaty adventures, which were great. Though I'm sure even if Mobieus is smaller in size, it'll be paced accordingly and good.

It really seems like it will be lengthy. There is a lot of meat to the gameplay. Reminds me of a Frogwares Sherlock Holmes game. Good mini-game systems that help pad out the classic point and click gameplay. I don't think any Jane Jensen fan will be disappointed so long as they can be lenient on the technical quality of the game.

I'm really stoked for the full release. And I absolutely love Gray Matter. That price is excellent, people should really pick it up.

I'll be making a 'Moebius Discussion Thread' which will act as the OT for the game. Too lazy to make a full fledged OT for the game I'm sad to say.
Expect the thread to be up soonish so that others can make use of the pre-orders.

It's possible my computer just sucks for this.
