If the 'Customization' rumor is true, then it would make sense that he's devoting a whole direct to the mii.
I'll try to find my source for the rumor, but it basically goes that the 'Mii' is to characters what 'Stage editor' is to stages. Through gameplay (and also AR cards), you unlock items and costumes, which you can then use to edit the mii, which changes both appearances and moves. Like custom stages, you can also disable someone picking 'Mii' in case they are 'broken' or 'imbalanced.'
If the rumor is true, it requires a bit more than a short trailer or some miiverse pictures to fully explain in detail.

He could be wrong on the month of the direct, which might make tomorrow's direct include what the rumor said.
The person who posted that said Little Mac and Rosalina were Assist Trophies in an extra post on that thread.

There is...

...showing that Smash Bros. will still be released by the end of 2014. If Mr. Iwata announces a delay into 2015, it will be a sudden thing.
Not to mention that having a Nintendo Direct to announce a delay would be utterly ridiculous. That's the sort of thing you hide in press releases.
