Captain America: The Winter Soldier |OT| "Before we get started...

This movie should have been great, but with all the shaky cam it was merely good. I'm pretty there was some really cool action stuff happening behind all the jerking and close-in shots. The rest of the movie was very entertaining, though.

It doesn't. It collates information about people to determine the likelihood of them being a potential problem to Hydra. That's the aspect of it that makes it particularly evil. I mean killing all those people is definitely evil but the fact that it targets people that may not even ever be a problem takes it a step beyond that.

It's like Minority Report... but it would target people well before they even had the thought.

The actor has like an 8 film deal with marvel. It's not a stretch to see
an arc where he takes over as captain America, especially since Evans is not a huge fan of the role and wants to be done with it. Kill off Evans or have him go missing, have Bucky take over the role temporarily, then bring cap "back" with a new actor playing Rogers.
 
I watched it today. It was a good movie, much better than the first.

Did anyone else notice that in the ship scene
when Captain America fights the bad guy he puts down his shield then rams him through the door, and when the bomb explodes he magically has his shield again?

Batroc called him out, he took off his helmet and placed the shield on his back.
 
question about after credits scene and upcoming films:
since those are xmen characters...how do they have powers? experiments? I highly doubt we're gonna hear the word 'mutant' uttered outside of xmen. Since Thanos was teased in avengers 1, yet avengers 2 is about ultron, and they keep teasing the infinity gems every movie, is he gonna be mentioned or play a role in GOTG?

I think Thanos has been confirmed to appear in Guardians of the Galaxy, though maybe just as a cameo. And also probably in Avengers 3.

As for QS and SW, I think they'll probably be experiments or made via Loki's staff or super serum or maybe they'll just handwave it. I highly doubt they'll go into much detail given how much stuff has to happen in Avengers 2.

Is he really that down on playing Cap? Seems so odd watching a movie where you know someone doesn't want to be there. It's why playing MGS games is so hard.

No. In a recent interview he talked about being proud of the Cap films, which is something he couldnt say about the F4 movies. He's said he's happy that Cap has allowed him more opportunities, but he was worried about taking another superhero role and feels some sort of sadness that his smaller dramatic films aren't really seen. I think he's a bit sore about that more than anything.

No, he actually appreciates it. He simply didn't want to commit to a 9 pictures deal. Even Sebastian Stan cringed when he was asked about it. Let's face it, no actor in their right mind like to play the same role that many times. Because of Evans' reluctance, as a way to ensure that he signed on as Cap, Marvel agreed to make it a 6 pictures deal instead. I'm pretty sure Downey also only agreed to a 6 pictures deal.

Chris Evans is not retiring from acting (thank God, he's my fave) he's just going to put a bit more attention on directing after done with his Marvel contract. He even mentioned possibly "staying in front of the camera" in his Marvel universe and he likes playing Cap (and is AMAZING at it) and has mentioned numerous times how grateful he is at the doors Cap/Marvel has opened for him.

Maybe he'll direct a Marvel film at some point! :)
 
Well I just got done watching "The Incredible Hulk" and it was fucking horrible. The best part was the beginning as the film shows how awesome Brasil is. After they leave Brasil the film is horrible.

I was flipping channels last night and Not Another Teen Movie was on. Crazy now to think that was his first movie. Not too many actors I'm aware of start their careers in a parody movie like that and end up getting something as big as his role as Cap. And they very nearly passed him up due to his role in FF.

Even the Brazil bit is marred by the fact that for some bizarre reason they thought that Bruce Banner, expert fugitive, would decide to wear a bright red sweatshirt when he knows a bunch of military guys are after him.

He shouldn't even own a bright red sweatshirt.

You guys are too harsh on Norton's Hulk, come on the fight scenes against Abomination are amazing, Thunderclap and a Hulk Smash??

Come on now. It's not spectacular but it was entertaining. When are we getting a Ruffalo solo Hulk Movie? Phase 3?

Kevin Feige denied this not too long ago. The Incredible Hulk was made without including the origin story because of the fact that it may have felt like a rehash since there were only 5 years inbetween the films. However due to the fact that the origin during the opening credits has a similar plot-structure to the first film many assume the 2003 Hulk film is cannon, which it isn't.

IGN: I was wondering, can you absolutely confirm that Ang Lee's Hulk movie is not canon, because there was just the news today about Adrian Pasdar playing Glenn Talbot in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.?

Feige: Well, look, I would say that is not MCU canon, but when we made The Incredible Hulk, we didn't want to tell the origin story again, because we thought people were so familiar with it, which is why we didn't tell that. But you saw the way in which he was exposed to the gamma radiation in Ang Lee's version from the way you saw Bruce Banner was in the opening title sequence of The Incredible Hulk. So they're different. One reason we made Incredible Hulk was to get Hulk into the MCU canon.

I did not expect Captain America 2 to be this good holy shit! One of my favourite marvel films of all time and so much more thrilling to watch then others given how vulnerable he is.

Ranks up there with the best. Both iron man 3 and captain America 2 were great movies.

I couldn't get over how awesome this guy was to watch fighting, lack of lazers, super powers kept me glued as he was completely unpredictable.
 
I skipped out on The Incredible Hulk for years and only watched it for the first time last year. I had no problems with it. Maybe the years of hate for it lowered my expectations, but I enjoyed it quite a bit. As much as any of the rest of the movies.
 
Very good and very enjoyable. A bunch (12) of us went and we all enjoyed it.

I want to see it again.

Also. The 3D was fantastic. They did a excellent post convert job.

I know folks on here don't like 3D but you are luddites and your levels of stupidity are beyond reason.
 
Saw it tonight. My mind was blown, great acting, great fight scenes, badass villains(
that winter soldier, god damn Bucky!
). Overall I give it a 9/10. I even enjoyed Johansson, oddly. It left me wanting more but I was fully satisfied. A perfect combo

I rewatched the film recently and remembered this complaint from one of the MCU related threads, so i paid close attention to that part and counted over two dozen people (male and female) wearing red tops or t-shirts just during the favela chase scene, more if we consider the scenes before that. Wearing something bright red, yellow, or blue seems to be a fairly good way to blend into the crowd in the favela, and the sweathsirt wasn't even that bright, it seemed fairly washed out in comparison. I'd say him wearing the hood on his head was more conspicuous than the colour.

I don't know man, this seems like a minor nitpick to me, but far be it from me to defend the film, it has enough other problems. What bothered me the most was the rushed pacing. I wonder what Norton's cut would have been like, did it ever come to light what exactly was cut?

People were wearing bright things, yes, but this is Brazil and that was a sweatshirt. However, I just don't think Banner would even have any bright clothing because he typically doesn't want to draw attention to himself. The entire rest of the movie, he wears fairly drab stuff... just that one scene. So, even ignoring broader canon characterization and sticking to the continuity of the movie, it seemed off.

It just really bugged me.

As for Norton's cut, Peter David actually did a novelization of the movie where he added back in all of Norton's cut scenes. Haven't read it yet, but Peter David did write one of the best Hulk runs ever, so I'd guess it's probably a pretty decent rendition.
 
OK I've seen like 4 different versions just on this page. Does Chris Evans hates playing Captain America and plans to retire? Is it because everyone calls him Captain America now =(

He likes being Captain America. He hates the training to be Captain America. He'd like to direct some when his Marvel deal runs out.

Aaah that makes sense, he looks insane as Captain America, huge arms. I'm happy he is staying, he makes a great Steve Rogers.

Also I have to hand it to Marvel man (besides the hulk), the casting had being on point, even lame characters like Loki, Thor and Captain America had become awesome because of the casting.

Fair enough. Although, the fact that he was wearing more subdued clothes later on could be explained with the change of environment. Blending in on a campus or in New York City is different than doing the same in a favela. But i can understand if it bugged you.

Thanks for the info about the novelization, that sounds interesting. Maybe i can find something about the added material online.

Hmmm... not sure I believe that. It's close enough (the locations being the same, etc) that most would assume that it's a direct continuation.

Besides, if most people assume it's "canon", it's probably best to go with the grain and include it as part of the continuity. It's not that far off, even if Marvel isn't impressed with the film.
 
Hulk 03 isn't canon. People use the Brazil ending as some proof of continuation while ignoring how different everything else is -- the origin itself being one of the biggest examples.
 
Its crazy how big these superhero movies are. I mean comics have been dead for years. It seems that these characters are now iconic for their films rather than their comic entries.

Finally saw this movie in IMAX where I work. Ok, the 3D was meaningless :(

Having said that. Boy this is a top tier comic movie. Perhaps my favorite of all time now. Then again that can just be the good vibes coloring my judgment. Still top tier though.

My favorite part of the movie is how the fight scenes are so fucking well done. I said damn. There are so many countless fight scenes in other comic movies that are so dull and poorly shot. Makes me think people take the lazy route. This movie just annihilates all other movies in that department.

Such an entertaining movie. I demand that all future marvel movies be directed by whoever the fuck was responsible for this movie.
 
Saw this in imax 3d last weekend with my wife. Absolutely loved the movie (coming from a guy that thought cap was one of the more boring Avengers). I place this movie above all of the other solo movies, and maybe even over Avengers. Cap 2 had me on the edge of my seat (and I even read the spoiler thread first). Can't wait to see what happens next! Can't say enough good things about it! Also, anyone here check out the movie soundtrack? Any opinions? I'm always looking out for some new workout music (like the avengers theme and pacific rim soundtrack).

Taking a Stand for working out.

Captain America & The Winter Soldier theme are great too.
 
Just came back from the cinema. Thought this was much, much better than the first movie, but not one without several problems. However, the good stuff first.


- Felt less of a live-action cartoon..
- Some pretty good action scenes that were well-shot
- The Winter Soldier made for a formidable villain for the most part.
- Some interesting plot twists.
- Little reliance on CGI wankery.

Now, the bad;

- The cliches! For the life of me, why can't
People in the Marvel universe STAY DEAD? There's little to no sense of loss with these films, and Fury returning was a complete no-brainer

- While the movie made good use of the villain and the action scenes he was involved in were all well done for the most part,
his reveal felt like a wasted opportunity, and he became more of a side character in less than no time.

- Can do without the snappy exchanges for once!

- Massive cheapshot labelled at Pakistan. Seriously, writers?

Overall, still an entertaining movie, but not something more or relevant. Marvel movies have a long way to go for me to care for their characters.

Bring on Spiderman and X-Men!
