When did they ever say that though?

He just says they planned it, but it was never announced to be 60, never shown running at anything other than 30, there was no reason to suspect a change really.
 
A Very Good decision by Evolution. The PS4 will have an outstanding 1080p/60fps simulation racer when GT7 Prologue shows up in 2015. Sony doesn't need two 60fps sim racers. With DriveClub aimed for a broader audience and an easier driving model, sticking to 30fps and making it the most visually stunning game they can will help attract that broad audience.

While they are many folks who will complain that all racers have to be 60fps, the facts make that statement a lie. Dozens of 30fps arcade racers have been successful in the history of gaming. If you are doing a sim racer, then yes, I would agree that 60fps is a requirement. Fortunately, those looking for 60fps sim racers will have excellent options: pCars coming in Nov of 2014 and GT7 Prologue (late 2015?).

It's not about looking smoother, it's about playing better. Racing games play better at 60 fps.

Driveclub is an arcade racer.

Evolution's last racer, Motorstorm, aimed for a much broader audience than Driveclub and yet that game still had 60fps. So this idea of 60fps not attracting a broader audience is silly.

There have also been dozens of 60fps arcade racers that have been successful in the history of gaming. I'm not understanding your point at all.

Rollcage and Rollcage Stage 2 on the PS1 - two of the most fastest, exhilarating racing games I've heard the pleasure of playing. Both were 30fps and it didn't make a blind bit of difference.

Not really, unfortunately. 60fps racers were far and few between on the tail end of last gen. Driver: San Francisco was one of the last ones I can remember.

edit: Oh, double negative. We're in agreement.
 
Are we really that surprised though?
I mean come on look at the system's spec did we really expect to have 1080p/60fps with full eye-candy?

Because I sure as hell wasn't when I saw the specs simply because that GPU is close to my 7970M and even the latter struggles to maintain 60fps with a lot of games with everything maxed out.

It's funny how Wii U fans praised two 30fps racers (Sonic Transformed, NFS MWU) before Mario Kart and now 30fps is an unplayable slideshow for racers

This is purely a marketing choice, not a choice for the good of the game. It will look better in screenshots and videos than Forza for example. But play worse.

Ye I guess. I wonder what the game looks like at 60 fps. Would it be that noticeable?

People notice 30 and 60, well most I think but I don't notice less flair etc in a racer.

What do people notice more? fps or graphical flair?

I wouldn't say this is totally true. The general public might not know the difference but they do know the difference between an excellent product and mediocrity .

Something like Call of Duty 4 wouldn't have broken a million sales if it didn't have 60 FPS gameplay.
 
Anyone recall what fps RalliSport Challenge was on xbox? I played the hell out of that game. I seem to be a 60fps snob lately but if that was 30 then I'm good.

I just can't deal with framerates that can be achieved with this:

At least the demo is "free" on PS+ but it's not like it comes with free bucket to puke in so I'll probably skip it.

But it's really an unfair comparison because PGR was a last gen game, and an early last gen game too. It could be acceptable for DRIVECLUB to be 30fps if it still was released last year, but they had additional time to work on the game and it's on the most powerful current gen console.

was pgr2 30fps? that's the best console arcade racer of all time, and if it can manage that feat with 30fps, then driveclub will be alright.

The second sentence is of course, complete bullshit, but the first one I think is true. I think people tend to prefer 60fps even if they're unable to articulate why.

It runs and looks smoother, but that's about it for me...so do elaborate on the better part.

Disappointing but not surprising. At least they're updated motion blur is of very high quality. PGR4 proves to me that you can still do a great racer at 30 fps. As long as your post-fx are up to snuff it can work.

I'd take eyecandy for racers as that is 90% of that they are especially arcade games as the physics and content don't change all that much. So graphic effects and scale are the only way to go!

I would prefer 60 but if that would mean cutting back on the lighting, atmosphere effects and such then I would rather have it at 30 tbh.

I mean look at Forza (I haven;t played it myself). Great looking game and I think it looks great especially for 60 fps but it means low AA, less effects, 2D crowds and such also I've read it is kinda choppy at times but I dunno :) Nevermind what game they produce it will always have negatives that will be hypboled into game breaking such as poor LODs, 30fps mirrors or blurry textures.

Hopefully they do that decoupling voodoo like Hot Pursuit did with fps/input latency.
 
I'd have prefered 60fps but I'll still buy it. When it comes to games that I want play I'm a weak individual who can't vote with his wallet.

In the end nobody will skip the game because is 30fps or 45fps or 60fps. The only reason to skip if it is a shit game.
My opinion.
