Driveclub director - 1080p/30FPS is absolutely the best for our game

has it been mentioned anywhere if the PS+ version is still happening?

From IGN interview with Rushy:
"The PS Plus Edition will still be out, along with the Blu-Ray and digital edition and what it’ll offer is a cut-down version of the content," he explains. "So you won’t get all the cars, you won’t get all the tracks, but you still get all the key features: you’ll be able to play online, multiplayer races, you’ll be able to join a club, create connections, attend challenges and even play through part of the single-player game and unlock Trophies as well."

Somewhat disappointing but it's kind of hard to be a bitch about something essentially free.

Hopefully they'll offer an attractive discount for the complete version as an option.
 
This is not a sim game where 60fps is a must . This is an arcade racer.
Some of the cockpit footage shows a very competent handling model - it's not going for accuracy, but it's certainly realistic enough to benefit from more responsiveness, particularly if you're going to play it with a wheel.
 
Great job. That's the quote FROM LAST MARCH, when pCARS was slated for WiiU, PS3 and X360. Soon after, two old consoles were dropped and PS4 and Xbone became new console targets. Game director mentioned that they will strive to reach 1080p60.

I had fun with Forza Horizon so I'm sure I'll have fun with Driveclub (if it's a good game). As long as the frame-rate is better than NFS Rivals bullshit 30fps..

EDIT: Thank god it has a chance of being 60FPS on PS4 in any case. I wouldn't want to deal with the moral impact of hearing people die over playing it in VR without decent framerate.
 
Either they are not confident with the gameplay and just want people to but it solely on the looks or they are confident on the gameplay and think that 60fps isnt needed.

It should be played on PC anyway.

Shaking my head so hard it hurts. So I guess Super Mario 3D World is useless in 60fps, since you only "jump around"? Or even fighting games, where you just "press some buttons" to defend and attack?

Please find my post where I said Wii U owners were praising those games for being 30fps. I said they were praising those racing games (and they just happen to be 30fps) since now you wanna act like 30fps is unplayable. Get some reading glasses noob.

It's an arcade racer so sure you can probably get by with 30, but I was really hoping it was bumped to 60.

For the love of god please lock the framerate no judder in racing!

I really wish all the games now to be 30 fps just to see some of you people pissed off. Then we will see what you people do. Maybe leave the consoles and go to pc and make everyone happy when people stop complaining over some stupid shit like this that 95% of the people outside gaf and internet forums don't even care about
 
It also makes me super curious how GT will look because presumably that will go for 60fps, plus the modelling and lighting gods at Polyphony will do their magic, but they will still have a lower power budget per frame to work from.

For Polyphony, 60 fps seems to be a soft target :/
 
Disappointing, especially after a year delay... But I still loved Forza Horizon and PGR, so it isn't the end of the world.

If it's still going to be 30fps... then why the year delay?

Content like Evolution and Shu already stated. The game was never shown running at anything other than 30 so people throwing around the "disappointed" word are a little confusing to me.

Thanks for the info! I knew about it being a stripped down version, but that way I'll get to see whether the game is worth dishing out full price for.
 
I think it's clear that the engine they created for GT5 and 6 is very much ready for PS4. They implemented so many visual features that needed to be pared down or too greatly impacted the performance levels. It felt as if the engine never had a chance to stretch its legs on PS3. I think they'll actually have an easier time getting up and running this time around.

Yeah but the visual density of Driveclub is far above anything in GT6.Sure the tracks in GT will not be as big as those in driveclub but GT is Sony's graphics flag and it comes with the expectation of being the best looking racer.But the problem is it also comes with the expectation of running 60fps (especially since Forza managed to achieve that on a supposedly inferior hardware) so i think Polyphony is in a very tight spot right now.
 
I'm really glad they stuck to 30fps. Folks on here want that quality of graphics running at smooth 60fps at 1080p are simply being unrealistic and dreaming. This is a PS4 not a high end PC.
Cut back your unrealistic expectations and give the devs some slack.

Besides the beginning of this paragraph, which is really lame, since you wished things for other people for no justifiable reason, some people already did the bolded, and that will not solve the problem. Why do you think console wars exist? Do you think that some few people leaving for PC will make al the "console warriors" drop their weapons when the next Halo or Uncharted get slowdowns or bad textures? Keep dreaming.
 
The Show 14 opened my eyes as to how much a serious graphics improvement to things outside of the main game can make something look incredible. If he is right that the 30fps is a trade-off for a much more immersive world and tracks, this could be worth it. Can't wait to find out!
 
Locked 30 FPS is more important to me than variable 60 FPS.

If it's jumping around, than I'm not fine with it.

All the shit forza gets for its cardboard cutout crowds (which no one sees unless you use the fantastic inbuilt recording/screen tools), but at least they managed to deliver 60 fps racing.

Makes me wonder if the next forza will amp up the track details and tone down the fps.

That's not even close to being the only compromise they made to hit 60. Game looks like ass compared to DC.

Still though, I think I'll be sticking with the free version. Is Project Cars hitting 60, or is that gonna disappoint as well?
 
Is sacrificing smoother gameplay for prettier visuals going to be the trend in this generation of consoles?

The arcade vs sim argument did not stop people from comparing DC to Forza when both games were being showcased before the release of the systems. Things like dynamic weather, shadows, hell.. even the sun on Forza was being criticized. Let's not be hypocritical here. Compare away.
