Driveclub director - 1080p/30FPS is absolutely the best for our game

Everyone else? I only played the WiiU version, and it was bad due to boats and planes, not due to FPS.
Whaaaat? The boats and planes were fantastic. Probably my favorite kart racer to date, honestly.

Man Polyphony has some extreme pressure upon them right now...i don't envy them.Really hope they have the technical power to take on the challenge of 1080p/60fps without sacrificing the visual density of the game.
I think it's clear that the engine they created for GT5 and 6 is very much ready for PS4. They implemented so many visual features that needed to be pared down or too greatly impacted the performance levels. It felt as if the engine never had a chance to stretch its legs on PS3. I think they'll actually have an easier time getting up and running this time around.

Responsiveness?
Lol . In a racing game where all u do is go left and right ? Yeah i don't think so

If you are that sharp to complain about missing some frames in a racing game then maybe you need to stop playing video games and go race in real life.

This is not a sim game where 60fps is a must . This is an arcade racer. And the funny thing is that online. Your lag internet connection will have a bigger impact on your driving more than the fps count in the game.

I am not saying you have bad internet connection but everyone has a certain lag.

I'd be curious what 'framerate' the physics and inputs work at. It is possible to have your physics still be 60Hz or higher while your graphics are rendering at 30fps. Likewise you could sample your inputs at 60Hz too.

Turn 10 did this for Forza 1 and 2 where they polled controller input and ran physics at double the framerate, but they chose to go with 60fps with 3 and on for a reason. There's just nothing like 60fps, even with great blur.

So I'm just imagining Wii U GAF praising the fuck out of Sonic Transformed and NFS MWU when the system had no games?

So how about showing us some posts of Wii U owners praising those games for being 30 FPS then? I know it would actually be hard for you to back up your bullshit with actual evidence though.

If you'd told me that we'd be getting 30fps driving games on next gen consoles a year ago I would not have believed you. I'd like something that feels like burnout paradise, I don't care about smudges on the windscreen ffs.

But it's really an unfair comparison because PGR was a last gen game, and an early last gen game too. It could be acceptable for DRIVECLUB to be 30fps if it still was released last year, but they had additional time to work on the game and it's on the most powerful current gen console.

PGR4 wasn't really an early last gen title and was till 30fps. 30fps isn't nearly as bad as some suggest it is, especially if the motion blur is implemented well and it's 'locked' to 30fps.

And to be fair, this still is a launch title (albeit delayed), they had the 30fps figure in mind when development started and so built the engine and the game around hitting that number with no drops. A sequel might aim for 60fps, but 30fps was their original vision and I don't really have a problem with that.

How does a game play "better" at 60fps?

Faster controller response.

It's struck me that it's concievably possible to have a game which runs two game logic updates for every one display update, giving you 60fps gameplay yet you only see half the frames.

I can't figure out if that'd actually be worth doing, though!

Told you.

All those that questioned me in the other thread. Time for you to eat crow.

I can't believe this guy set himself up to eat so much crow.

30 is Native across all consoles. Wii-U is the only confirmed resolution so far.

http://mynintendonews.com/2013/03/18/project-cars-for-wii-u-runs-at-720p-30fps-looks-feels-amazing/

“We always prefer to aim for 30fps generally in order to keep gameplay-specific features like having more cars on track or better weather effects etc.”

“So that’s standard across all consoles, and we’re more likely to utilize the native 720p support of the Wii U for launch especially since our physics and rendering systems demand a lot of processing power in order to deliver a truly next-gen experience.”

“All you need to know is that when you get the game, it’ll look and feel amazing and you’ll want to show it off to your friends.

if you multiply 111.111.111 with 111.111.111 the result is 12345678987654321 .. that´s nice..

30fps is a number... and it´s nice.. if it is nice in this particular game, only time will tell.

Gamepad/Wheel inputs are usually collected with very high frequency [~1000hz]. That is not problem. Problem is user seeing changes on the screen fast enough.

This is total bullshit and you know it. Nintendo fans have been praising Nintendo for making most of its franchises run at 60 FPS to ensure the best gameplay for over 20 years.

F-Zero X is perhaps a good example, making clear (and I'd say noticeable!) graphical sacrifices but running 30 drivers at 60fps.

It does look comparatively poor, so it's perhaps a reasonable benchmark for the sacrifices required at that time.

Haters gonna hate.
In the end nobody will skip the game because is 30fps or 45fps or 60fps. The only reason to skip if it is a shit game.
My opinion.
But let's complain!!!!!!!!

I've seen in this very thread people saying they're not getting a 30fps racer.

Don't care. Still hyped.

Tbh I was expecting this, and as long as it's fluid with no drops, I'm cool with it. Just make sure that the rest of the technical stuff is ironed out, Rushy. Pop-in and such. ;)

Like this?

After viewing the trailer, I'm inclined to agree. Most gorgeous racer I've seen.

I feel like this is a problematic (but understandable) attitude, marketing does not reward or benefit from the content being 60fps - the majority of what we consume pre-launch is 30fps streaming video or still screenshots.

So the benefits of 60fps on a purely graphical level are not even visible through conventional marketing, the gameplay benefits of 60fps will never be felt until the game is in your hands, so with the front loaded film-style market we've created it really is publisher/developers best interests to run at 30fps if they plan on a heavy pre-release marketing push.

At least Rushy gives a straight answer, I appreciate that. It's totally unsurprising, but deep down I was hoping for a minor miracle. The last 30fps racer I played was Split Second and it just felt really terrible. Racers have such fast motion that for me 60fps is almost a requirement for the genre, in them 30fps feels slower and jerkier than it usually does.

At least DriveClub looks good enough to justify its framerate, but a racing studio should always strive for 60fps instead of prettier graphics.

Please find my post where I said Wii U owners were praising those games for being 30fps. I said they were praising those racing games (and they just happen to be 30fps) since now you wanna act like 30fps is unplayable. Get some reading glasses noob.
