Driveclub director - 1080p/30FPS is absolutely the best for our game

As I said before once, the framerate in those videos is 30fps and it looks smooth as silk. If that is how it looks running at 30fps, how is that a problem?

But yeah, visual fidelity in a racer is far more important the the frames occuring each second while I push left and right on my analog stick.

I purposefully drop my PC racing games like Grid 2 down to 30fps and pump up the visual effects anytime I play them. Never had an issue vs. playing at 60fps.

Is sacrificing smoother gameplay for prettier visuals going to be the trend in this generation of consoles?

This is disappointing.

It's always been this way. without sounding too trolly, If you want both you buy a decent PC because you can just throw hardware at the problem.

“We always prefer to aim for 30fps generally in order to keep gameplay-specific features like having more cars on track or better weather effects etc... So that’s standard across all consoles"

Great job. That's the quote FROM LAST MARCH, when pCARS was slated for WiiU, PS3 and X360. Soon after, two old consoles were dropped and PS4 and Xbone became new console targets. Game director mentioned that they will strive to reach 1080p60.

I'm tired of Polyphony mismanagement, so I really looking forward to this game.

Content like Evolution and Shu already stated. The game was never shown running at anything other than 30 so people throwing around the "disappointed" word are a little confusing to me.

Are you confused with people being disappointed with 30fps? my reaction is totally opposite, because I see lot of people being okay with the 30fps for the racing game, that's coming out one year late on the best console.

From IGN interview with Rushy:

Somewhat disappointing but it's kind of hard to be a bitch about something essentially free.

Hopefully they'll offer an attractive discount for the complete version as an option.

I thought that when they announced the PS+ version they said you could play through the full game but just not have all the cars or tracks, sucks that now it is only part of the sp game.

By comparing an arcade racer to a sim one. Yeah sure call that a preference

I play all kinds of racers and don#t care if it's sim or arcade. I am only going to buy one though, so I am more likely to pick up the one which gives me a smooth 60fps experience. Driveclub would really need to blow my socks of to convince me otherwise.

The arcade vs sim argument did not stop people from comparing DC to Forza when both games were being showcased before the release of the systems. Things like dynamic weather, shadows, hell.. even the sun on Forza was being criticized. Let's not be hypocritical here. Compare away.

Now those comparision are even more painful when we know the framerate of each game. People should chill down with these things.

Well that's that then.

I do not think I can ever play another racer at 30 fps.

If there is a demo though I may change my mind.

30fps for an arcade racer? No thanks.

Locked 30 with good motion blur and Visuals and GI that is No1 right now in Racing games then I am more than happy.

I WOULD have preferred 60 but that was my heart..my head always said looking at this game and that Lighting that it had to be 30..I am sure once in my PS4 and playing I will just marvel at it.

Now set-up a Photo and Gif mode .....PLEEEAAASSSEEE!!

These consoles are disappointing.

What in the....What in these visuals is disappointing?

Why do people act like 60 FPS is all of a sudden less valid for Arcade racers? Aren't Arcade racers super fast paced/twitch based in comparison to realistic racers?

People that think arcade racers don't need 60fps are probably children that never actually played an arcade racer.

Besides the beginning of this paragraph, which is really lame, since you wished things for other people for no justifiable reason, some people already did the bolded, and that will not solve the problem. Why do you think console wars exist? Do you think that some few people leaving for PC will make al the "console warriors" drop their weapons when the next Halo or Uncharted get slowdowns or bad textures? Keep dreaming.

Dude the whole console war is bs. Wtf some people need to grow up. Every console has his positives and negatives.

Also. The the topic about picking a game that is almost completely different type of racing because of fps. That is just sad.

Why not say i am buying drive club and buy tekken because dc isnt 30 fps while we at it. This is just sad.

I am out of this debate. I just want this game to be great because i like the online concept of it

By comparing an arcade racer to a sim one. Yeah sure call that a preference

Maybe leave the consoles and go to pc and make everyone happy when people stop complaining over some stupid shit like this

we're not allowed to complain about something we don't believe is right? cool

I think Driveclub had potential. I thought the year long silence would be a isgn saying that these guys are going for 60FPS. Instead they went with the "broader" approach and just made the game prettier. Good for others, but I couldn't care less about visual flair. So, no, Driveclub won't be getting my money. I'd rather support racing games if they hit 60fps, regardless of which platform.

it's never bad for people to expect more from the superior console (hardware wise.)

Are you confused with people being disappointed with 30fps? my reaction is totally opposite, because I see lot of people being okay with the 30fps for the racing game, that's coming out one year late on the best console.

No I think he's confused (as I am to be honest) that people weren't expecting this game to be 30 fps from the get-go.

It's never been shown at any higher framerate than 30, I don't know why people held onto this hope that it would somehow magically jump to 60 fps.

Xbox 360 is also over 8 years old console. PS4 released last November and costs 4 times more than 360 these days. There's a certain difference there.

I was pointing out that a racing game can still be great at 30fps. Hell, all my fave' racers are.

Sure, 60fps is always ideal. But i'm not going to cry myself to sleep over 30fps.

I hope that all those "so it's going to be a pretty slideshow"-people will stay away from future DRIVECLUB threads now that 30fps is confirmed, but I really doubt it.

60fps on a closed platform is not an achievement, it's a decision. Just deal with it, don't buy the game if you can't and please stay away from future DRIVECLUB threads.

People that think arcade racers don't need 60fps are probably children that never actually played an arcade racer.

Yeah back in the day 60 fps was the standard for arcade racers anything else was sacrilege. That's also why lots of people flipped out over the last Sega Rallye being only 30 fps.

Google image search gives you eye-candy. Game graphics are worthless when they aren't represented at a decent framerate.

A solid 30fps is a decent frame-rate. 60fps would have been great with those visuals, but I'm thinking they couldn't get the game to maintain 60fps well enough and that Evolution read the backlash about the absurd fluctuating frame-rate nonsense with Killzone, Knack, Infamous. A racing game needs a rock solid frame-rate -- whether it's 30fps or 60fps. To hell with frame-rate drops and frame-rates that constantly jump between 30-60fps causing stuttering.

Huge streaming environments with global Illumination and native 1080p comes with the tax.

One can't have bith money and sheeps.

As long as physics and rendering engine are separated - and they probably are- it is more than a fine compromise for game such as DriveClub.

What with the cardboard crowds, limited tracks, and severly downgraded graphics from e3 last year ?

So it' bad for people to expect more from superior hardware?

F5 looks great all around for achieving 1080p/60fps, wish people would stop speaking shit about that game

It did, though. The environment views in DriveClub looked way better, but the racing footage looked downgraded from the gifs we were clamouring over last year. It may be a bit better than Forza, but it wasn't as impressive as footage from last year IMO.
Looked downgraded?

Examples? Because it looked like a huge improvement to me.

Are you confused with people being disappointed with 30fps? my reaction is totally opposite, because I see lot of people being okay with the 30fps for the racing game, that's coming out one year late on the best console.

You're always going to have 30 fps games on a console with closed architecture. Prepare your disappointment for PS5 games in advance.

Well that's that then.

I do not think I can ever play another racer at 30 fps.

If there is a demo though I may change my mind.

It's out on PS+ the same day as the main retail release. More limited selection of tracks and cars, but it's about as good of a demo as you can get.

I'm surprised that people are saying that 30 FPS is fine. I can't imagine playing a racer of fighter under 60 FPS. Though I guess if someone never played a racer at 60 FPS they wouldn't know what they're missing, it's very possible during last gen after all.
