Driveclub director - 1080p/30FPS is absolutely the best for our game

Its time for [yet another] new variation:

I don't mind this as much as some other dev speak. It basically boils down to: "Hey fellas, we wanted all the pretty lights and textures, and to do that we had to cap it at 30, given the power of the ps4 and our current capabilities in utilizing that power."

That's a whole lot better than, "30fps is better than 60, #dealwithit."

When you are 30 fps and ok graphics you know its ok based on limitations of dev

However, if you don't have limitations and can go to 60 fps but the graphics are just ok, wouldn't a better decision be to up the gfx and reduce fps. Look at forza 5

If fps matters more than gfx then why not keep developing for the last gen until tools are mature enough to make do both eventually

no??

I'm glad they're sticking to their vision. Better that than they compromise it for the sake of some whinging fanboys and end up having it some unlocked mess.

Disappointing there are so many people with closed minds and such limited tastes that they won't go near it on principle.

I would not go saying lose minded and limited because they have a principle. For my the game plays best at 60fps with reaction times and what nto all motion blur and all that other shit does it fool you into thinking it's the same but it's not. Some games I will go along with the 30fps thing but a racing game where I am hitting near 300 km/h? No not going for it it won't feel right to me.

If they locked it at 60 and the graphics were not as good as folks expected people would go like, but we were promised great and amazing graphics, sure 60 fps is great but I wanted a next gen looking game

No matter how much you look at it, damned if you do , damned if you dont

So if you have 2 versions of Driveclub

Reduced lighting and graphics at 60 fps and best graphics at 30 fps, you would chose the 60 fps version ? This is for an arcade game mind you

It's fascinating to watch this thread to see how many people prefer having the game at 30fps for better visuals and yet people wonder why development costs keep rising and games get more expensive to make.

Not the same people, hard to understand I know.

I don't just mean on GAF for starters (so thanks) and yes there are a lot of people who really down trod Forza that are now saying this is okay because they need self justification.

I think Drive Club have made the right choice for the record, I would have much preferred Forza to set their sights at 30fps and improve the environments, but c'est la vie. Choices are made just seems some people have a hard time dealing with that or feel the need to jump all over it like they got stuck in their early teens.

I think somebody else stated that is was also not indicative of the final product. Maybe if they locked it to 30 it would have been?

Anyway I don't want to draw that out, it just baffles me the way some people need to convince themselves one game is poor because of different priorities. Forza is a great game and Drive Club will blow you away with its visuals and I can't wait to hear more about it. Will be interesting to get impressions on it and see if the gameplay also lives up to its aesthetics.

Way too much hate in this industry now with the internet allowing people to voice any little thought that passes through their heads.

I'm alright with 30fps when it comes to this game, because they seem to have nailed the sense of speed:

Definitely, well put. The little touches they seem to be using are definitely alleviating any FPS drop and they are making conscious efforts to work around it.

If the next Gran Turismo isn't 1080p60 I'm going to be extremely disappointed in them.

You may as well start being disappointed from now. What Evolution has just confirmed is what PC gamers have been saying for over a year now, and I'll even admit that I was wrong and they were right. It takes a lot of horsepower to do pretty+1080p+60fps. Current gen boxes, even with 8x more power than previous gen aren't up to snuff. These consoles are gonna peak way earlier than their predecessors. Anyone hoping for a GT7 with visuals better than or even on par with what's in those driveclub videos @ 60fps is gonna be disappointed. We're gonna end up with another GT5/GT6 on our hands, where they strive for visuals while framerate and gameplay become 2nd tier priorities. Maybe some of you will finally understand that PD is mediocre and not the Gods some people make them out to be.

Well, it depends whether it matters enough for the type of game they are making. The game seems to be more of a half way house between arcade and simulation. 60fps is always going to be better, but if the handling is a lot more forgiving than a simulation, will it really matter that much?

Welp project CARS on PC here I come. It seems only PC gamers and devs care about how much fps adds to gameplay.
There are loads of 60fps racing games on consoles. Indeed, PCARS is expected to be 60fps on console. Forza 5 is, and I'm sure GT7 will be too. Can DriveClub justify half the framerate? So far it's comfortably the best looking, but I'm not sure that will be the case in a couple of years.

I also hate how much people abuse the word "optimize". Optimize in this case would be lowering the detail and turning back all the hard work they have done.
That's scaling down as fas as I'm concerned, optimizing is imo what you do when you keep on looking for ways to use the power of the system more efficiently and get the same or better visual impact at the same or higher framerate. Getting almost a full year extra for this is a lot, but maybe not enough, since they can lock it I'm guessing they're well above 30fps though, close to 60 at some parts but closer to 30 at other parts and they went for locked 30fps instead of the infamous uncapped 40-60fps seen in some games. Personally I would've liked to see them delay it longer to reach 60fps, I'd say that since it's a AAA first party title it's better to keep on working on it and come out looking perfect than still not quite reaching there after all this delay. But I'll still play the PS+ version and I'm sure I'll still enjoy it and I know I'll at least drool at the pics posted in the photo thread as with Second Son.

I've always enjoyed 30 FPS Need for Speed, so I'm pretty much indifferent. 60 FPS would be nice, but I'm also perfectly happy with a steady 30.

I wish I had more time. I would love to make note of everyone in this thread claiming they will not touch the game now, figure out what their PSN ID is thanks to the multiple places they could have shared it over the years here, and see if they really do stick to their word and do not play the game when it is released.
My bet is at least 50% of people saying they will not touch the game now will play the hell out of it, yet complain on the internet and pretend like they hate it just because it is the in thing to do.

so very wrong

I doubt GT will have fully dynamic global illumination. DriveClub doesn't even have adaptive tessellation which was in GT6. Evolution is a very small team compared to PD. GT PS4 will run at 1080p 60 FPS just like FORZA 5

Underwhelming, not that i didn't expect it to be 30 in the end, but of course as a fanatic gamer i was hoping vor 60 with vr support lol.

I honestly don't understand when people say they take eye candy over 60fps.

60 fps is eye candy, everything running smooth is so pleasing to the eye.

Am I the only gamer who possesses a TV with a Intelligent Frame Creation mode (framerate enhancer) that enables to turn a 30fps into a 60fps ?
I don't give a f**k if the game turn at 30fps with gorgeous graphics, 'cause I will play it at a smooth 60pfs at the condition the framerate is locked as I did for KZSF and InfamousSS...
My Panny will fix it...

So how many tracks in the full game will have you stand still on top of a mountain above cloud level with a sped up timelapse?

Impressive engine, but if they halved the framerate to give us non-gameplay gifs like that, what's the point?

But then again, with how many people are happily taking the bait hook, line, and sinker, methinks Evo knows their audience pretty well. Give pretty enough graphics and people won't even care about anything else. Hell, they won't even write posts on their forums of choice anymore, just keep spamming the gifs and assume that's a good enough argument for whatever.

But is DC targetting the same experience as PCars ?

PCars is a racing sim, whereas DC is an arcade racer. I'm actually a bit more in the mood of a racing sim anyway. Hybrids usually don't sit well with me. I enjoy racing games better when they're either balls-to-the-wall pure arcade like F-Zero or do a straight sim like Forza/GT.

They didn't rushy this game.

It looks good, and I wonder how the social stuff is going to pan out. Ofcourse it needs to be crowded so a Plus edition is a good idea.

Is 30fps a bummer? Well, it didn't stop me from liking the PGR sequels. And if DC is going to look as good as promised, I'm probably not complaining.

It really is :) Especially in racing games since you get a better sense of speed and have the track details less destroyed by blur. I actually think Ridge Racer 6/7 and Wipeout HD still look oh so pretty in motion blistering around at high speed, I'd even go as far back as Sumo's Outrun on Xbox. High speed smoothness is the best eye candy! I haven't seen Forza 5 in real life yet because MS ignores us Swedes but when I finally do I'm sure I'll think it looks a lot better than what's shown of it around here, I'm not counting polygons and grass straws when racing at 300kmh.

Sony TV = motionflow
LG TV = truemotion
Philips TV = PixelPlus
Samsung TV = MoviePlus
Panasonic TV = Intelligent frame creation

All of these are framerate enhancer. If a 30fps is rocksteady enough (locked), turn the enhancer on, and you will have a smooth 60fps. No joke inside, My sony Z4500 200hz did this, and now my new Panny ST60. I actually play KZSF and InfamousSS (newly 30fps locked) at 60fps.

With input polling still at 30fps. The PS4 doesn't even know the extra frames are there, the TV is keeping that to itself.

What the flying fuck did I just read? There is an actual human being in the world that plays video games like this.

I think I need to go lay down.

You went to all this effort to find the name for each manufacturer, and yet you completely misunderstood what people are telling you. This stuff adds a ton of lag to the image while processing it.
