Can't be quoted enough

Guys, guys, all those recent leaks are all an elaborate plot from GAF to avoid its servers to be melted on E3.

/s

I wonder if this will make it this year, how long has the rumors been around for? It feels like it's been forever since I heard a demon's souls 2 in the making

After staring at these pictures for the past hour or so.. This one in particular sticks out to me...

This red magic looking trail on the character. Maybe the main character has some sort of phasing/teleporting/dodging ability? Purely speculation ofcourse, but it would make sense for it to be artifacting with something moving at a high speed.

The red magic looking stuff is also on another picture where the character is dodging an attack:

Notice that the blood splatter is a much different color than this bright red effect on the characters movement..

I thought it was just blood.

It's crazy how rare and exciting that idea is today. Gah. Hope JP devs hop on current gen a little faster in the future.

Most don't have any reason to unless the game is "for export" and/or part of a series that's already popular. Consoles are not doing very well in Japan right now and the situation probably won't improve any time soon.

Whoa, you got your mod status back? :)

Could've sworn that you probably lost it when your username was in blue & not in red, as well as your avatar being upside down. Or was that someone else?

I have multiple identities. Most of the moderation staff are versions of me and my alts, but generally not as handsome or funny.

Neogaf would blow up if there was no leak, and instead announced at E3 during the Sony conference.
Can't wait to see the trailer at E3, jumping on the hype train!

So... Sony and From Software get paid for each post made in a thread about their games? I take it that's your business model here since I asked you how this leak is going to turn into more actual cash money.

I think you could stand to talk to some more normal people and a few less dedicated forum posters when forming your opinion about these things. The very fact that you're talking to me about how you're getting "hyped" about a game series you don't care about, that you're not even going to buy, because a thread got posted on an internet forum, makes it clear that you are so far from the typical purchaser as to be completely unrepresentative and, therefore, completely unimportant from a financial standpoint.

If that were true we wouldn't get these leaks on GAF. :P

You really find it hard to understand that people talking about something generates interests and that interests might generate sales? I might not buy it but sure i will talk about it to other people that could find it interesting and push him/her to buy the console and/or game.
Let's talk also of the people who are in doubt of picking one of the next gen consoles and that are interested in the series, they would arrive at the E3 with a totally mindset compared to the scenario where this leak were never occurred.
Seriously it seems way too stupid to me that i have to actually explain the benefits of controlled leaks.

I'd like to think i knew what i was talking about, a controlled leak is more about mindshare, shock and enthusiasm. Profit margin is an afterthought.

There is literally no context in which profit margin is ever an "afterthought" in marketing. All corporate marketing activity exists to sell product.

Mindshare and enthusiasm are concepts that exist as proxies for purchase intent or for word-of-mouth. When you have mindshare, people think of your product first before other competitors. When you have enthusiasm, people go out of their way to buy your product. It's certainly important to build these, because building them increases sales. But looking at this thread as evidence of the power of leaks totally misunderstands the causal relationship here.

People aren't hyped in this thread because of this news or these screenshots (neither of which is either super surprising or impressive in a vacuum); they're hyped because From Software already built mindshare and enthusiasm through their previous products. You'd see basically the exact same thread in response to a tweet that was just the text of the subject line. This leak isn't adding to the brand value here, it's just whipping up existing fans (the people who are easiest to whip up) at the cost of screwing up their carefully-planned general-audience media rollout.

If you want to believe that the whole nktrnl debacle was not a controlled leak, fair enough, but I take issue with trying to high horse and claim people who disagree with your belief "don't know what they're talking about".

It's not a question of belief. It was 100%, unambiguously confirmed that ntkrnl was not a controlled leak. There was no actual question about this except in the minds of people who put their own initial interpretation over the actual facts on the ground.

You really find it hard to understand that people talking about something generates interests and that interests might generate sales? I might not buy it but sure i will talk about it to other people that could find it interesting and push him/her to buy the console and/or game.

Word of mouth doesn't work by people repeating empty forum hype, it works by people telling their friends about products they've actually used. You, the person who have explicitly said you don't care about the Souls series and will not buy the new game, are worth exactly zero as a vector of word of mouth.

I'm hoping early next year, Feb/March, maybe June if TLG is ready for the earlier window.

I hope it's a feb release, it really feels like the gen is picking up after second son, there are a few releases in may, e3 next month, releases in fall and it probably will keep up the pace into next year

What if this was meant to be unveiled at TGS instead? :o

TGS seem to be dying year after year. The Demon's Souls audience is west especially since Japan slowed down on buying consoles. It'll be nice to get E3 awards I bet, more media, more coverage.

See, this all falls apart when you remember that we represent a tiny portion of the consumer base no matter how big we are "size wise" and the exact same (or slightly better) result would be achieved by doing a big flashy trailer at E3 without spoiling it ahead of time and keeping the novelty of the name fresher in people's minds before launch.

Also, your "given the controlled nature of these leaks" implies that you somehow have a concrete, definitive example of a compressed blurry screenshot being deliberately leaked by a company.
The what you call "tiny portion of the consumer base" is what might sparks general interest to the masses especially with niche titles like the Souls series, i consider you a very intelligent fellow and i think you are no stranger to the concept that the first people that buys a product are the enthusiast then the first mass of people then later mass etc. etc.

Given the lack of proof for this whole debacle that part of the post was intended to be read as a kind of indirect proof.

It'll be called Beast's Blood guys. You're no longer hollow, come on. Suck dat blood.

However, Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver would like a word with me.
