The fog gate is rather iconic now when it comes to the Souls series. I couldn't see them calling it anything other than ____ Souls. The name "Beast's Souls" does sound a little strange, but so did "Demons' Souls" when it came out. Here's hoping this isn't just some massive, elaborate troll.

I'm not saying it will be called Demon Souls 2 but it wouldn't shock me.

Kinda, it's more like Cap'n'Hands from LOADED, so I'll post again:

My god at how big this topic is. Not surprised though, the Souls brand has really built a name for itself amongst the hardcore last gen.

IT pretty much hits all the major hot points. You got Sony continuing to get great gamer cred. You have a developer/brand in Souls that has broken over to the mainstream, but still has plenty of cache with the hardcore, and sprinkle on top of that some good fashioned console/PC wars and it's like the GAF perfect storm.

It looks like the souls games will become an annual franchise alternating between Sony's and FROM. I'm sort of even more glad I didn't pick up DSII, I really don't want to tire myself of this gameplay style before this game comes out

no, he did post in the unreal tournament thread though. I guess he isnt happy with the leak

No doubt he isn't happy. This definitely was one of the big games Sony had for E3. Hope they can keep everything else under wraps. Same goes for Nintendo and Microsoft, I want the rest of the Megatons to be surprises for me.

Welp, time to buy a PS4

Good thing I've been padding my PS account download list with PS+ freebies. TLOU PS4 will be my first time playing it too.

I hope this game just isn't as co-op PVP centric as Dark Souls and mainly Dark Souls 2 is. I feel much like in a myriad of different arts, that those are the special moments in the game, that shouldn't be over-indulged, or at least need to be earned.

Like... PVP/online coop is a chocolate chip in a cookie.

That cookie would cease to be as interesting if it lacked all the chewy slightly salted vanilla dough, it'd be a bunch of melted chocolate chips all binded together - where without the salted dough, you can't tell how sweet the chocolate chips are, or that the chocolate is even special at all.

It's not a question of belief. It was 100%, unambiguously confirmed that ntkrnl was not a controlled leak. There was no actual question about this except in the minds of people who put their own initial interpretation over the actual facts on the ground.

Wait, what? What do you mean? I remember that thread when he came around (and the few days after) being pretty lively. It was always assumed it was controlled, but there was no proof it wasn't. We had 100% certainty it wasn't a controlled one?

Sorry if this is Off-topic, but It really struck out to me.

Or maybe he's afraid of losing his job?Which totally makes sense.Because if this wasn't a fake leak (which probably it wasn't) then Sony must now be searching pretty much everywhere to find clues for the source of the leak.

Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if this were a controlled leak, Sony wants something to keep people excited about the PS4 until E3. A few images is a perfect way to build up anticipation for the full trailer at E3. While it would have been great to have it be a surprise at their press conference, would anyone really be too surprised that it came about? At this point, it is defintely going to serve its purpose of getting people talking about the PS4 for the next month.

Demonite probably did what he wanted teasing this title, coming back in would be giving more information than he (and Sony) want. Not saying he is a plant or anything, I just think that he is happy giving tidbits of info to Gaf, now that the cats out of the bag he has nothing else to say until E3.

This isn't a controlled leak like an admin said earlier. The series is established, you don't release shitty compressed pics to hype up an existing base. His post was good I will try to find it. Demon was just giving generic hints

These leaks have also been around times when Microsoft had big news. I remember tons of Sony stuff being announced in the lead up to Titanfall.

If it was a controlled leak it would have made better sense to show the screenshots earlier than just one month before E3.

Some really early basic guns could fit the series really well, I think.

Like revolvers, flintlock pistols, muskets, and lever-action shotguns. Imagine being able to pour gold pine resin on a pistol and have it shoot out electrically enchanted rounds.

Please keep assault rifles and that kind of shit out tho.

Why would he be unhappy?

Demonite often posts little hints and whatnot about the future software that Sony are involved in, it's a pretty risky thing to do without ruffling someone's feathers.
I'm sure he has a certain degree of freedom with what he can say, but when something like this leaks (with images, no less) and is linked back to the various hints he has dropped in the past several months, with people quoting him to support this leak, it could reflect badly on him. Certainly, if we didn't have Demonite's hints, then a lot more people would be sceptical of this leak.

I see your point..kinda sucks for Sony then, this was probably an important piece of their E3 plans (especially to garner excitement amongst the hardcore). Ah well, even if they don't "win" E3 because they lost this "megaton" they still have the game coming exclusively so they win in the long run :)

Except... that's not actually how this works? Every single person who's paying attention to this right now is already a fan of the series -- in other words, a person whose anticipation cannot, by definition, go up all that far. These are people you can either stun with a surprise announcement at E3 -- thereby ensuring an outpouring of enthusiasm from the existing fanbase at the exact time that potential new buyers are discovering it via media coverage -- or build up anticipation more delicately with an ARG-style teasing campaign, ensuring that fans build up the E3 conference in advance.

No game company ever, in the history of the industry, has decided the best way to reveal its hot new title is to release ugly, blurry, awkwardly-framed off-screen shots of their game on a message board, because that makes their game look bad.

"OMG it's a controlled leak" is something posters on GAF say because they really want to participate in a rumor-news thread and sound like they have something smart to say. In reality, controlled leaks are quite easy to pick out, and most of the time when we have one nobody feels the need to say so because it's already pretty obvious that a company-directed teasing campaign is happening.
