Gaffers love Souls games, who knew? This thread is now the 25th largest in terms of viewcount, having more views than most OT (sans D3, Titanfall and Infamous) and only surpassed by threads that have been around for more than a year.

Yeah the first game was terribly optimised. The second game runs so much better it's not even funny. 30 fps with heaps of drops vs 60 fps pretty much constant on the exact same PC.
People act like the worst but that's ridiculous, even when you're trying to use the standard of basic PC features. We can only wish the worst ports settled for a little above parity.
May count as one of the most mediocre though, being neither worse OR better than the other versions by default outside of defucking Blighttown.
I don't see it anywhere on the front page of Gamespot either...I just checked randomly a few minutes ago.
Beast's Seoul - Co-developed with a Korean dev, the setting is actually a post apocalyptic South Korea.
So it's set in North Korea then?
Maybe announcement is far closer than we'd been suspecting. Or some want to try and contact Sony first or whatever. It seems games media know something and are not allowed to say anything, usually games media are quick to jump on rumours (such as new Nintendo console rumour form IGN), but in this case no ones made a fuss, I can't even find anything on this on Kotaku.
Souls of the Beast: it's like King's Field with shotguns
Not surprising really, it is a megaton.
From/Sony co-developed exclusive PS4 Souls game.
(this series being one of the most praised on these boards)
I think people were just joking there. That seems to be something you do with a series you're not sure you can hook people on or a whole new game, when you KNOW plenty of people will throw down $60+ on the game you may as well just ask for that money straight out.Oh god.
It never crossed my mind that this might be Free 2 Play.
Surely SCEJ wouldnt be that daft?
I thought it was plausible, but unlikely though I think we had some teasing there. However there was the wrinkle that Miyazaki was actively kept off of Dark Souls II outside of supervising, and his current activity was unknown so that could've been anything, and almost certainly was going to be worth hearing about whether it was a new take on Armored Core or another Souls-style game.I honestly thought people hoping for a Sony/From Souls PS4 exclusive was pure wishful thinking. Pretty glad if I'm proved wrong.
Hope it's real
Please be real.

OK, I have to ask...port begging?[Port begging = ban]
The King Field games are all fairly slow and clunky to play compared to Demon's/Dark Souls. The Shadow Tower games (Shadow Tower Abyss in particular) are closer in design to the Souls series than anything else, although like King's Field they are also in first person viewpoint.I think some are faster than others? I just know KF4 looks painfully slow in videos.
Where did you get this from? There is a fog gate in one of the pics...
OK, I have to ask...port begging?
I linked to an example from earlier in the thread. It's general complaining that the game isn't on your platform of choice.OK, I have to ask...port begging?
Funny enough that could well be a mainstream move that's actually going back to their roots. I'd like to think it's worth trying again on the side though, stuff like Elder Scrolls exploded and we really don't get many first person games of the likes of King's Field/Shadow Tower, would be nice to something with more modern controls while still retaining what made those compelling in the first place. The King Field games are all fairly slow and clunky to play compared to Demon's/Dark Souls. I don't think From Software will go back to those series though. The third person viewpoint design of the Souls series has worked out really well for them and I can only imagine the outcry from fans if they went back to a fps perspective again as interesting as it would be to see them try.
Demons's souls didn't have levels like Blight town where you had a constant 20-25ish framerate but it did have severe framedrops to 15 fps or lower. Especially when destroying objects while fighting enemies. That is a bit of exaggeration isn't it. I don't remember have issues with the game dropping an incredible amount of frames compared to Blight town.
Dark Souls was 'some spin-off' of Demon's Souls.don't know, it does look horror/fantasy-like but somehow different,
It anything, I think this is some spin-off.
that and the fact that it has "Project Beast" as a tentative name instead of coming upfront and say "projekt souls nextgen" or something.,
it seems like people want to relate it to the souls games no matter what, even coming up with names for it like "Beast souls" and "Souls of the beast"
according to what we have, this is a PS4 co-vedeloped exclusive. As such, there is no way in hell.this is the direct follow-up to any of souls game, as that will remain multi-plat.
I don't think this is Dark Souls 3 or Demon Souls 2.

Well, Dark Souls was tentatively named Project Dark initially, so that doesn't mean much really.that and the fact that it has "Project Beast" as a tentative name instead of coming upfront and say "projekt souls nextgen" or something.,
Dark Souls was codenamed Project Dark. Also From didn't even want to have a word "Souls" in the Dark Souls titledon't know, it does look horror/fantasy-like but somehow different,

I hope Michael Chang Ting Yu works in this one btw, his absence was noticeable in DS2.
And blow their load before E3?
Would you like to go play the King's Field games again?
Figures they couldn't get Dark Lord while King gets Candy, but honestly it's probably better neither got them anyway. Though I imagine that would've flavored Dark Souls II very differently.Dark Souls was codenamed Project Dark. Also From didn't even want to have a word "Souls" in the Dark Souls title

If this is true, Sony have a huge game. To a lot of hardcore gamers the Soul's series is their favorite games of last gen, it's crazy how MS let that slip from them. This game has the potential to get people to choose a PS4 over a Xbox One, hell I think it's more important than TitanFall ever was. A confirmation of this game at E3, a long with Ther Order and Uncharted 4 is enough for Sony to win this years E3.
It's not people wanting to to be a Souls related title. It clearly is. The leaked images tell that tale all by themselves. No need to fantasize. If you can't see it in the images then I don't know what to say.
Well, Dark Souls was tentatively named Project Dark initially, so that doesn't mean much really.
The game is very obviously related to the Souls series gameplay wise, judging by the screens, and I guess that's what people mean by calling it a Souls game. Whether it's named Dark Souls 3, Demon's Souls 2 or whatever else is actually totally irrelevant outside of lore implications. I suppose the best way to go about this would be starting a new separate series, likely keeping the Souls suffix, but then again Sony owns the Demon's Souls IP so yeah.

This will be HUGE for Sony, is there anything concrete or is it just rumored to be exclusive ?
I don't think the exclusivity alone was enough to drive those pages, it's just that many of us really really like Souls games. I mean yeah, there's definitely ramifications and a significant number of posts would've been on that, but this would've probably blown up as a Bandai Namco published multiplat game anyway.ok I stand corrected but still, if this is in any way the "next" souls game and it's co-developed by sony japan and it's exclusive then.... WHAT THE FUCK, megaton right there...that's one major blow to microsoft, this is basically some "GTA/Final Fantasy going exclusive" stuff of epic proportions.
which would explain the 90 pages when we think about it
