PlayStation Network Thread (Vita/PS3/PS4) | May 2014

This is horrible. I had no idea it was releasing so soon. Thinking about it, does the Vita ever have any commercials? The last one I remember seeing was Tearaway.
SCEA has a history of releasing games (both PS3 and Vita) without many people knowing they were being released so soon. I wonder what their sales expectations for those games were, especially since SSD is digital-only.

I remember seeing one or two Vita commercials on ESPN last year but nothing since.

Ghosts is depressing me. It's reminding me how good the multiplayer in Killzone Mercenary is, but how fucking lame it is that the online doesn't work for more than a minute in that game without kicking me.
Did you pick up the botzone DLC? It's kind of lame to pay for it, but $2.50 for offline play is a pittance and it is really, really good. I'm a super-casual FPS fan and KZ Mercenary is honestly the most fun I've had with a shootbanger since COD4. Warzone is great since I love darting around to hack while others are just taking each other out.

I'm quickly becoming a Vitabro. It's still in my honeymoon with new hardware phase, but I'm loving finding excuses to play it. I still wish I could have an actual Monster Hunter for it (I might pick up Toukiden on sale down the road, but I still have MH3U on 3DS to finish and I can't Bring myself to go back to older Monster Hunter titles), but otherwise my eastern gaming tastes are gorging on the library. Picked up Y's solely on GAF's recommendation and 90 minutes in it's not disappointed yet.

Is this where someone posts that MH4 vs. Vita's entire software library sales graph again?
Further proving my point. Everyone knows mh and Nintendo stuff sells. Do those people buy a lot of games outside of that? Not at all. I'm talking about stuff that isn't that. The mid to low tier developers. There's a reason the vita and ps3 has more upcoming games than any other platform.

Ys Memories of Celceta is awesome, cant believe how much fun i had with it. I love the way the combat is so fluid, and music is really good too.

I just finished P4G for the first time, and wow, what a game. 55 hours and that's with the standard ending, I don't even want to think how much I missed, but I loved the way the stats, social links, books and part time jobs all inter-link. The cast was great too, at the point the game finished I felt that I'd really miss them and the main characters uncle and cousin. The only exception being Teddy, as I've never really understand the appeal behind the comedic pervert. The fanservice got a bit much at times with everyone constantly obsessing over what the girls were wearing, but on the whole the characters were really interesting, I think Kanji and Chie were my faves. Anyway, thanks for the recommendations vitagaf.

The only problem is I'm now looking at Demon Gaze, Etrian Odyssey MG and P3P wondering what to play next, I think I'll get stuck into Dragon's Crown or Muramasa as a nice change of pace before tackling another epic dungeon crawl!

Glad you enjoyed P4G. But as you mentioned, you are still missing A LOT (extra story, more amazing bosses and the real ending, which is really cool). I recommend that if you don't feel like playing further, don't forget to keep your save file so you can get back to it later on.

Before I thought SSD was releasing on the 20th or 30th....

Anyways game is still being marketed since they did a 12 hour stream of the Alice temple of evil.

I thought Delta was coming out at the end of last month only to find out then that it's in a couple of weeks. It's a shame that the game's destined to sell horribly but at least it's coming over. Hopefully the digital price isn't too steep, I'll go no higher than 40 AUD

Oh Japan.
Only a couple of hours into Muramasa Rebirth and it is a stunner. Looks amazing and plays like a dream, I like my Vita more and more so many great games and most have come from PS+ haven't even started Everbody's Golf yet and that game is meant to be pretty good.
Count me in for the "Murumasa is awesome" group. Also only a couple hours in, but it is gorgeous. After putting all the time into Dragon's Crown, everything feels perfectly natural. My jaw dropped when I saw that map, I can't wait to get through this game. Perfect timing, too, as I was starting to feel a bit stagnant on the games I have currently on my Vita. Yea sure I have many unfinished games (mainly indies, with one or two native Vita titles), but when I could game, none of them really called out to me as much. Murumasa's call is now beaming straight to my brain. And I love it. Almost makes me wish I bought the retail cart, so I could see that beatiful box on my shelf near Dragon's Crown. Perhaps during a sale..
Glad to see you both are enjoying it! It really was a hidden gem for me, I came in with low expectations and got one of my favorite action games in years.
Konami - Still spamming Musou everywhere inc. Vita. And actually got an exclusive for Vita (Toukiden).

On a serious note, I'd actually be happy if Sega delays PS Nova to 2015 and actually makes it really good and not just an "offline PSO2". :/
I'm assuming you meant Capcom Tecmo Koei there, they've been great Vita supporters.

I still get the feeling it's a 2015 title or was from the start, we've heard nothing of it since its announcement. I have faith that Tri-Ace will make a good original Phantasy Star title out of it.

If even you didn't know what SSD's release date was, the game has no hope of selling well.

HA! I thought the game did decently since it was at 70k at NPD and the only title above it was Killzone: merc with 100k. Anyways this is not my problem I just assumed the PS blog would at least mention before once before it releases.

The blog briefly mentioned the release date in the original announcement post, but it was easy to miss. It would be nice if they release a demo on Tuesday to remind people that SSD is coming soon.

They will mention it...in The Drop the week it comes out :p.

In a week and a half too. SCEA is sending its games to die.

It's a Japanese game. When was the last time SCEA actually pushed a Japanese game? They even sent GT6 to die and that is SCE's largest IP.

This is horrible. I had no idea it was releasing so soon. Thinking about it, does the Vita ever have any commercials? The last one I remember seeing was Tearaway.

I haven't seen a Vita ad on TV since 2012. Given SCEA uploads all of their TV ads onto Youtube and there hasn't been a Vita specific one since 2012 that means their last TV ad is almost a year and a half old.

Further proving my point. Everyone knows mh and Nintendo stuff sells. Do those people buy a lot of games outside of that? Not at all. I'm talking about stuff that isn't that. The mid to low tier developers. There's a reason the vita and ps3 has more upcoming games than any other platform.

Oh please Takao! I thought that at this point even stones would know that Nintendo, Capcom, Square, Level 5 and few others are the only ones that really sell well on Nintendo platforms, most of the others bomb.

Let's stop this myth with a comparison of highest sellers between a few publishers. For the sake of fairness, I won't include any same day multiplatform titles/late ports that aren't shared been Vita and 3DS.

The only time Vita consistently sells software better than 3DS is when the games are aimed at otaku. Given the sales of Sword Art Online, Vita clearly needs more than that to push hardware. The mainstream software comes from the big software houses like Square Enix, Level-5, etc.

That's not what i said, i haven't said that games sell better in absolute on Vita, but that only certain publishers make big numbers on Nintendo.
There are 15.463.596 3ds vs 2.849.931, this means that there are 7 3ds for each Vita but as you can see most of the numbers are really close, sometimes Vita's numbers are better. One that doesn't know sales looking at those numbers would expect the two consoles to have a similar userbase...
And as is possible to see in your numbers only Capcom, Square, Level 5 made very big numbers on the 3ds, so i say you proved my points :P

Yeah, ill be doing a second playthrough in a year or so to catch all that, i think!

Im really hoping for an EU release of Persona Q so i can reunite my dream team of MC, Yuriko, Chie and Kanji for a few more dungeons. Kanji just made the game for me- every time an enemy was looking the other way when he hits it over the back of the head with a chair, i just cracked up! Also I love the special move where a cloud of dust goes up and they all pile in- reminds me of the UK kids comics like the Beano. Kanji's quote of 'i live for this part!' Is also just so full of confidence and enthusiasm that he became a party favourite very quickly. Also, Yuriko upon helping people get up with 'come on, up you go' is quite well observed in its understated maternal weariness. More rpg casts with a bit of heart like that, please.

Still, on to Dragon's Crown, I've been looking forward to that for a while, it seems quite well suited to the Vita.

Excellent compiled list you got there Takao! I'm surprised you actually needed to make one, or that such a "myth" even existed.

I couldn't agree with you more. Kanji was great, I loved his character. The voice cast in Persona 3 and 4 are stellar, they do an amazing job of conveying real emotion. With the amount of spoken dialouge, it's an itegral part of the game that they nailed. The voice work actually helped me completely change my opinion of a character. Spoiler tag incoming, no real spoilers, but it's there for those who wish to skip it. In Persona 3, I found Junpei
(one of the first characters you meet, for those who haven't played it) to me annoying as hell. Clumsy and oafish. Once I got in to it more though, I loved everything he said. I can hear one line clear as day right now, right before an all out attack: "All RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIiiiiight!!!" Simple line, sure, but it was how he said it. I smiled every time, becausehe just sounded so full of joy, but more than that. Confidence, excitement, happiness, I dunno, but I loved it, and he quickly rose to the top
to be one of my favorites.

It plays like a dream on the Vita, complete with classic old school slowdown, but I love that sort of thing in these games :D The touch screen implementation is perfect, almost like how the game was meant to be played.

Uooo, Zero Evo is on sale for a month on JPSN again. I guess with the budget version of Sen already coming out there's no chance for a physical budget version of Zero Evo. Might as well bite (ヽ´ω`)

???

I only listed those because it's their best seller on the platform in general. You'll notice I do series comparisons when there's an opportunity to do so. I didn't bring up Miku F2nd vs. Mirai 2 and the various Muso games because of them being PSV/PS3 games competing against 3DS exclusives. I tossed out that rule for the Capcom fighters since they all were late.

so, rayman legends worth 12 euros if I'm not a huge fan of plattformers, but love the art style? heard horrible things about the murphy levels

Sadly the game has levels that require the use of the Touch screen, which IMO weren't needed.
Rayman Legends, non the less, was my GotY 2013 contender, so if you can get it on PC or PS3/Console, do so, it's freakin' fun and awesome.

I couldn't bring myself to get the final sword. I just can't stand running through the entire game world. It takes forever.
So far, the traversal from one point to another is my main problem with the game. It certainly can take a while, depending on where you are going, when all I want to be doing is slicing and dicing..

Welcome! I think it took me about a month to get activated. Think of it as a form of hazing :P

A month! It took me four! Though it did let me lurk for a long time and better understand what was going on. Thank god the flash sale doesn't have anything I want, my wallet already hurts from the golden week sale.

Speaking of hurt wallets, I finally got a change to hold a Vita 2000 recently and now I want one so badly. I would miss the hell out of the OLED screen, but it was so comfortable! Plus my R button is starting to get iffy from playing Spelunky so much.

How frequently have the Atelier games gone on sale? I just booted Totori up for a couple minutes and I've officially played enough to know that I'll probably end up snagging Meruru up. I'm not just sure whether to pick it up now and stack it atop my enormous vita backlog or sit it out and wait for a deeper sale.

Ive already spent so much on this damned sale I'm inclined to wait it out. That and Delta and Drakengard come out this month. Hell...

Atelier Totori+ went on sale once before Meruru+ came out and this is the first time Meruru+ has been on sale

Craaaaaap. That exactly what I didn't want to hear.

I was in the same boat. Played enough Totori to know I would eventually want Meruru, so I bit the bullet and bought it now. Also when someone mentioned the phrase "Totori as a teacher" I was instantly sold on Meruru.

Craaaaaap. That exactly what I didn't want to hear.

Yeah I've only played like 3 hours of Totori so far but I decided to get Meruru. Although I got Totori during the last sale and didn't really start playing it until now so dropping $40 doesn't sting that much since it was over a long period of time :P

Got Persona 4 yesterday (alongside a few other games) but just started playing it today....now, five hours later, I finally put the game down for a bit XD.

The bright visuals, the many difficulty options, the enjoyable characters (really impressed with how original some of them are; never expected to have a legit police officer be the main characters parental figure or how different the girl characters are...they could have been so stereo-typical that is the case with many RPG's), and smart gameplay structure (the developers almost know the main combat isn't the star, as I just started getting to that part 4 hours in).

Gaf was right, this is a Vita must own! Did not expect to enjoy this as much as I am :).

Funny thing is even though the combat isn't the main point as you already said it's still one of the more polished battle systems imo.

P4G is just all around a great game, sooo much stuff to do and it never really gets boring, have fun playing! :)

Finally got to play the Magical Beat demo, and it's completely rad.
Makes me think on keeping my oled instead of selling it, just to have my jp acc handy (so I can invest on it), hmm.

I'm not paying for bots. I don't care how cheap it is. Bots should be free. I could get a game on sale for that price. And even if they were free I can't see myself playing it for long to be honest. AI is never the same as real people.

But the good news is that I managed to have a full match of warzone today without a connection error so that was pretty cool. I then unfortunately got kicked 2 minutes in to the next match. But yeah, definitely way better than COD Ghosts. Man I wish the multiplayer would run as well as it used to. It's so fun.

I think the only way P4G could be any better for me was an option to use Japanese voice actors instead of English. I got used to them, but I didn't love some of the english vocal performances. Now, I looked for this option for a while, but if I somehow missed it and there is a way, VitaGAF please enlighten me!

The best thing about P4G and what makes me want to play is weirdly how fucking beautiful the menus are
Seriously, the first time I arrived on the title screen I was like "wow wtf".

I guess the general use of colors is part of good feeling I have playing this game. Music too, of course.
Presentation and general feeling prevent me from putting it down, like P3 et P3P did.

It counterbalances nicely the things annoying me in persona games.

[3DS] Cave Story 3D - 7,497

smh @ only 8,000 3DS owners having good taste

it's so not the way it should be that the imbalance in platform success created a scenario where SFIV 3D and MGS3 3D outsell MGS HD & both SFxT/MvsC3... i can only guess what numbers were like back then, but it'd be like if SF Alpha on SNES had outsold SF Alpha on Saturn, and Capcom concluded that fighting game ports to Saturn were a waste of time and money

Nope no Japanese voices for you.

Atlus very rarely include a dual-audio option and one time they did resulted in the infamous region-locked P4A.

Totally forgot about Drakengard 3...wait is the only way to get a retail ver. is through S-E? I don't want any of the Special edition dunk, just the base game.
