"Space Souls" doesn't mean astronauts and rocket ships on the moon though, it isn't Destiny - it means A.I. run dystopian cybernetic apocalypse, which has bucketloads of synchronicity with Souls Series.

Can I get the source of these pics? I'm assuming it's some Manga.

You might as well add my avatar to the hype train. I'm a Day One buyer for a new Souls game. I figure the Macho Man will add a certain level of humor to it.

I just read blame! 1.

So is basically what's going on is a man transporting a child and being attacked by crazy cyborg people?

What if Project Beast is actually just Dark Souls 3 which they started early because PS4/Xbone have longer dev cycles? I mean the hype here comes from the original director being present, so as long as he stayed the hype train would still be going. They might not just reveal the "Dark Souls 3" name but tease it as Project Beasts to avoid brand fatigue so soon after Dark Souls 2 releases.

Obviously opinions, but Blame is an acquired taste.

Berserk is freaking awesome.

Yeah, I agree. As a dish Blame! looks much better than it tastes but it does look pretty freaking delicious - well metaphorically - whereas Berserk is Michelin 3 stars "special journey" quality.

It's not.

Sony isn't going to publish a third Dark Souls, especially when they don't own the rights to the IP and Miyazaki has said he's moved on from directing the Dark Souls series

This new game already sounds like it's going to be called: Beast Souls

Did you enjoy the lack of narration and using the art itself to communicate the story? Also the grey matter of avoiding existentialism banter that is omnipresence in Cyber Punk? Nihei has a very distinguishable artstyle for his works. In Blame!, pictures do all the talking and the readers are left to connect the details.

Pretty sure that Sony is helping make this, and as far as I know they only put out games if they own the ip. This is why they can't buy exclusives quite like MS can.

Biomega has a talking bear.

Don't want to derail here, just wanted to say that talking bears-- particularly animatronic ones (e.g. robot animals from Chuck-e-Cheese, Showbiz Pizza, Disney attractions, etc..) have always creeped me the fuck out. Device 6 (a fantastic iOS game from Simogo) has some talking bears in it and while not animatronic, were creepy as hell.

Back on topic, I really enjoyed listening to ENB and Vaati geeking out over the possibilities of a Miyazaki-helmed successor to DeS, spiritual or not. The Souls fanbase is one of the more dedicated, less insufferable out there (at least, to me) and I always appreciate the passion with which they approach the games and their lore.

I know that, but is it confirmed that Project Beasts is in fact a Sony exclusive title? So far that aspect of the leak seems like rumours led on by cryptic insider leaks. That Miyazaki quote is telling though. I'm more convinced it's not Dark Souls 3 but just wondered if it might be possible.

So I'm wondering what happens to this team after Beast Souls? I'm pretty sure Dark Souls 3 is coming given it's success and they already have two teams capable of making the games. With the Buyout I can't see this game getting another version unless Sony makes it themselves or steals away some of From soft's dev team(please no). Would be nice if the darksouls 2 team starts prelim work on 3 and Miyazaki and crew join them to finish it up after the Beastsouls work is done.

I was lead to believe Kadokowa was a rival publisher in Japan. Buying 80% of From Software's shares I doubt they would want the dev team to collaborate with Sony on another title. But i guess we will wait and see.

in 2007 kadokawa and namco entered a business partnership and cross bought each others stock. at the same time in 2007 namco and sony entered a partnership too. I'd imagine they'll all get along just fine

Some of it looked really good, but some looked really muddled. I am on a tablet though, might see how it looks on a larger screen. I did like the way it told it's story though, just a little jarring to start.

I thought the leaker specified it was From Software x Sony's Japan Studio? The claim of Japan Studio's involvement has been there from the getgo, and I seem to recall reading that the Japan Studio logo appeared before From Software's in the footage, though I could be wrong on that.

And that claim fits perfectly with the leaks and teases by verendus and demonite.

Ahh okay, the original leaker's quote saying Japan Studio is involved isn't in the OP but I must assume it's somewhere.

It isn't confirmed. But all signs are pointing to yes, it is indeed a Sony exclusive title.

Sony insiders have literally been using the codename in reference to a Demon's Souls spiritual successor for more than a year. We've heard about a From Software/SCEJ collaboration from those insiders for a while.

Dark Souls 3 will not happen for years and Miyazaki will most likely not be involved in a lead role.

I don't know if I want Just Another Souls Game. I know that the general consensus among fans of most series is "exactly the same as the last game, but more!" but I think that kind of thinking is incredibly detrimental to what made the Souls games good. The best moments playing Demons Souls were in the first three or four stages of the game, struggling come to terms with what the game was asking of you. Then, eventually you reach an equilibrium point where you start to have confidence in your ability to play the game. You still die, and you still have fun, but it's not the same kind of struggle.

That feeling went away pretty quickly in Dark Souls, and it basically wasn't there at all in Dark Souls 2. So, if Beast Souls is more of the same I'm going to be disappointed.

Well, it looks like we've got the addition of guns, a reasonably large shift in the setting/atmosphere, and the possibility that they won't even use the Souls name, so it doesn't seem to be heading in the exact same direction.

And yeah, the general loop of exploration and semi-open-ended challenges where the player struggles and eventually succeeds is the only thing they really need to keep. All the other details can be reworked in a variety of ways.

Now I want a Dark Souls in space. Or maybe I want another System Shock. Argh, I don't know anymore.

I wonder if this game will have the same "casualisation" fears as Dark Souls 2 did. If it's a new IP, that would of course imply it can have new rules.

I think a decent compromise might be to have the main "trunk" with a somewhat gentle difficulty curve, but add lots of "branches" that are tense and fiendishly designed as anything else in the series. Make the side levels optional for just finishing the game but necessary to get the true/good/extended ending, so the long-time fans will go for them right away and newcomers will only play as many as they're comfortable with.

Sony made the right choice throwing money at FromSoft instead of a Platinum game. FromSoft Soul games actually sell especially now that's it's exploded in popularity. Platinum games as usual would bomb unless there's a strong IP behind it. MS and Nintendo may have money hated exclusive games from Platinum but will it move consoles? lol no.

GG Sony.

It means Beksinski meets Mobius meets Geiger. Well, it does to me, anyway.

I could see this working. And even just the idea of a tree-like designed world suit From.

Souls playthroughs usually feel half difficult, half easy anyway - the shift happening somewhere in the mid-point where you upgrade your gear enough.

I'm officially boarding the hype train. I started Demon's Souls a couple of days ago and have been playing the crap out of it.

Nothing about what you just said actually has anything to do with space and you can't just say it has "synchronicity" with Souls when the two things essentially have nothing in common. Souls takes place in a fantasy world where people are using steel and magic and everything that comes with that while Cyberpunk is pretty much the polar opposite in terms of tone and atmosphere. There's a huge difference between a sci fi game that's somewhat inspired by souls and this weird vague idea of "space souls" people keep talking about. Where is everyone who should be trying to hype up "Fantasy Halo" and "Renaissance Era Dead Space" under this weird logic people are applying to Souls? You can't just keep throwing random things together, describe a totally different idea explored in a manga and go "See, it's Space Sooouuuls!"

haha, this was their reasoning when they passed on Demon's Souls. Look how that turned out.

If it's possible, iFruit girl would love to be added to the hype train. Ready to suffer and pledge further allegiance to From!

The Maiden in Black, Blighttown and curses be damned praise the sun!
